Artist Creates Illustrations Where The Roles Of Humans And Animals Are Reversed, And The Reality Is Thought-Provoking (50 Pics)
Interview With ArtistHumans tend to take their habits for granted. Everything seems self-evident until the perspective shifts. It forces us to reflect on the way we are: humans are not all sunshine and rainbows, as the saying goes. We also have a darker side that we prefer to be swept under the rug.
Barbara Daniels has a calling to reveal these dark things that people do. She shifts the perspective by swapping roles of humans and animals, which in turn raises our awareness of how we behave with other animals, which is brutal and unethical most of the time. There's much room to grow for our species. Her illustrations are a sobering reminder that our society is far from perfect. Though we tend to admire the progress of our own species, we tend to forget that we did it at the price of others.

Just like psycopaths, child abusers and pedophiles, hunters are the worst kind of human beings in existance. How can u take a pic of urself smiling proundly with the corpse u just killed? Not forgeting to mentioning that a lion, a tiger, an elephant, an eagle, any animal, worths countless times more than a single hunter that couldnt even be used as food for animals cause of its toxicity. F**k i hate hunters.
Agreed! Trophy hunters don't come from the bottom of the barrel - they come from beneath the barrel. They are cowards with egos the size of Alaska and hearts the size of electrons.
Load More Replies...Some people are too quick pointing fingers, but I really like your comment. Given the context of this art's concept, I choose to believe your comment was referring to both the human AND the lion. And I like your attitude towards the self-righteous reactionists too. Thank you for being awesome!
Load More Replies...Dont start boiling my marrowbone please. RIP Cecil 🌹
Load More Replies...The only way it is justified is when it is for food. If you can get food without this then it is not justified. The only situation where you can't get proper good without hunting is living off grid.
Barbara shared about her "Dominion over Man" with Bored Panda: "It was an unexpected surprise when this art came into my life. The idea of exploring the relationships between humans and animals first came to me while I was eating chicken wings on holiday in Strasbourg, France. I sketched what the situation might look like if the roles were reversed. The idea resonated with me from that moment on and I began to see the world in a new light. I started to focus on the role reversal concept after moving to Berlin in 2013."
I think it's declawing shown here. Cat claws grow directly from the bone so removing one is pretty much like snipping the end of the finger.
They aren’t cutting the nails only. This is how cats are declawed. They cut off the first knuckle of each digit to declaw.
Load More Replies...declawing cats should be animal abuse. When someone does that, it is basically cutting off parts of their fingers.
Yeah. Cat owners should know how to clip the claws, not remove them. That would just be inhumane.
Load More Replies...Hate me all you want, but if you declaw a cat, then you deserve the same done to you and you are a disgusting piece of human trash. Go ahead and cut off the first knuckle of your fingers because that is exactly what declawing is.
IF you know how bad it is. Which these days is most everyone old enough to pay a vet bill.
Load More Replies...Note for anyone: Look closely. That isn't a nail. It's the fingertip from the last joint onward. That's what "declawing" is for cats: Removing bone. As a result, declawed cats often suffer behavioral issues (who wouldn't) and long-term pain. They also lack a fundamental aid in climbing, and self-defense. TLDR: DECLAWING IS AMPUTATION!
When I first got my cat (age 7) we declawed her. I never realized that it was bad until now. I don't think my parents knew that it was bad/mean to do it at the time.
A lot of us didn't. Glad vets are refusing to do it anymore and it's illegal in most places.
Load More Replies...Factually, yes, calf hutches rather than veal crates. Calf hutches are legal and have "welfare" standards, while veal crates are banned in many countries. Both are cruel beyond rational comprehension. I hope that Barbara Daniels never publishes a drawing based on a veal crate, I honestly don't think I could cope with that.
Load More Replies...This is what happens to dairy cow's babies if they aren't killed immediately. Cows need to give birth to produce milk so they are kept in a cycle of artificial insemination, pregnancy, birth, stolen babies, milking (machine milking which can cause sores and wounds on the udders). This goes on until their milk production starts slowing down and then they are sent to slaughter. Think about these cows and calves next glass of milk or piece of cheese you eat.
Sorry will not help, I hope you do not consume dairy, Uma. There are many delicious, healthy plant - based dairy product on the market. Help suffering cows and calves, and help your body to stay healthy.
Load More Replies..."I learned so much from all the research I did for the artwork that I began to question my own lifestyle, and this led to my decision to become vegetarian. I still learn a lot about the world from each picture I create, and I've received a lot of positive feedback from many people inspired by my work. That really motivates me to continue with the 'Dominion over Man' series."
When I get strange looks when I cut open any plastic loops that held products together, I tell them I am "Against turtle belts and duck necklaces". It is horrible what damage it does to baby animals as they grow up.
Stop buying bottled water, folks. It's not filtered & most of it is tap water (& most likely not as safe as your own tap water).
It's just tap water from some hill in Switzerland.
Load More Replies...The sad thing is that this IS happening. Humans are suffering from the trash and pollution we make.
You say that like the fact that we do this to animals isn't the sad thing. Doing it to ourselves isn't good, but most of us have some say in it. The animals have no say at all
Load More Replies...It obviously is. Animals are the ones who get six pack rings stuck on them so that it ruins their bodies. Not humans. Duh.
Load More Replies...And thanks to the artist for reminding us.
Load More Replies..."Bentham famously held a hedonistic account of both motivation and value according to which what is fundamentally valuable and what ultimately motivates us is pleasure and pain. Happiness, according to Bentham, is thus a matter of experiencing pleasure and lack of pain." See https://iep.utm.edu/bentham/
Load More Replies...Barbara tells us what inspired her to create the comics: "The idea of exploring the relationships between humans and animals first came to me while I was eating chicken wings on holidays in Strasbourg, France. I sketched what the situation might look like if the roles were reversed. The idea resonated with me from that moment on and I began to see the world in a new light. I found endless sources of inspiration all around me in everyday life.
People refuse to believe this happens to male chicks of layer strains. If only they could see it themselves.
Man this is absolutely horrifying... fckin chicken industry. U can eat what u want, i wont force u my beliefs or ethics on u or anything, but after knowing practices like these, i decided to stop eating meats. I dont want to be part of this monstruous practices.
This isn’t the chicken industry. It’s the egg industry. The male chicks are killed since they can’t lay eggs. No meat and no eggs.
Load More Replies...And completely true. What humans do to poultry is extremely evil.
Load More Replies...I'm now officially done with chicken too. It was the last meat I would eat, but I had no idea this went on. This is mortifyingly sad.
Since I saw this drawing, I'm done with the nuggies too.
Load More Replies...* gulp gulp** crys* * cant look at picture no more* " do we rlly do this to animals i want THIS TO STOP
Same reaction. This hit me HARD. We can change our lives though. No more nuggies for me. It doesn't have to be like this. Hope amid the horror.
Load More Replies...Don't just feel bad, Kennedy, do something about it, please.
Load More Replies...What is this?!?!?!? Are there places that shred baby chickens alive?!?!?! I'm confused this is terrible!
judging from the other comments it's a place where they determine whether baby chickens are male or female, and then kill of the males because they can't lay eggs
Load More Replies...They did a holographic one! It’s freaking HOLOGRAPHIC ANIMALS! SOOOOOO COOL! Please ban real animal circuses.
It's about time humans tried this. I agree, we don't need animals in a circus.
For once it's appropriate to censor teh peepee, because most circus performing male animals are subject to a full penectomy before their "performace debut". Apparently people who don't mind taking their kids to watch animals being tortured also have a massive problem with aforesaid kids getting a fleeting glimpse of tiger d**k.
The artist also told us what the main goal of the illustrations is: "The goal of my art is to learn about our world by holding a mirror up to humanity and imagining life from the perspective of the many species dominated by the human race. It’s important to me to reverse each situation as accurately as possible, so I need to do a lot of research before beginning each piece. I learn so much from my research, and I receive a lot of feedback from people who believe that my work is spreading awareness."
I'm probably just living under a rock, but, what's the 'ear mouse thing'?
Load More Replies...To show that we use these animals to grow parts for humans. But why I thought they stopped that practice .....obviously not!
... and then overbreeding more, because "it looks cute"
Load More Replies...Purebred animals are often inbred, especially rare breeds. White tigers are horribly inbred - most cubs don't survive infancy, and those that do frequently have horrid birth defects such as misshapen heads and curved spines.
Dog shows are cool, if you are doing them for your benefit and your dogs benefit, as well as feeding your dog, NOT beating them, aka RESPONSIBLY! be ethical!
The problem is that such shows make it profitable to own a pet with peculiar looks, and thereby making it profitable to breed for peculiar looks, even if those looks cause (or are the result of) health issues.
Load More Replies...Breeding for looks rather than health or mobility. The ultimate human conceit
The only problem I see with this one is if we were actually going to switch humans and dogs the dogs would look mostly the same and not be the breeds we created through extreme breeding
I could be wrong here, but I *think* the artist has cleverly picked the dog breeds which are the least deformed by fashion-breeding (collies, 'working' spaniels and hounds) to represent the humans? To make the point that some breeds are physiologically quite close to healthy wild canids, and some are so extremely overbred that they're completely incapable of independent survival.
Load More Replies...Barbara tells us more about how she got into art: "I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a small village, art was a much-needed escape from everyday life with six brothers. Following my passion, I studied fine art at GMIT Ireland."
This is the reality, unless the animal can get the child to safety. The gorilla they put down when the child fell into his enclosure, Hamurabe? He tried to help get the kid to the door for trainers / attendants. Yet they shot him dead! Why? Because he helped, and they felt powerless, and it was the parents’ fault for not keeping a closer eye on him, or them putting him up when it clearly says, do not put children up on railing. So their kid gets hurt, a compassionate gorilla, because of a humans’ error, was put down like he was nothing.
Load More Replies...Its terrible how they kill the poor animal who tries to help. The parents should keep a better eye on their kids.
And in some cases zoos should be shut down for having improper barriers.
Load More Replies...Yes, cause humans have a pretty bad record when it encounters other species.
I wish humans were endangered and only wise, responsible, empathetic people remained.
Really depends on the zoo and what they do. There are zoos that keep endangered species alive and provide the best possible surroundings for them.
Load More Replies...Elephant rides cause spine deformities that result in the animal being killed. Fun as it may be, elephant rides contribute to them being killed once deemed no longer useful.
dont support zoo's that aren't conservations. there are conservations you can see animals, your money helps them save the beautiful creatures.
All animals should live in the wild. Unfortunately, some have to be protected in zoos.
When I was a kid I used to think Zoo's were awesome, now I have a totally different view
The artist mentioned what the most difficult part of these illustrations is: "The research I do for my work can be difficult, because it’s often very depressing. I tackle some pretty dark topics, and sometimes it affects my mood. Another difficult part of my work is the process itself. It takes about a month to complete each piece, and my chosen medium of pen and ink can be pretty unforgiving. Once that ink hits the watercolour paper, there’s no going back! Mistakes can’t be erased or covered up."
Eww what’s that in his mouth. Watching dogs fight is it fun at all. I don’t know how people watch this.
As a pitbull Dad I am saddend and disgusted at the idea of dogfighting. Pitties will go to the ends of the earth to make their hoomans happy. I wish that more hoomans would take the time to understand and love this lovabull breed.
It's really sad. Dogs were supposed to be "a man's best friend." I don't get how people actually like this. It's disgusting, to think that people actually find this "entertaining." It's really, really sad, to think that this, is reality.
I always hated dogfights. They could be with a loving home with a little boy and girl to play fetch with but instead they are getting bet on to die
Wish this horrible practice was punishable by more than a fine and a short prison sentence.
they usually electrocute the weak animals or murder them in some bad way. disgusting
I never got taxidermy. It’s just disqusting both ways. Why would you cut off something head and hang it.
I feel you. I'm in genuine psychological pain over these images, but can't look away. They say "educating yourself hurts." Turns out, I haven't been able to sleep with the light off since Friday.
Load More Replies...As long as we eat meat I find hunting way less cruel option than mass producing animals for meat.
shooting to kill is less worse then the way they kill cows for supermarkets. they used to have them restrained and would slit their throats. its sad. im not sure if they still do it though
Load More Replies...I had one boss through a temp agency who would call new people into his office deliberately. You would walk in and look right because that's where he sat but when you turned to go there was a huge moose head on the wall. I suppose he enjoyed the shock and awe but I didn't react at all and just walked out. I didn't last long - LOL - so gratifying. I have no respect for people who don't respect animals and appreciate them - Let's see you go out without your high-powered gun and take one of them down.
Barbara tells us more about what topics she covers and tells us more about her style: "I cover all topics relating to animals in all aspects of modern life. Some of the topics are gruesome, while others are a bit more lighthearted. My style is a mix between realism and caricature, and I like to focus on details. I started to focus on the role reversal concept after moving to Berlin in 2013. I still have a long list of ideas for new pictures, so I will keep going with my 'Dominion over Man' series for some time to come."
That french video of the fur industry... thats the cherry on top. Thats when u realize how not only ridiculous, but mostly stupid, cruel and ignorant ppl are when they wear fur coats and bags and scarfs... u dont look glamourous, u look like a selfish ignorant psychopath carrying a corpse while believing it makes u look beautifull.
the only fur i wear is fake. i actually almost bought this cute costume fox tail, but then i read the description and saw it was made with real fur, and i just clicked out of that page right then and there.
Load More Replies...But be very careful to make sure that it is indeed faux fur. Not sure how common it is now, but dogs and occasionally cats were used as 'faux fur'.
Load More Replies...She's so elegant! Even has a purebread white human around her, that wasn't exposed to sunlight to not affect the leather's colour. So sophisticated!
I hope these bring some awareness to people, and that they have a conscience and take action.
I know this isn't the point, but that fox is gorgeously drawn. Love the eyes
I love that excited looking ferret on the right. I’m going to adopt him and name him Mask.
But, the humans can only be five week old babies! No older! And obese, with broken legs, skin blisters, heart failures. Yum!
If you're anything like me, out of horror and despair?
Load More Replies...*shudders* CURSED IMAGE UNLOCKED - but this really is the same in all of the animal kingdom, as humans eat chicken and other meat while wolves and bears and any other predator eats other kind of meat including human if they would be given the chance - just not fried human legs ;-;
The artist shares what inspired her to keep creating: "I really enjoy creating my own parallel universe with this art, and I still learn so much about our world from each picture I create. That alone would be enough to keep me going, but I also get motivation from the positive feedback I receive from people who are inspired by my work."
Thankfully we don't do this in General Biology anymore at least in my USA state - too much to cover in the curriculum with molecular biology, biochemistry, etc. which applies to all living things rather than focusing on one animal's anatomy.
Load More Replies...my parents said that if i ever get tasked with dissecting a frog (especially if live) in school, they will back my up in my absolute refusal to do it and likely freeing of the frogs.
No don’t worry, that’s essentially what the owls don’t need! 😄
Load More Replies...I wouldn't do it as school - I was the only one in the year who left the classroom. Just why do we need to do it still?
They did say these were thought provoking. 🤷♀️ 😂
Load More Replies...In humans' defense, I don't think the majority of us run over animals on purpose xd
Enough do. And most people don't stop to check and make sure the animal isn't suffering.
Load More Replies...If you look in the first half and in the background there is an adult, a baby and one other person
Load More Replies...Notice the licence plate. Proverbs 12:10. "A righteous man regards the life of his animal. But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel."
I won't speak for the assholes who don't bother to drive carefully or the ones who laugh about hitting an animal, but in Australia out in the bush where I live, just driving down your road in the middle of the day a wallaby will come out of nowhere and hop in front of your car. (Or worse, be hiding in the bush chilling, then when you're right on top of it, it hops onto the road. You can only just see it before it's too late if it's on the drivers side) I try to avoid them the best I can and drive real slow when it's dark, but there is always one that I can't miss :(
Load More Replies...Many years ago coming back from a trip to the coast we drove by a group of people on the side of the road. There was a coyote who had been hit and it was obvious from his injuries that it was not going to survive. But it was going to die slowly and painfully. So the people on the side of the road we're waiting for someone who had a rifle so they could put the poor thing out of its misery quickly. Point being, just because you couldn't have stopped from hitting it doesn't mean you don't have a moral obligation to make sure it isn't lying there suffering when you leave
Barbara gives some advice for artists or people who want to pursue art: "Don’t be afraid to tackle difficult and uncomfortable topics in your art. When I began working on this series in 2013, I received a lot of negative feedback from friends and family who couldn’t understand why I was painting such weird pictures. Although I sometimes had my own doubts, I stayed true to my vision for four years before I started getting positive feedback. Looking back, I’m happy that I didn’t give up on this idea just to please others."
Some ppl find this ridiculous and laugh about the pro animal activists. Just put ursefl in the place of the one whos being abused or tortured. Thats empathy.
Just one of many reasons I became a vegetarian.
Load More Replies...chickens would protest for us so why do we torture them so much like that?
Load More Replies...Remember- these broilers would only be five weeks old. With broken arms and legs sticking out from some crates.
And that's only because of human monsters who "must" eat more than one million animals every single hour!!! They do not want to remember, they don't want to be told of cruelty and destruction they are causing .... and they hate those who don't.
Load More Replies...The truck driver is so cute tho. I know he’s doing something wrong but LOOK AT THE EYES! THEY LOOK SO INNOCENT! AUGHHHHHH! CHICKENS ARE SO CUTEEEEEEEE!
yes they are cute, i had pet chickens for a while, and that's one of the MANY reasons that i'm vegetarian, i find all animals cute and i can't bear to see them suffer or get hurt
Load More Replies...The reality is that humans have too many rights and no responsibilities and empathy to other sentient life.
After the transport in horrific conditions, they are executed. Humans are despicable.
A bit off topic but "picketing chickens" is REALLY enjoyable to say! 😀
Load More Replies...Fun fact: alligators were an endangered species in the late 1800s and early 1900s, to the point where there were often more hunters than gators in the swamps and bayous during hunting season. Thankfully, they were saved through conservation efforts. This is referenced in Red Dead Redemption 2.
I’m so happy about this, reptiles are my favourite species
Load More Replies...The artist tells us more about herself, her life, and her journey: "I grew up in a small village in County Galway, Ireland. After graduating with a fine art degree from GMIT Ireland in 2005, I lived in Southern California for almost eight years before spontaneously moving to Berlin, Germany in 2013."
I don't want to put words in the artist's mouth, but I see this as maybe a more subtle one. In this picture the meerkat people see themselves as a real family - cosy burrow, pictures on the wall, coffee in the pot, Dad hogging the remote as usual - and the humanimal relationship as "just" about reproduction? Referencing how simplistically we see animals, when any behavioural scientist - or anyone who's watched wild ducks on a lake or wild rabbits in a field - can tell us that they actually do form strong deep pair bonds and family bonds?
Load More Replies...Ya, birds do it, bees do it, I don't see a problem. If two dogs will copulate in the middle of a street, I doubt if privacy is an issue in their minds.
Load More Replies...Terrible. If you show people who do this stuff these pictures. They make me feel bad. Think about how you’d feel.
It's supposed to show how fra gois (I spelled it wrong but I took Spanish in university not French so please forgive me), is made by force feeding geese cause them to have a fatty liver, which is made into the fra gois.
Load More Replies...They're depicting how geese are treated in the making of fois gras. They're forced fed to increase the size of their liver.
Load More Replies...This is a pate farm. They forcefeed the ducks to fatten the liver
Don't forget the swollen, diseased liver, the torn and bleeding esophagus, and filthy cages. Enjoy your foie gras!
The industry of foie gras. Geese are forced feeded with a tube inserted in their throat with a food that will enlarge their livers so the guys can make more paste out of it. Imagine being forced feeded everyday, all ur life, with something so unhealthy that makes ur liver sick.
I don’t even have words for this. It makes me angry!!
Load More Replies...I once had some fois gras and enjoyed it very much. Then I found out how it was produced. Never again.
There's a vegan thing called "faux gras", which is a luxury pate based on truffles. Expensive but tasty as heck.
Load More Replies...It's horrible how so many creature suffer for the sake of our vanity, entertainment and cuisine. The human race has some very bad collective karma in the works. COVID-19 may be just the beginning.
"The goal of my art is not to preach about what’s right or wrong. Because of the topics in my work, some people assume that I’m trying to shove a political agenda down their throats, but really I’m just an artist exploring an idea and learning more about the world every day. I actually ate meat for most of my life, but as a result of my research for this art series, I began to question my own lifestyle and became vegetarian."
That’s terrible ,lobsters getting boiled to death by hot water!
like, at LEAST kill them first! why give them the pain? such terrible people...
Load More Replies...Dying by boiling is one of the most terrible ways of dying. Any animal should die in such horrible ways for human consumption, why isnt this considered animal cruelty? I dont understand why do they have to be boiled alive, can someone explain?
I’m not sure why I was downvoted, since I agree that lobsters should not be thrown into boiling water, because they do feel pain.
This why I will not even go to a restaurant which serve live lobsters, who on earth believes lobsters don't feel pain this day and age?
There are still medical students and doctors who believe black people don't feel pain the same way as white people. If that can still happen in this day and age idiots can still believe lobsters don't feel pain
Load More Replies...i refuse to eat lobsters. when i was young i saw a tank full of fish at a grocery store and i said "aaaww, fish!" and my mom explained to me how they were being HELD AS FOOD LIVE. i nearly cried.
The same thing applies to cows and chickens and crabs etc
Load More Replies...There was another series of similarly-themed pictures here a few years back. There, it was stated that humans do not scream from pain when being cooked, "It's just gasses exiting their bodies". True. Boiling something alive is the height of cruelty. Sadly, one of many heights...
There ya go! How can people eat lobsters after condemning them to be scalded to death????
Boiling animals ....ALIVE; who are those not bothered by such a shocking atrocities? God must really love them. I'm at the end of my wits, I don't know what to think.
People let them go into the wild sometimes and they aren’t suited to that environment so they die quickly. DON’TNDO THIS
Load More Replies...Don't like the idea of birds kept in small cages. (Great artwork by the way)
I not a fan of birds (pigeons really). But I hate bird in cages even more; I find the whole concept totally cruel and never understood people why people would do this?
The budgie my sister had before I was born was given the run of the house and loved nothing more than terrorising the cat. Used to strut around on the floor and then my sister accidentally trod on it and killed it. I still can’t forgive her even though I wasn’t there to see it.
Right on! Years ago I took in a pregnant stray. She may have been tossed out just because she got "knocked up." How irresponsible, getting a cute little kitten, not having her spayed, and then blaming her for getting preggo. Luckily Ragamuffin found me, and I found responsible homes for all of her little ones - and had her fixed. Rest in peace, Rags.
Load More Replies...Btw this is in hydra, greece. Nice place, but the donkeys... man its so sad 😢, all under a roof, waiting to be used to carry a person in an upway hill... its too cruel.
This one in particular is at the Santorini port but yes, we can say the same about Hydra. No cars means more work to the poor animals.
Load More Replies...Let's not forget that they forcefully impregnate them so they can produce milk, and then kill the babies if they're male because they're of no use to them :D
I hope that you do NOT consume dairy, Mustn't eat the mango? You are better off by eating mango.
Load More Replies...appalling to think that people actually do this to their pregnant cows, then the calves are taken off them once born and left to die if not needed.
Soy, almond, oat, etc. Cruelty-free and in many cases, no GMO's.
......and. in all cases, no bovine hormone!!!!
Load More Replies...For the people that don’t know it’s only cows that produce milk... women do for children
Females will produce milk for a REALLY long time as long as it's being consumed. Human women have been known to produce milk for upwards of 3 *years*.
Load More Replies...“And then releasing the fish”... its like u hunt the rabbit but then u take it to the vet and heal it and then release it to its habitat... its like some assholes just cant stop messing with animals however they can. I hate hunters.
I've always found it really bizarre when people justify fishing because they release it. Like I'd rather you catch the animal because you're gonna eat it, not just for the fun of watching it thrash around? Imagine if people spoke the same way about terrestrial hunting. "Yeah I hunt but it's ethical because I shoot the deer in the leg and then let it go."
Load More Replies...not to forget the forced breeding like with prized horses or dogs
artificial insemination, they use it for milk production and to make more meat, it’s inhumane and disgusting on the humans part
Load More Replies...Forced artificial insemination if anyone is wondering. More calves (future meat) equals more milk produced.
But this is how reality is. Says a lot about how we human treat animals... doesn't it?
Load More Replies...On another note: F P.E.T.A.. They steal pets, euthanize 90% of animals they "save" and are a deplorable organization.
And the worst part is, they weaken the animal welfare movement by making people think they're all ignorant strawmen.

Oh no... one of the worst... just wanna crush their f****n skulls when i see those psychos slamming baby seals
What, what Bernardita? Didn't you hear of the massacre of Baby seals.... legitimized by the Canadian Government?
Load More Replies...i love that there is an organization that just slightly spray-paints baby seals with environmentally sound spray paint, this means that people who would hunt baby seals for their pelts don't because it is no longer a perfect coat.
I've been fighting the horrendous evil of the seal slaughter practically since I could walk. I have joined dozens of protests and marches, signed hundreds of petitions, mailed dozens of postcards, sent texts and e-mails, spread flyers around calling for the end to this butchery.
I assure you that most Canadians are deeply ashamed of this and have been protesting for years. There is a slow but sure turnaround to ecotourism now to observe the cubs. Source: I'm Canadian.
Load More Replies...Reverse imaging on reality. To get fur, they club baby seals since baby seal fur are more elastic and known to be very expensive use for fur boots. You know uggos - those are baby seal fur
Load More Replies...“I am tired”, you are either extremely obtuse, or just plain old as*hole. I’m thinking both.
Gourmet s**t for assholes who think this kind of stuff (putting a whole roasted pigglet in a plate) is something luxurious
they could eat us like chicken because they can eat all of us except our bones
Delicious! I love me my human with a large carrot up his ass! And also, cut off the testicles a week or two before slaughter, so the testosterone cannot compromise the taste. Or, even better - slaughter before adolescence. Is smoother anyway.

Goldfish breeding is a dark story, in of itself. The genetic mishaps that result from it are just... ugh.
I have fishes but they have a big aquarium and me and my family feeds them every day so they are in good hands
Its worse. The monkeys here represented as humans will kill the babies when the hierarchy of food distribution is messed with. The humans love feeding the babies. They are always brutally killed by their group.
Load More Replies...Maybe I've misunderstood this one, but I think part of the point of the picture is the little humanimal child in the middle engaging in intelligent tool use (making a toy), while the monkeymen are ignoring her natural behaviour and going "lol it drink pepsicoke just like us so funni!" ?
i hate shelters like this. there is a cat shelter near me that i foster from, it has cages but they are big with plenty of room for the cats to roam, and they rotate cats being in the big rooms with a bunch of cat toys and other cats.
I'd hate to see what the pugs look like... those poor things should be outlawed. Their very existence is suffering.
Even if they say they get puppies/kittens from "reputable breeders" pet stores usually get their animals from Puppy Mills, which are horrible places for the creatures trapped inside of them, especially the trapped breeding adults. There are several videos available, if you can stomach them, on YouTube showing animals being rescued by heroes of the ASPCA, the Animal Rescue Corps, and National Mill Dog Rescue to name a few out of many more. For a primer, read: https://www.humanesociety.org/all-our-fights/stopping-puppy-mills
Only consumers can keep them in business. Why?
Load More Replies...This one just reminds me of my dog Tara (a malamute). She LOVES little dogs, but, understandably, until the owner knows she's friendly and won't eat their chihuahua, they don't let their dog say hi. That's why dog parks are awesome.
I agree... my dog was attacked several times by off-leash dogs that owners didn't control properly. Not all dogs can be responsibility kept on a lead
Load More Replies...This one isn't that bad. My dog would go crazy off the leash. We let him off if we aren't by anyone or if we are at a dog park. But please do not use collars with spikes to control your dog. Use a lead or a harness.
When unleashed, besides the obvious issues for fellow pets or other humans also other factors should be taken into account. Letting dogs roam free, unleashed, in nature is what killing pregnant roe's or bambi's right now [season]. Dog poo can cause serious issues for cows[Neospora-parasite] if they take a dump in a field where cows graze. Same like having your cat roaming free this season as birds are mating or when young bird chicks start to fly out. Pet owners should be aware about it and take their responsibillity.
None of these pictures are supposed to be funny. By transposing the animals and humans, they show how badly we treat animals.

To be fair, a lot of humans hate fireworks too, but were called killjoys.... certain mental health problems, ptsd and similar, can be very badly triggered by repeated loud bangs. Fireworks should either be completely banned (especially as they stink up the atmosphere too), or at least make ones that aren't so extremely noisy, please?
I agree. Not only is it bad for the environment and the wildlife, but it can be incredibly stressful for some people too. I’m also one of those people and refuse to go to firework shows cause it’ll cause panic attacks. I’d rather stay home with my pets where we can all be comfortable with soft noises (and cuddles of course)
Load More Replies...Frightened animals I should think. (I don't like fireworks either)
I really wish they would ban all the making and selling of Fireworks right down to the smallest sparkler and snappers. HORRIBLE for the environment in so many ways and scares most all animals terribly. Fireworks are miserable things.
Animals are often afraid of fireworks-I think the humans are scared here.
Squirrels and rabbits will abandon their babies out of fear from fireworks.
I got scared of fireworks one time bc I didn’t know what they were 😂
Once my family discovered a little mom mouse with all her little baby mice in our house. So cute, so precious. Little mouse mom rushed out the place when her nest was discovered. Everyone in my family was like “ dont touch it! Ull get infected!” Yeah they would have been right. They wanted to kill them, to just get rid of them like if they were toxic garbage. NO FCKIN WAY! WHY THE FCK? I took the babies away n put them in place where they would be safe. I thought that's the best i could do under the conditions in that moment. After a moment, the little babies where gone. I really hope her mom found her and took them to a better place and didnt eat then or something like that... the worst case scenario was a death/death fate for the mice family.
Honestly, there ARE some dangers but PLEASE be nice to mice (heehee it rhymes!) Find them and put them outside. Be ethical!
Load More Replies...I use a humane trap which catches mice alive so you can release them elsewhere.
There are some really good, live-capture mouse traps out there. We have one we've used several times and also loaned it to neighbors. We catch the little creature, give it some food and water (a clean eyedropper works great for feeding the water), then release it in a nearby greenbelt.
Use the traps that just keep them in a little container instead of killing them. Then you can let them go outside.
Yes, please don't use rat traps/mouse traps that kill the rat/mouse. Instead, use the ones that trap them (and keep a bit of food and water in there) and check them regularly. If you find a rat/mouse in there, just release it. No need to kill >_<
If there's a mouse in our pantry I catch it with a little cage trap, then release them outside again. I hate killing animals for no reason but I also prefer them not in my house :D
This is why whenever there is an insect inside I pick it up and put it outsode
I cant feel bad for roaches, sorry. They have plenty of survival advantages. I leave spiders alone though.
If there is a nasty bug in my house ima kill it. If there's a nasty bug in my tent.... ima kill it. Or run screaming. Probably run and scream. But no, my sympathies do not extend to creepy crawlers.
Is it really asked too much to take animals we don't love to share a bed with outside and leave them alive? They may be stupid, they may suck in literal sense of the word, or in other sense, they may be ugly, they may look terrifying under a magnifier, but still, their life to them doesn't mean any less than ours do to us.
Mosquitoes spread viruses. And they honestly don't care about YOU
Load More Replies...Far too often we treat animals as objects, as though they have no feelings. Sometimes we do the same to members of our own species.
Sometimes? People are trying to exterminate each other from the dawn of humanity - crime against humanity was born out of crimes against animals - that's not to say they are comparable, humans never suffer as much as animals do; praying for peace and happiness and denying the same to all other sentient beings will not work, never did, never will be.

Testing of product safety, beagles are often use in these cruel tests hence the beagle in this picture
Load More Replies...Product testing on humans instead of animals. They're being forced to breathe something.
Toxicity lab. They force beagles to breathe or consume gases or fluids until levels become toxic and end in injury or death.
COVID vaccines have all been safety tested on animals so don't be such a hypocrite. It's easy to anthropomorphise and project emotions without taking in too account vast differences between 'animals' and 'humans'
Funny how the difference human/animal is used to defend animal testing, when any value of animal testing would come from their similarities with humans. In fact, there is so much difference between animals and humans, that any animal testing is basically worthless to study human health and medicine. Many kinds of animals are used (cats, dogs, monkeys, mice, rats, etc), and there is no way to tell beforehand whether a treatment will translate from a specific animal to humans, or which animal will be most similar to human. More often than not, a treatment found a non-human species don't translated into a human treatment, and vice-versa. The whole thing is just a bad habit blended with big funds from governments and companies (because human health is important, whatever the cost) and the cognitive bias of scientists who want to protect their jobs by keeping these research funds, which are really only (sometimes) useful for veterinarians.
Load More Replies...the lab is in the previous 'cartoon'
Load More Replies...I wonder how many of these people who keep gushing about animal research being "cruel" are actual vegetarians or vegans. Because the regulations and official supervision in animal testing is stricter than in any other form of animal husbandry - and definitely stricter than in dairy or meat farming. So if you are against animal testing while eating a hamburger you are - what was the word again? - oh, yeah: a c*nt! You are a c*nt.
There are so many methods of non-animal testing that are reliable and more accurate than heinously torturing animals: cell cultures, human tissue, computational methods, microfluidic devices (organs - on - chips), and organoids. Numerous doctors agree that vivisection retards scientific progress because animal models are unlike naturally occurring human diseases and injuries.
Does anyone out there want to be the guinea pig for next proposed cancer d**g? Because each new cancer d**g is just a poison of degree. Cell culture and computer models don't hack it showing all of the possible interactions within the body. So, want to play the game and see whether the new d**g will kill you or cure you first and whether you're going to keep your normally functioning organs in the process?
While I imagine it's confusing for bees to be smoked and have a portion of their honey harvested, bee keepers care for their bees and with the steep decline in wild populations many crops would also be in trouble.
Agree 100%. I've only known a couple people who kept bees but each one cared deeply about them and did everything they could to make sure they thrive. They also go out and take swarms or hives out of situations they would be exterminated in to relocate somewhere safer. There's some human/animal/insect interactions that benefit everyone
Load More Replies...My dad has been a beekeeper for over 40 years. I would disagree with saying he is actually hurting the bees. He always replaces the honey with something so the bees do not starve or miss out. He also is able to keep the hive more healthy by controlling mites etc. The whole goal is to keep the bees happy and healthy! I do agree it would be very weird if our roles were reversed!
Mass breeding of honeybees affects the populations of other nectar-foraging insects, including other bees. The numbers of native bumblebees have declined. Beekeepers aim to harvest the max of honey. When they remove honey, they replace it with sugar substitute but it lacks the essential micro-nutrients of honey. Honey bees are bred to increase productivity. This selective breeding narrows the gene pool and increases susceptibility to disease and large-scale die-offs. Diseases are also caused by importing different species of bees. The diseases spread to other pollinators, disputing the myth that honey production is good for our environment. Also, hives can be culled post-harvest to keep costs down. Queen bees often have wings clipped to prevent them leaving to produce a new colony, which would lessen profit. The honey industry, like many, is profit-driven where the welfare of the bees is secondary to commercial gain.
Generally speaking the bee keepers are the best of the best. Their bees are well looked after, smoking is only to allow harvesting then there are those who do not use smoking any more they have the honey tap system, which drains the honey without disturbing the bees.
I do believe that the bees being smoked must feel some kind of pain and confusion, but honey is still pretty important. On top of that, I'm pretty sure beekeepers actually care for their bees to the extent that they can-
The bees don't feel pain, I would imagine that they're confused though.

Aw i like to feed the pidgeons... i love pidgeons... is it bad to feed them? One time i got a pidgeon eating on my hand, n then another pidgeon stood over the first pidgeon and started eating too. They stacked. So magical and funny xD
I don't see anything wrong with feeding them, so long as the food you're giving them won't kill/hurt them (like bread for ducks).
Load More Replies...This one's interesting. What would a city centre habitat look like if pigeons designed then and we were just an endemic cohabiting species? Is the building on the right an office space reimagined as a roosting colony cliff? (But serious point about "nutrient pollution". Don't forget about racing Homers. Tearing them from their homes and mates, then setting them loose miles and miles from home.
:( This is a sad picture. Also, completely off topic, who eats french fries like that?
Don't look like french fries. Just chips. I buy chips and gravy from the fish and chip shops all the time and you obviously need a fork for that but still (they come in that kind of container too).

But people eat goats, Kseniya. Unlike people, goats were made smart.
Load More Replies...This would have worked better if they had chosen animals that actually eat meat.
I think that's exactly the point though. Humans are only technically "omnivores" in the sense that we can - just about - digest meat. But we're in no sense "obligate carnivores", we don't need meat to live, any more than a cow or a sheep or a goat does. The idea that meat protein is necessary for a healty balanced diet is pure advertising dressed up as science.

False binary. Disease rips through captive animal populations in a way that would be mathematically impossible in the wild. This isn't about killing vs letting die. This is about breeding, cramming and industrial warehousing of animals.

Load More Replies...Dude spaying and neutering saves lives. I think one surgery is better that 8+ lives
Hey now- spaying and neutering is important. The more animals reproduce, the more babies they can have, the more go homeless. Fixing animals keeps animals from starving in the streets.
Spaying and neutering your pets is important. There are already so many strays on the streets, and when they aren't spayed or neutered, it gets out of control. Cats and dogs multiple f a s t. Many many argue that women need their tubes tied and men need vasectomies, but when it comes down to it, those surgeries are much more invasive and it takes so much more healing, especially for women. Animals aren't able to control their urges and they aren't able to use protection. Humans are able to though. We're in so much more control than animals. Spaying and neutering your pets is so important.
Jackie: How do you know animals don't have souls? They are kinder than humans. If they are treated with love they give 10 fold back. While I get the point of this panel, I do support neutering pets. Thousands of animals are euthanized because there are more abandoned or put up for adoption than can be adopted out. You can't not be 100% sure your pet will not procreate unless they are neutered. A lot of shelters insist the animal be neutered before they let you adopt or make you promise to do it when it is old enough. Another thing: Get you pet chipped. Many, many animals have been returned to owners, even several YEARS later..because it was chipped and they kept their contact information up to date in the data base.
It is still technically harming the animal but it is probably the lesser of two evils; either spaying or overpopulation and excess animals in bad conditions
Load More Replies...The guy who said that the animals dont have souls must be the same one who started his tweet with “as a white christian adult male” (was it like that?)
Replying to Jackie. First of all PROOF?!?!?! You have absolutely no proof of them not having souls. Second of all, if you won’t start this argument, I one hundred percent will. Animals DO have souls. They CAN feel pain. They DO experience emotions. They CAN suffer. So what if we’re slightly smarter than they are? Who cares?!?! I have a bird, her name is Skittles, and she has feelings. She gets mad. She gets hungry. She gets happy. She has a soul. I DARE YOU to find proof she doesn’t have one. Human beings are terrible. Animals are better than we are, yet we act like we’re better than them. Animals care if one of their own dies. Animals don’t murder each other ruthlessly for no reason. Humans do. And humans treat other beings like s**t. Animals don’t do that. Animals definitely have souls, and they’re better than we are. Jackie, your comment needs more downvotes.
But I thought by spaying your pet you where actually helping them to live fuller lives... sorry kitties idk :(
It does help them look fuller lives. Animals that are not fixed can end up getting horrific infections and have other serious problems. Not to mention the starvation of having more animals than there are food sources

Sheep need shearing because we've bred them like that. Primitive sheep have fleece that can be 'rooed' which mean plucked off, or if they're wild, just falls off. The reason we have so many sheep that need shearing is because we breed them for meat. If we didn't eat sheep (lamb) then there wouldn't be nearly so that need to undergo shearing. And yes many smallholders treat their sheep well, it's the large commercial breeders where time is money that end up injuring lots of sheep during shearing.
You're supposed to shear sheep. If you don't, their coats keep growing and growing, which causes a multitude of problems. And it doesn't hurt them either.
wouldnt it be rather uncomfortable for a human to have so much hair anyways?
Ok for all of you who don't have any clue why this is bad, do you think sheep in the wild NEED to be sheered? The answer is no, they were literally bred so that we could get their wool or they will overheat, don't kid yourselves thinking this is for the sheep.
Wild species of sheep don't grow the massive amounts of sheep that many domestic breeds do, so of course they don't need to be sheared. Domestic sheep breeds are not wild sheep and would have more troubles than just the lack of shearing if they were left to their own in the wild.
