I’m A Stay-At-Home Dad And I Wanted To Make My Daughters’ Room Special, So I Painted Murals In Their Room (19 Pics)
I’m a stay at home dad of 2 beautiful little girls (almost 3 and 6). We moved closer to my in-laws about a year ago, while we love the house it was built in the early ’80s. The vast majority of the walls have that hard “sand” texture on them so going the vinyl cling route wasn’t an option. I used to be fairly artistic years ago, but I’ve not really painted anything outside of changing wall colors for probably 20+ years since high school (especially nothing close to this scale). I’ve always wanted to and thought about painting a mural for my kids someday.
Anywho… this is what I came up with. I used a cheap LED projector that I found on Amazon (which also works great for movie nights now), I penciled on the general shapes/proportions, then made at least a couple passes on each with acrylics trying to get as much detail in as I could. I spent probably 3-4 hours a day 5+ days a week for the better part of the summer. The girls have a lot of different favorites so I couldn’t fit them all in, but overall they love it. We still need to change out the windows and replace the trim before we move them into the new room.
(I do know Moana comes off a little dark, I spent many hours trying to get the skin tone right, and it’s about as good as I could do at the time, the reference image was a little darker too, so that could be part of it.)
I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Share on FacebookI'd be really happy if my dad ever did something like that! My wall looks so boring now ;-; You should be very proud! It looks amazing!
What a great dad, you'll have to make up your own stories for yourent girls based on those walls
these are really beautiful, all of them. you know, what I would probably do? I would use a transparent oil paint (I don't know, something to preserve the paint), and I would keep that room forever as a fairyland room. Wait, I understood that there are some paints which reacts with light, you can create hidden characters when the light is off,
Thank you, I'll look into that.
