Senior Moggies In Ireland Looking For A Retirement Home For St Patrick’s Day
Older cats are often overlooked at rescue centres in favour of younger cats and kittens. At Assisi Animal Sanctuary in Northern Ireland there are a lot of older cats looking for a nice home to live out their retirement.
These seniors have found themselves at the Sanctuary for a variety of reasons and are hoping the “luck of the Irish” will get them a new home in time for St Patrick’s Day. They have a lot of love to give and because of their age some find Sanctuary life a stressful environment to be in.
The advantage of having an older cat is that you know their personality and they are not going to wake you up at 2am doing zoomies across the hallway!!
Older cat Bacardi was successfully adopted at 15 years of age from Assisi Animal Sanctuary in 2015 by UK Sky Sports reporter Laure James and her partner Conor Maguire.
The couple knew they wanted to give an older cat a home and went to Assisi Animal Sanctuary in search of their new addition.
It was love at first sight when they saw tabby Bacardi pop her head out of a cosy igloo and let out a little meow.
Bacardi now affectionately nicknamed Queen B settled into their home quickly and sleeps in bed with the couple every night, even though she snores!
The moggy now 18 years old loves being brushed, bird watching and her little cosy bed beside the radiator. You can tell she is very much loved by the portrait Laure’s cousin drew of Bacardi proudly hanging on the wall.
Laure says “If you’re thinking of getting an older cat don’t hesitate. Because what they give you back is invaluable and completely priceless.”
Here are some of the senior cats available at Assisi Animal Sanctuary who are looking for a retirement home where they can be spoiled and live out the rest of their life in comfort.
