Matty Healy shared his thoughts on Taylor Swift’s new tracks, which fans are convinced were written by the Grammy-winner singer about The 1975 frontman.

Only days have passed since Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, was released, and it has already become the most-streamed album in a single week on Spotify.

“On April 22, 2024, Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single week. The album has surpassed 1 Billion streams since release,” the music-streaming platform said in a tweet.

While thousands of fans across the world have listened to her tracks, it turns out Matty may not have pressed play on the Cruel Summer singer’s latest tunes.

The 35-year-old band member was recently filmed by paparazzi in L.A. on Wednesday, April 24, and he was asked about whether he gave the “Taylor diss track” a listen.

“My diss track? Oh!” Matty replied when asked to rate the track.

The British singer said he’s “sure” it’s good even though he has yet to hear it.

“I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good,” he said before continuing on his way.

Fans had mixed reactions to his response, with one saying on Facebook: “Oh he has absolutely listened.”

“Smart man. He’s moved on and is happy,” one thought, while another said, “He loves himself. You know he listened.”

“Pretty sure he knew a song would be written about him the minute he started dating her,” another added.

Taylor and Matty first sparked romance rumors in 2014. It was about a decade later that the pair appeared to have a short-lived romance in the spring of 2023 after her split from long-time lover and actor Joe Alwyn.

Soon after Taylor dropped her 11th studio album on April 19, fans and die-hard Swifties immediately began churning out theories about the meanings layered into the Love Story singer’s lyrics.

Songs like loml, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) are from The Tortured Poets Department

Some believe the lyrics from the titular track, The Tortured Poets Department, might also be a reference to Matty, as Taylor sings: “You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the Tortured Poets Department / I think some things I never say / Like, ‘Who uses typewriters anyway?’”

Matty spoke about using typewriters in a 2019 interview with GQ. “I really like typewriters as well. I don’t have one with me because that is impractical, but the thing with typewriters and writing with pen to paper, there’s an element of commitment that goes with the ceremony with it,” he told the outlet. “It therefore forces you to concentrate a bit better.”

The lyrics of the song loml also appear to be about someone who reappeared in her life after they met as “kids.”

“Who’s gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway?” she sings in the song.

Other songs, such as The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can), also appeared as digs at Matty to some fans.
