Vegans have been the punchline of countless jokes online for years. "What do they eat, dirt?" And, "How do you know somebody’s a vegan? Well, they’ll tell you within seconds of meeting you!" But the truth is that vegans are a seriously misunderstood group. They only make up about 1% of the population, and despite what you might have heard, they aren’t all militant, aggressive, and angry. They just don’t want to harm animals!
To prove that these herbivores have a sense of humor just like everyone else, we took a trip to Vegan Memes World on Instagram. Below, you’ll find some of their funniest posts that might make you giggle whether you’re plant-based or not. So enjoy scrolling through these pics, and be sure to upvote the ones that inspire you to have a meatless Monday!

Fact. Just add garlic, orange juice, and a James Martin amount of butter.
My mother went straight from "they'll ruin their feet with those heels" to "they'll ruin their feet with those trainers". At least she's shut up about my birkies now.
Now, I have to admit that I’ve been vegan for a decade. So I have a lot more experience eating plant-based and educating myself on veganism than the average person. But if you’re not familiar with this lifestyle, don’t worry. We’ll break it down for you.
Simply put, the Vegan Society defines veganism as “a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” This means removing animal products completely from your diet and refusing to purchase any products that come from or were tested on animals.
While people often tend to focus on the dietary aspects of veganism (which is understandable, considering we all have to eat multiple times a day), it also extends to leather products, cosmetics that are tested on animals, wool, and more.
There are gray areas, of course. Some vegans might not see anything wrong with purchasing second-hand leather shoes from a thrift store. But in general, that’s the goal: avoid purchasing or promoting anything that exploits or harms animals. Essentially, it’s all about animal welfare. And it takes things a step further than vegetarianism, because the dairy and egg industries are absolutely horrific towards animals as well.
They are for now. In a few months the cow will be bigger and the dog will be bossing the cow around.
Many vegans choose this lifestyle due to their love and/or respect for animals. They believe that we as humans don’t have the right to exploit or use animals for our own purposes, especially in this day and age, where the vast majority of us are getting our food from grocery stores. When beans, lentils, tofu, oat milk, and vegan cheese are right there on the shelf, you don’t have to purchase meat and dairy. You’re not out hunting for it! But there are countless other benefits that many vegans experience after making the switch.
One of the biggest misconceptions about being vegan is that it’s unhealthy, unsustainable, or even dangerous. But that’s simply not true. Time and time again, doctors agree that a well-planned vegan diet can be just as, or even healthier, than an omnivore diet. In fact, many people report experiencing healthy weight loss, lower blood sugar levels, a lower risk of diabetes, a lower risk of certain cancers, a lower risk of heart disease, and an overall increase in wellbeing.
Meanwhile, heart disease is the most fatal health issue impacting Americans. So clearly, a diet full of animal products won’t necessarily make you healthy. (And if you're not concerned about eating healthy, there are plenty of recipes out there for vegan chocolate cake or vegan mac and cheese too!)
I go for the French fries and I am NOT complaining. Maybe im not even vegetarian...maybe i just reaaallly like potatoes and that happens to be both 🤔
But if you don’t care about the animals or your own health, perhaps you care about the future of the planet? If you have children or grandchildren, you probably want them to live in a world that has reasonable temperatures, clean water, and fresh air. But the animal agriculture industry is one of the leading causes of greenhouse gases, responsible for between 12% and 20% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
At the same time, it takes 1,800 gallons of water to create one pound of beef, compared to only about 300 gallons to create one pound of tofu. Oh yeah, and 300 calories of tofu has the same amount of protein as 300 calories of beef. So you won’t have a problem getting those gains.
Another common misconception about eating a plant-based diet is that it is expensive. People often associate it with wealthy celebrities or Angelinos who exclusively shop at Erewhon. But the reality is that a plant-based diet can be extremely accessible and affordable. We all know that egg prices have gotten crazy in recent years, but meat and dairy products certainly aren’t cheap either.
If you avoid specialty and luxury vegan products, you can make so many budget-friendly meals. Living off beans, lentils, chickpeas, grains, tofu, and frozen fruits and vegetables might actually save your household a substantial amount of money.
Something people often assume about vegans is that they’re pushy, aggressive, and rude. Why are they always trying to force me to change my choices? Well, this is a stereotype. The vast majority of vegans are just minding their own business. Sure, they would love for you to go vegan someday or start eating plant-based a few days out of the week. Every step is progress! You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight. But you also don’t have to be scared of eating tofu. It’s not going to affect your hormones, I promise.
Uhh, it should be noted that this restaurant resumed serving meat and fish in August of 2025 after being Vegan for just over 4 years.

I'm not vegan, but I have a vegan family member. One holiday, I made vegan brownies to bring so she could eat them. My vegan family member, my husband, and I were the only ones to eat them. We had a lot left, and we couldn't finish them all, so I told my husband to bring them to work (I was working from home). He did, and they were gone almost immediately. One person left a note in the empty pan: "10 out of 10 stars. Would vegan again." 🥹
I don't mind doing this at all, I consider it polite to the host. Of course, I'm a bit more creative than simply hauling over a watermelon.
I cannot imagine why any one would give af what someone else eats? Vegan or not
Or you could just mind your own business and not try and not try and influence what other people eat. I am vegetarian, that is my choice, I will never try and tell other people to become vegetarian or vegan. As part of my job, I advise people on how to eat a healthy diet but I never try to steer them to one particular diet, I simply produce a diet plan that caters to their preferences, whether it is vegan, vegetarian or includes meat.
Seriously though I don't understand that. If you don't want to eat meat why do you want it to taste like meat? I just want someone to explain that logic to me.
Fun fact: I became lactose intolerant in North America. In Europe, I had some issues but never zeroed in on dairies. Turns out: cow milk produces milk proteins called casein. Two kind: casein A2 (the original one) and casein A1 (a mutation, some thousands years ago). I'm allergic to casein A1, which is more common in North American cows. Sheep, goat and buffalo don't have the mutation at all and I can drink their milk or eat their cheese or yogurt no problem, despite the lactose. Obviously soy milk even less.
I think that the emphasis on being a 'pure' vegan is not doing anyone any favors. So the product contains a trace of milk powder? Unless you have an allergy, it's still a massive improvement on the product that is 50% animal products. Perfection is the enemy of the good. When studies are done on people who profess to be strict vegans, a shockingly high percentage of them have knowingly eaten animal products in the previous week.
Eating dairy is not vegan. Do whatever you want, but it is what it is.
Load More Replies...I think everyone needs to get off the food police train. I don't care what you eat, I don't care how you like it cooked, none of that is my business. No is it your business what I choose to eat or how I like it cooked. Mind your own plate not everyone else's.
I feel a lot of judgement from the vegan side. A healthier lifestyle shouldn't b so, hypocritical, u don't want judgement u shouldn't cast any. I'll always question y u choose 2 do so, besides medical,. Seems like a lot excess energy 2 eat. As long as I can I will eat what I can, when I can, however I want n appreciate every moment that I have that choise, without remorse. Personally a bowl of ice cream can compete w cereal 4 my breakfast!
