In the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement and George Floyd protests, solidarity is not only helpful, it’s revolutionary. And even if not everyone has an opportunity to join the peaceful crowds and air their views out loud along with hundreds of supporters, it doesn’t take much to speak up.
These lone people from all around the country are setting an example of how to stand up in communities, suburbs, and small towns without anyone to back them up. From a woman doing her own march 'cause none of her friends wanted to join her to a lone protester holding up a BLM sign in the heart of a small southern city, here are some of the most inspiring real-life examples. They prove no voice is ever too small, and it’s never too late to speak up for what’s right.

Tears to my eyes... here is another unsung hero and saint of our modern times!
It’s always good to know your rights before going to a protest to avoid any possible misunderstanding. The government can’t stop you from peacefully protesting, but it can restrict the time, place, and manner of the protest. However, the content itself can never be a reason to block the protest.
Remember that on private property, though, nobody has a right to assemble. Police can move you off the property and keep you from demonstrating there.

oh wow. Don't take on that burden, sir. If you behave correctly, it is worth so much. seriously, these photos of the lonely protesters touch me so much more than the images of the mass protests. These people are so brave! It is much harder to stand alone for one thing than together.

Sadly, I think there's always going to be bigotry. I do think we can and should make it actually illegal, though. End police immunity to civil suits and criminal prosecution. Narrow the divide between rich and poor. Raise the minimum wage. Tax investments and close tax loopholes. Break up monopolies and actually fine companies amounts that hurt them. Provide universal health care and state university education. Get rid of trump and the GOP. These things are possible and necessary to preserve the US, and allow it to grow and thrive for another 244 years.

There will always be people that feel that they belong to a group that is better than the other. But. But we can do much better than this. It's starts with acknowledgement and defining what is wrong to even start to do better. But we can. It's our schtick as humans beings to grow and find each other to become more than the sum of ourselves.

You really need to be very brave, and not to give a f... about other people's opinions to demonstrate in a small town against the general opinion. Depending on the town and your profession, supporting an unpopular opinion could mean your "death": people won't hire you, or contract you, or shop in your store. Perhaps this elderly man has nothing to lose.

Consider bringing water and a snack at minimum. If you bring a bag, prepare for it to be searched.
People should also remember that we’re still in times of pandemic, so “wearing a mask can keep you from breathing in droplets containing coronavirus.” Coming within close contact of other protesters could expose you to their spit or sneezes, which may carry the coronavirus.

Just to clear the record, this is my town & our mayor shut down the hwy to allow protestors their voice. In addition, our cops protected the protestors THEN did double duty to protect businesses at nightfall from non-protesting thieves aka looters. ***Remember not everything online is true.

When it comes to taking photos and videos at the protest, as long as it’s a public space, you’re free to do so. Emerson Sykes, a staff attorney with the ACLU’s Speech, Technology and Privacy Project, who studies free speech protections under the First Amendment, told Mercury News that you have the right to take photos and videos of what’s happening at a protest in a public place. You are able to record police, too.
Another good tip from Sykes is to “memorize or write on your arm the number to a local or national law organization that could assist you in getting out of jail,” because you never know if you're gonna need legal help or in case you get arrested.

I was shopping in Norfolk a few days back and suddenly found myself stuck in the middle of the demonstration. I couldn't join them - I might have done so if I'd been prepared, but I was just picking up necessities from the store and had 2 gallons of milk in my truck. It brought tears to my eyes to see the hundreds of people standing outside the building, peacefully holding up signs, especially since the cops on duty were merely present to close the street. When I got back home I logged onto the local news stations' web sites and learned that it was a peaceful protest and there had been no violence or arrests. I wish that was true of all of the protests in this area, but for the most part, there were no problems.

Systemic racism is real. I have a son that I love dearly. And yet, I have never ever thought about teaching him from a young age how to behave if he would happen to be stopped by the police. You know, I don't think that his life would be hanging by a thread at all. But then again, I am white, my son is white (white privilege is also real), and I do not live in the US.

The context of this picture is incredibly important, based on this photograph alone. Nobody knows, apart from the people in the picture and the person taking the picture, what was said beforehand this was taken. Maybe he's just a d**k and she didn't she was taunting them or something, or had a "f**k the police" attitude.

I admire people who go on demonstrations, because I'm terrified of crowds. But this is even braver, especially if you live in a small area, and all your friends, neighbours and acquaintances support the opposite point of view.in a crowd you are anonymous, but these people are facing the world alone
