40 Examples Of Innovative And Awesome Design Collected By The “Design Therapy” Instagram Account (New Pics)
Aesthetics are a pretty subjective notion. Everyone has their favorite color, patterns, textures and so on. That being said, it’s very easy to find designs that probably needed a bit more time on the drawing board. You have probably run into a billboard or an item from Ikea that makes you wonder what they were thinking!
Fortunately, the ideas below are different. The Instagram account Design Therapy is devoted to showcasing interesting and innovative designs, from kitchen solutions to architecture. It has amassed over 250 thousand followers with ideas that are both engrossing and soothing.
Upvote and comment on your favorites, and if you are still interested in examples of therapeutic design, check out Bored Panda’s other collections of awesome designs here. Or, if you want a bit of contrast, take a look at some examples of bewilderingly terrible design here.

Drone Light Restoration Of Ancient Building
This is Whitby abbey, I live in Whitby, this wasn't done with drones, it was just done by someone "painting" dots on a picture in photoshop or something. Would be cool to see it with actual drones though.
I love Whitby, and cannot wait to visit again. My in-laws aren't far from there
Load More Replies...The use of this tech blows my mind! It's 'LIGH BRIGHT' toys come alive!👍👍♥️♥️
Is this real? It is quite impressive. I have seen some very impressive drone displays as "fireworks" displays but I feel it is extra impressive to make a complicated shape with 100s of coordinated drones ==AND== have that shape lined up perfectly with a building on the ground.
Stone Sculptures By Jon Foreman
Who cares how big it is? It's still beautiful...but I'd also still like to know if it's big enough to hypnotize an elephant.
Load More Replies...OK, I've got to be THAT one... Haven't there been a lot of reports that this sort of thing disturbs native crustaceans and other water/beach dwelling creatures because many use those stones to live under? (I got that lecture from someone a few years ago when I posted something similar)
did not know the lead singer of switchfoot was also an artist like that
Now I want to see of its actually the same Jon Foreman because I can absolutely imagine him doing that.
Load More Replies...Can't wait for someone's crotch-goblin to come along and knock them all over...
As gorgeous as this is, moving stones near water to create sculptures is devastating to that ecosystem. Localities are putting signs up asking people to stop this trend. It erodes the sand/beach/ soil that the stones normally keep in place, impacts filtering, flora and fauna. Please don’t do this. Like glitter (something else I love), it looks beautiful but is actually genuinely destructive.
Geometry Of The Body By Lin Yung Cheng
Man, I can't draw a circle that nice flat on paper! Very lovely and well done.
Humans enjoy being surprised, and clever and interesting designs often provide just that. The sight of an unexpected form, material or function can be truly captivating and bring a smile to one's face. This is why so many people love to collect odd and unique objects, from whimsical sculptures to unusual pieces of furniture.
There is a certain method to our preferences madness. It’s probably not a surprise that symmetry seems naturally pleasing. Researchers Yi Huang, et al. found that our brains enjoy looking at symmetrical patterns more than asymmetrical alternatives. Young children will even stare at symmetrical objects for longer, even though similar, asymmetrical objects generally have more details.
Mysterious Sculpture Designed By Joshua Vermillon
I love when surrealism becomes something concrete, more than an image or a painting.
Really? Too bad... Was hoping for a real sculpture! :-/
Load More Replies...That's actually really cool. I wonder what they made it out of? I hope it lasts outside.
Wonder what the medium is? So gorgeous! I find it very relaxing and mesmerizing!❤️

Frog Accessories
Of all the arguments people have used to try to get me to pierce my ears, this has been the most convincing one.
The artist's Instagram is nina_myway but they're based in Japan and currently don't ship internationally (according to one post international orders will be available again some time in March)!
Load More Replies...We are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting experiences, and clever designs can provide just that. The sight of something truly unique and unlike anything seen before can be invigorating and exciting. Whether it's a piece of architecture, a new product design, or an artistic creation, clever designs can offer a glimpse into the future and inspire us to think differently about the world around us.

Load More Replies...Hand Painted Doormat
Neat! This deserves MUCH more love! It's a painting by Spanish street artist Pejac (https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce01REntiVk/), WELCOME, in Aberdeen, Scotland, positioned outside a building housing many charities. From his Insta: "Created for all those who feel themselves marginalized, foreign and discriminated against, this agglomeration turned into a doormat greets anyone who wishes to be welcomed." He describes it as symbolizing that people are "tired of being stepped over" here (great pics too): https://mymodernmet.com/pejac-welcome-nuart-aberdeen/
I don't get it. Is jt just a painting on the paving stone? If so, it's not really a functional doormat right? I mean those things are meant to absorb mud etc...?
In fact, our brains really crave novelty. While studying the brain's response to a series of images, researchers Nico Bunzeck and Emrah Düzel found that whenever participants would see something unexpected, their body would produce dopamine. Think about that, novelty directly affects the pleasure centers of the brain. So try something new, even if its just a new recipe or lock screen background!
The Cyber Drone Show
There are hardly words to describe that amazing feat of human engineering genius once you've seen it in person. The smell, the Latin inscribed on small obelisks and plaques, and the sounds of cheers and jeers from almost 1950 years ago that you ask yourself over and over again if that's really what you're hearing? or is it just the lull of modern day Romans (literally, people from Rome) coming, going, and living their lives. It is a profound sight to see. I hope when you do get to see it for yourself it'll impress you the way it impressed me.
Load More Replies...Hmm actually that most likely isnt true, they are thinking that the higher side helped support giant tarp shades that were rigged up, along with providing shade itself
Colorful Window
If I had a window like this at home, I would always look forward to going home to enjoy the colors.
As someone who has an obsession with stained glass I really like this.
Load More Replies...Im in 2 minds with this one, I'm not sure if I like it. I like colours but I like clear windows too. It kinda gives me One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest vibes
They have crayola markers that you can use on windows. Apparently they can wipe off, but I don’t have them so use at your own risk.
Load More Replies...“Sharpener” Lighting Designed By Nanako Kume
I used to hide little jars of pencil shavings from my Prismacolor projects around my roommates room. I labeled the jars "Children of the Doomed". He was always puzzled by their appearance, but I never took credit. After a few months the apartment lease was up and we all went our separate ways... This particular friend ended up moving in with my sister, and so the Saga continued. These Children of The Doomed followed my completely baffled friend all throughout our state; on camping trips, at festivals, parties, etc, thanks to me, my sister and two other discreet people. Finally I moved out of state and it all stopped. When I moved back 15 years later I finally told him it was me, but at that point he wasn't mad or anything. Just glad to have an answer... I think I shall send him this lamp for his next birthday
I had a collection of pencil shavings in primary school! I think most people had a phase of painstakingly sharpening pencils to get that perfect frill. I don't know about other schools, but it was practically a currency!
Looks right.... Looks left.... nobody? Really? ok, I'll say it.... NOPE. No. No. No.
Armed with this knowledge, we can consider ways to introduce some design principles into our own lives. For example, we could rearrange their furniture to make the most of their living space, or incorporate more natural light into their home by installing larger windows or using light-reflecting surfaces. Similarly, we could choose furniture, décor, and accessories that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

At how many plusses are you today? (also usable for persons on a diet, but htan backwards)
This is adorable. I think a pregnant woman is one of the most beautiful, radiant human ever.
The optical illusion in this top makes my eyes see the baby moving around
Another possibility is to look for solutions to everyday problems that are both efficient and visually appealing. For example, instead of using a cluttered collection of plastic containers to organize a pantry, someone could use elegant glass jars with labeled lids to create a functional and attractive storage solution. Minimalism might appeal to others, since removing clutter from a space can make it more functional and give it some novelty.
Banyan Tree Roots In Hong Kong
Felt! I trip over flat surfaces so i could only imagine this....
Load More Replies...I am not so sure that that is a design as much as it is just the result of what happens when you plant a tree on top of paved surfaces.

Japanese-Style Platform Bed With White Ash And Hallowed-Out Beach Stone
I would fear for my poor toes. The legs of my current bed are directly in line with the mattress, and still I bang my toes. If the legs/feet of this bed stick out, I'm definitely going to break at least one toe.
sorry to be that guy. "Hollowed". "Hallowed" means blessed or magically endowed. "Hollowed" means "containing a hole".

Two-Story Printed Detached House
This is what we should be doing, recycling all the plastic into houses, solving the problem with plastic waste and pollution AND solving the housing crisis's that are pretty much worldwide at this point.
These printed things are really cool, but what I want to know is what many of these constructs actually cost to make.
I'm really loving the curvaceous design. Not so much the barren and gray aesthetic, but I'm definitely intrigued for the future of this technique.
Yeah, exactly. We have the technology to actually print houses for much less than your average home costs and yet we're not using it everywhere. Makes no sense to me either.

Amangiri Resort Designed By Studio Rick Joy
I do not understand why this place's web site bills it as a luxury resort. It looks like a bomb shelter inside and out and you apparently have to really like the Utah dessert. For $3,400 to over $7,000 USD per night I can have a really good time somewhere else. PERSPECTIVE: A month long trip to the Philippines including airfare, meals, renting a house and everything else - cost me less than ONE NIGHT in their cheapest room. And the stuff I saw was a lot more interesting than dirt and rocks in the distance. I also got to swim in awesome clear blue ocean as well as pools that looked nicer than the one pictured.
Wow, their cheapest room starts at $3,400 USD a night....
Holy cra...! Are the guests paying for something weird like underage sex slaves or eating endangered animals? Cuz I can go sit in the hot dirt for free. I have been to Utah. It was a place to drive through to get to some place else.

Mainly how the tiles are faded, and the whole thing looks like it was painted. Not the best design here, but still nice.

NO! I would see that out of the corner of my eye all day and want to brush it off my arm
Well if you get it and don't like it, that's when you turn it into a dragon !
Load More Replies...The one that "goes" from one person to the other is really cool, until one of them, probably the woman, gets shorter, as most women do as they age, or until either of their skin starts to sag. Once that happens and they stand next to each other to show it off they will have to say, "these lined up when we got them, 10 years ago"
I don't really think this counts as a design. It doesn't take a whole lot of imagination or talent to come up with the idea to draw a basically straight line, however it does take A LOT of both of those qualities to be able to make people think that it's an amazing idea.
More or less the definition of art, good job :) These are not mere straight lines though, not even basically. They're taking anatomical context into account. I love when science and art converge. It has an entirely different effect on the observer as compared to design that is supported by science. Visual/philosophical vs functional inspiration.
Load More Replies...Island Is A Double-Decker Driverless Tram Designed By @pontidesignstudiohk For Hong Kong In The Post-Covid Era
The name Island refers to the innovative design of the interiors, with large circular benches where passengers sit facing outwards.
The exterior design is inspired by Hong Kong buildings with curved curtain walls. Island’s curved windows and domed top draw in light by day and awe-inspiring views by night. The interiors are sleek and comfortable: charcoal gray walls, cushioned seats, wooden floors and trims with natural finish.
Island connects several elements of design and urban life: transportation, landscape and sightseeing, safety and comfort. It represents the forward-thinking spirit of Hong Kong, and redefines public transport for the post-Covid era. Island won the 2020 GIDA Design Award.
I'd rather have a dedicated seat, with an allocated space, than trying to figure out if I should squeese myself between the persons already sitting in those ackward benches.
Yeah. It turns out that the people who usually build busses do actually think about what people who might ride busses want. There is certainly still room for improvement, but not by simply ignoring what already works.
Load More Replies...i like the idea of the seats facing out, instead of forcing strangers to stare at each other
Of all the sci-fi/George Jetson-style futuristic ideas, why are we focusing on driverless transportation? At least work the kinks out before subjecting us to these methods of transport.

Load More Replies...I'm gonna need a handrail right about where she's leaning. Yeah, the super skinny stair part. One margarita too many and I'll be facedown in those palms!
Yeah, and wait until you get old/have arthritis/can't climb steps. Will need a fortune to put in a chairlift (if there's even room) or elevator.
Woman steadies herself w/hand on wall because many architects hate handrails. Then they wonder why thee are greasy stains on the wall.
You wanna step aside to not brush against the palms, you end up with a broken ankle
As someone with an unsteady gait this is mildly terrifying. Gonna have to hard pass on this.

Because we believe that being placed on (self-unaliving) watch should not compromise your shopping experience
Ah, yes, now this looks vaguely familiar... Those padded walls, didn't I hurl myself at them time and time again when those sadistic ba***rds wouldn't let me out and kept telling me that "it was for my own good" and if I would just "calm down" and "stop making such a fuss", they would let me go "eventually'?... Some of these weren't very practical but I still enjoyed seeing them. I suppose they were supposed to be thought provoking, which they were.
Most of these items seem to have been made simply because of the designer's need to show how 'innovative' and 'out there' they are. There seems to be a constant need for designers to prove how different and unique they are, to the point where they go to extremes and lose sight of the final objective. The concepts may be visually pleasing, but the results are highly impractical and definitely not user friendly.
