“What I love most about Autumn are the beautiful colors. I really like it when you’re able to photograph an animal with those colors in the background,” photographer Dick van Duijn told Bored Panda in an in-depth interview, during which he talked about his newest sensational photos, in which squirrels are playing in the water with nuts.

Van Duijn’s pictures capture the unseen beauty of the natural world and his skills in taking photos of animals, especially squirrels, are legendary. Once again, van Duijn is making headlines in newspapers with his amazing new squirrel photo shoots and majestic animal pictures that capture the essence of Autumn.

Photographer Dick van Duijn captured some amazing shots of squirrels

“I took the photos last Monday in a forest in the Netherlands,” van Duijn explained about his fantastic squirrel pictures.

“I waited from sunset till sundown, but I spent a lot more days there to get this perfect shot sharp and in beautiful light and the Autumn colors,” he said about his dedication to capturing the perfect series of photos.

“After my last viral ground squirrel photo, Nikon loaned me some high-end camera gear that made this shot possible (the burst of the Nikon D5),” the photographer explained.

According to him, there isn’t really any grand philosophical idea behind his photos of squirrels.

“I just like to photograph them. They are very photogenic with a high cuddling rate,” he joked.

Naturally, van Duijn takes pictures of other animals besides squirrels as well. However, squirrels can be incredibly difficult to photograph because of how agile they are.

“The photo of the jumping squirrel was definitely the most difficult to capture. Usually, you pre-focus on a certain point and hope the squirrel jumps through this area and you have a sharp photo. But in this case, I took the photo out of hand tracking the jump of the squirrel.”

When Bored Panda asked van Duijn about his photography plans for this Winter, he revealed that he hopes to photograph foxes, as well as more squirrels.

“But my wishlist is big and gets bigger every day. I hope to photograph the newborn grey seal pups in the coming few weeks,” the photographer shared his hopes for the upcoming season. One thing’s for sure—I’m sure that van Duijn’s photos will be breathtaking and I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do next!
