I've often been called arrogant and snobbish because I "sound posh" and use long words. It's not a façade; I just have naturally good pronunciation and a large vocabulary thanks to growing up reading a hell of a lot so it's normal to me to use words like "prevaricating" when I'm talking. At least I aced this quiz.
Reading helped me with cattywumpus (Celia Rivenbark)
Load More Replies...Got 23/24. A couple I took an educated guess at. My one failing was number 24. The word, as I know it, has a different meaning.
Catawampus is a distinctly American word, not one I (British, 60) was aware of until I happened upon an episode of "Treehouse Masters" a few years ago. "Awry" or "lopsided" might have been fairer choices for non American English speakers.
Load More Replies...I had not encountered Celerity before. Love discovering a new word :)
It shares the same root as accelerate. Celer is Latin for swift, so celerity is swiftness and accelerate is to make more swift.
