Unlike humans, animals don’t sunbathe to get a nice golden tan. Oftentimes, they do it out of necessity. One such reason is to maintain their body temperature at a stable level, a process called “thermoregulation.”

To avoid such health issues, the CVMA advises keeping animals indoors or in shaded areas, especially during the hottest parts of the day. This also helps reduce the risk of heatstroke.

Repeat because so many people don't know this. And this is when you get panicked calls from tourists about a field of d**d horses. Horses do this, it is important for their physic and mental health to be able to have deep REM sleep routines, several times per day. They dream (nickering, moving), which is very cute, unless they dream of past horrors (I have two from a shelter). If your horses don't do this, check if they don't feel safe or healthy enough. If your horses cannot do this, create a place where they can.
