Reading comics may be a great way to relax and to distract yourself from the problems in the real world. They offer an escape into another realm and they are enjoyable to read as the images are already suggested.

But some modern artists like to stay in reality and explore everyday problems, making more people aware of them as well as making them discuss and be more mindful. One of these artists is PinkWug. His comics reflect the injustice in the world, but in a fun and playful way.

I worked with out a union and the manager's favorites got everything. We unionized and then there was a written contract so that the rules were clear and everybody knew how things were going to go. It was easier on managers in a way too because they had rules to go by.

I support the free market, which means that unions and the big companies are both fine. If the workers aren't getting paid their market value, then it makes sense for them to strike.

But it's also bad for the workers, as the company now has a reason to fire them all and hire new ones.

Striking for the value of your labor works. Striking above the value of your labor doesn't always work. If a doctor gets paid as much as a janitor and wants more, then the company has no choice. However, if a janitor wants to get paid as much as a doctor, then the company can fire them all and hire replacements.

No, it's still your problem. Or at least of your coworker. Companies are groups. If enough people start slacking/ breaking their promise, the group will suffer so much that it cannot recover. Too many people are suggesting that it is ok to break your promise, and think it wouldn't have negative consequences. Sure, you can extort your co-workers or suppliers/customers to gain a short term gain, but at some point someone will be facing the consequences. If you aren't happy with your job, go look somewhere else or develop an essential skills. A 10% raise isn't going to give you meaning.

Bored Panda got in touch with PinkWug and he revealed to us that he has never been that artist that draws all the time: “I didn't doodle in my notebook in high school like most artists I know.”

The artist’s comics definitely have a distinctive style in the color scheme and the characters as well as the dialogs. But what really sticks out are the unusual topics. A lot of successful webcomic artists avoid talking about sensitive subjects like politics as that often results in a very mixed and crazy response from the readers.

We asked, what encouraged the artist to focus on such difficult themes as politics and economy and it turns out, it was carefully thought about, “My main focus was always on tackling political themes. The comic format was chosen because it's the perfect medium to quickly introduce people to new lines of thought, new perspectives on the various political issues that affect us all.”

There is always a chance for a better life. We just don't want to face the discomfort of starting over. Look at people that have the courage to leave an abusive spouse, or a deeply religious family. Gay men or women in general. It's just scary as f*CK to leave the group we feel we depend on. Our biology hasn't adapted to the fact that thanks to the market we can live much more independently and are not as reliant on groups as we thought. Cheap housing, less luxury go a long way.

PinkWug is creating comics about what he is really passionate about and with his art, he is trying to make people be more involved in the world we live in. He says “Political apathy is a real problem and I wanted to play a small role in getting more people to care about civil and labor rights.”

But as mentioned before, talking about these matters sparks heated discussions. In fact, PinkWug told us, “The range of reactions my comics have created can only be described as wild. There are always people fighting in the comment section for hours on end.”

I know we can never properly strike like a lot of other industries and what I have suggested in the past is that nursing and junior doctors be given a higher tax free threshold most governments in the world do this for their military to incentivise joining the same should happen for nurses

Nurses are often pressured not to take breaks, not to take vacations, and to work overtime that they don't want. Back in the 1960s nurses were told that some religious hospitals that they should work overtime for free as it would be good for their souls.

Old here. In Nursing School it was made clear to us our job may end up to be life threatening. There's no turning it down because of that. During SARS l, our hospital had over 20 people inpatient with it at any given time. More than any one hospital in the world outside of China. The SARS Unit was hazmat suits. The only nurses who were exempt were those with a respiratory issue, like asthma because we wore PPE all shift everywhere. Not just SARS unit. We care deeply for our patients. On a bad day we'll go without a meal or a break, quick guzzle of water & its great if families bring junk finger food we can stuff down & keep going. Almost everyday. This is normal! If you're late out by even 45 min consistently, its your fault for poor organization. Admin & govt push &push. Why? They count on us being completely selfless & nice. Hate to say it, but we need to stop & stand up for ourselves. But if we do, we'll be called selfish whiners by Admin & govt. And WE better not call in sick either.

Nurses are both beneficiaries and victims of professional licensing. Overpaid (compared to less protected workers doing similar work) and at the same time vulnerable to less than ideal working conditions. Too bad health care is so overregulated.

Their job is what they signed up for and with any research should have expected. They do a fantastic job and are underappreciated a lot (compared to doctors which seem to get a lot more respect, despite doing almost the same job a lot of the time), but you can't really compare asking them to do their job to holding a gun to them?

With the masks and clapping I was taking this to be a reference to Covid. Nurses did not sign up to risk their lives every day on Covid wards. They did not sign up to work until they collapse. They signed up to care for people and by god do we owe them for that!

In 1976, the US passed a law making student loans un-dischargable. You have to pay them back even if you go bankrupt. 1976 is also when the degree-mills popped up in the US where they sell you a bill of goods saying you are getting new careerbut you're actually just getting a huge debt and no job skills. Mallinckrodt declared bankruptcy in the US to avoid having to pay for their role in the opiod crisis. Meanwhile the woman who has to file bankruptcy because she lost everything trying to pay for her son's rehab still has to pay that $200K student loan back. She got that debt at a 2 year nursing program that turned out to not be certified so she couldn't even take the test to get a job.

Actually the willingness to pay for college is driven by access to cheap credit. That is why it is so expensive. Decrease access to credit (and lower equal access to education) and see how tuition drops. No easy choice imho.

However, he sees the bright side as well, “There are also people willing to learn and people willing to teach. There are people thanking me for tackling issues they care deeply about and there are people wishing me death. All in all, I would give it a B+.”

Well, it seems that when some issue really matters to someone, they will accept all sides of the debate and this artist is proof of that.

Not a funny sketch, but closer to the truth than the others. Public housing is risky as it introduces corruption, and public schools tend not to care for the interests of the students as one would like.

In the original story, Batman, as a young boy called Bruce Wayne, witnessed his parents being murdered and swears to become the Caped Crusader against crime. In the comics, he does this by using his inheritance to become a vigilante, beating up criminals and generally dispensing more justice than the Gotham Police Department by means of violence and more or less being as anti-social as the criminals he fights. Here, instead, BatPinkwug uses his millions of dollars to fund schools, soup kitchens and public housing - the lack of which is generally considered to be key factors in the root causes of crime. In areas where there is adequate housing, food and education, crime rates are lower. BatPinkwug is fighting crime by tackling the causes of crime, rather than the criminals.

How come nobody ever points out it all started with men? Men realized they could hurt and control women long before they noticed other cultures and attacked them. ALL colors, religions, races, sizes, patterns of men, all looked at women and decided men were better than women.

Yes they did. You're being downvoted bc men can't handle the truth. There's factual evidence of this throughout history and they don't like to be confronted w it bc they feel they're not the problem they just perpetuate old ways of thinking and are complicit when they don't speak up when they see or hear something that's wrong bc they don't want to rock the boat or it doesn't directly affect them so it's not their problem. It would be great if everyone came together and listened to peoples problems instead of not caring

They were also threatened relentlessly. Biden kissed his granddaughter on the mouth and f****r Carlson and the rest of the trump cult called him a pedophile. This stat is not true. About 0.1% of black men that die are killed by cops (see https://www.pnas.org/content/116/34/16793). However, as a percentage of black people that are killed it would be much higher.

George Floyd didn't deserve to die. HIS case was one where the cops were at fault. However, there were some other cases where I believe that the cops are not at fault.

Umm he was dead either way, he ingested his own product in lethal amounts nothing would have saved him at that point but hey, lets not let facts get in the way of our feelings right?

I mean, if sombody shoots at them or runs away after being found armed or just can't stop threatening them to get such reaction... justified weapon usage. Edit: Unarmed people, like the headline in the picture say, are of course no threat that requires gun useage

Teachers and Healthcare workers are two of the most vital occupations in the world. They don't get paid enough. They get passive "thanks" until they start asking for better conditions, and then society turns on them.

I think all front line workers and people in service industries should be paid higher than they are. They are the backbone of society and should be valued as such.

Flip side, if someone has developed a company worth billions, it's more obvious they add unique value to a business

this makes no sense. how would eating rich people reduce poverty? wouldnt the economy crash with much less invested in the market? thats still common sense right? right?

LOL. Instant negative. Whether we like it or not, a very rich person may open a business. We peons get to work at that business. Some of those peons might even have a great life working at that business as it expands and grow. Tax the rich, take their stuff and eating them will not get you a job in their new business endeavor. It may even discourage them. Spit on them for their rich house and expensive car and they will stop buying said car and said house. They will just purchase these things elsewhere and help someone else's economy. They also won't be donating to any needy organizations in your area. Why bother? Why help those who hate them?

Always remember, if they're profitable it's because they're not paying you the actual value of your labor. Unionize and demand they take less of what you're due.

If it were a zero sum game as you said, then the company would go belly up the moment they pay fairly. Which is not case in most of them, you can a have healthy company without starving your employees.

There are good examples like Costco which tends to pay their employees living wages and yet are still profitable

Unfortunately it works like this: If you continually force a company to pay more, they will move to a place where they can pay less to be competitive. There are plenty of poorer locations in this world where a couple of US dollars is a good wage that will keep families fed. Or it becomes cheaper to install automated and computerized everything and anything. Figure out how to keep the company profitable and pay a decent wage in their home country and you have the secret to happiness. Spit on them, picket them, increase taxes and healthcare and sue them for more pay and they will either fold or leave or automate.

No, it won't, there are companies that have been valued at insane levels even if they have had no profit, the stock market is not exactly rational, indeed it doesn't make a lot of sense.

You're value isn't based upon what you produce, but how expensive you are to replace. Maybe if liberals didn't keep letting in do much competition, you would be harder to replace.

Exactly! Even with that though, (similarly how even in places where getting sterilized are legal, women still struggle to find a doctor who will do it for them) many trans people will probably struggle to get approval because doctors can be bigots too, and the overall public opinion is very uneducated on trans issues.

I am afraid I might be out of touch. Are you guys serious? I think this trans thing is about women to want to be guys and vice versa. Whatever. If you look like a guy, use the guys bathroom and hop into a stall. If you look like a girl you get to use a stall. If you have loads of testosterone and look like a guy with make up then no, you are not allowed to compete in women's wrestling. it's not fair. Besides, my biggest beef is Why do you have to tell me who you want to have sex with? Why do you have to have a flag, a sticker and a tee-shirt? I really don't care. Would you like me to start a club about toes? Hey, everyone who is into Toes should band together. And because we're into toes doesn't mean we're into Your toes. Here, have a sticker. Sheesh. how silly. Follow a few simple rules. . . No hating others, No Feeling up each others Toes in Public, Don't even mention Toes. Why would you want to? That shirt just makes you a target for the crazies anyway.

In fairness to previous generations, they didn't always realise that things they were doing were a problem (even though maybe they should have), but more importantly those were still necessary steps to take to get where we are now, at a point we can maybe fix things

We've been knowing about global warming since the 1950's. Politics have been urged to do something since the late 80's. Politics have started to vaguely wake up in the late 2000's early 2010's. We are in 2021 and we are STILL not doing enough. The matter of global warming is still a minority point in politics everywhere and the biggest motor for change today is not actual concern for our future but company marketability.
