Mckenna Grace has drawn attention after opening up about her reservations surrounding intimate scenes.

The 20-year-old actress, who has spent much of her life working in Hollywood, recently revealed that certain roles remain outside her comfort zone, prompting a wave of reactions online.

Grace’s comments came during a November 2 interview with Cosmopolitan, where she was discussing her upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Highlights
  • Mckenna Grace opens up about refusing roles that require her to perform intimate scenes.
  • The former child star's comments sparked a heated social media debate as fans questioned why the 20-year-old had to explain her personal boundaries.
  • Grace also revealed why some on-screen moments remain "terrifying" to her.

While several fans have defended her right to set boundaries, others have questioned why the former child star was asked to discuss such personal choices in the first place.

“This is weird,” one X user pointed out.

During her conversation with Cosmopolitan, Grace was asked whether there were any particular roles she would refuse to take on.

The Young Sheldon alum shared a candid response about her current boundaries, admitting she wasn’t yet ready to tackle roles that require her to ditch her clothes.

“At this point, I definitely don’t do nud*ty or very hyperse*ual things. I respect anybody who can, but it’s terrifying to me. I don’t know if that’ll ever change,” she said.

Grace also clarified that her decision does not mean she intends to limit herself to wholesome roles.

Pointing to her work in the Scream franchise, she explained that she has no reservations about portraying characters in darker, more violent stories.

“It’s not like I only do wholesome things—my character literally gets gutted by Ghostface in Scream—but my dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday,” she added.

Her remarks quickly became a talking point on X, where users expressed differing opinions about her stance. Several users defended Grace, arguing that her boundaries should not be up for public debate.

One user wrote, “The amount of people upset about this is weird…if she’s not comfortable with doing n*de or se*ual scenes at the age of 20, that’s fine.”

Another person supported her decision, particularly given her background as a child performer, writing:

“Good for her. Especially coming from a child-actress background, she gets to decide what she’s comfortable with.”

Others, however, questioned whether Grace should have been asked about her willingness to take on such roles in the first place.

One user commented, “Why are we asking this to a 20-year-old who is known for her work as a child? This is weird.”

“It’s so weird that she has to explain not wanting to be na*ed on camera. It’s a creepy world we live in,” another wrote.

The debate soon extended beyond Grace’s decision to avoid intimate scenes, raising broader questions about the expectations placed on performers who grow up in the public eye.

Grace’s latest comments also echo an earlier conversation about her experience filming Regretting You, the 2025 romantic drama in which she starred opposite Mason Thames.

In an October 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress opened up about the challenges of filming an intimate scene for the movie.

She acknowledged that growing up in the industry influenced how she approached the scene.

“That scene was nerve-wracking to shoot for a lot of different reasons, especially coming off of being a child actor, doing that kind of scene,” Grace said.

Despite her initial nerves, Grace explained that she felt comfortable filming the scene because it mattered to the story and her character’s development. Grace described the moment as a turning point for her character, Clara.

Her earlier remarks suggest that Grace has not completely ruled out filming intimate scenes. Instead, her decision appears to depend on the context and whether she is comfortable with the scene’s purpose.

Mckenna Grace also reflected on growing up in Hollywood

In her Cosmopolitan interview, Grace also reflected on the challenges of growing up in Hollywood and navigating the entertainment industry as a young performer.

She also discussed the conflicting expectations placed on child actors, who are often expected to behave like adults while working but are still judged for acting their age.

“As a kid on set, you’re expected to act like an adult until you’re on camera. Then you’re a kid until everybody is mad at you because you’re acting like a kid,” she said.

Her experiences as a child performer appear to have significantly shaped her approach to acting. She added that being an adult has allowed her to take greater creative ownership of her characters and have a stronger voice in the filmmaking process.

Grace is set to appear as twins Maysilee and Merrilee Donner in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which releases on November 20, 2026.

She said no. No means no. She doesn't need to explain it. Anyone who can't or won't understand is dense. Anyone who won't just accept the answer can't be trusted. This would apply regardless of a person's gender, and just because one signs up to be an actress or actor doesn't mean they're required by some kind of law to perform, without question, any act at all that someone else requests or demands. Would they have done this to Katharine Hepburn? Julie Andrews?

Any actor should be able to refuse a roll for what ever reason without backlash. However I do question a society who views violence and gore are acceptable (including in children’s shows) yet nudity and intimacy is too far.

This. I love my real life crime and m****r stuff but have missed out on many shows due to what I deem gratuitous violence. GoT being one and there were some questionable "intimate scenes" too apparently. Sopranos because I never liked mob stuff. And am debating whether or not to get into Peaky Blinders.
