When someone tells me their name for the first time I group them in my mind with other people with the same name, or think of a song that uses their name, or make up a little rhyme about it. Anything to increase the number of connections their name has in my brain.

I don't get it - if I don't remember somebody's name, I just tell them so. Everybody is more or less stressed out and some details, like names, tend to escape the overworked brain. No big deal, happens to most of us at some point. I'd rather remember our conversation and the things they told me than their name - the person is more important than the "label"...

Slightly different to this post, but how to find out someone’s age (has been used successfully by me). If they have a job, ask them this: ‘How long have you been doing your job?’ And then later, ‘how old were you when you started working here?’. Put the two numbers together and bingo, you have their age.
