Planning a trip with friends can be a great way to spend quality time together
Finding time to see your friends can feel like an impossible task as an adult. Even if nobody has children and you all live in the same city, it can become a logistical nightmare.
According to a 2022 survey, the majority of adults in the United States want to see their friends at least four times each month. And three-quarters of Americans believe that having a great time with friends can be just as healing as therapy.
However, 31% of those surveyed admitted that they don’t get to see their besties as often as they’d like to, potentially because of how difficult it can be to find free time that aligns. That’s why planning a trip with your closest friends can be a great way to squeeze in plenty of quality time in only a few days. The logistics of said trip can be extremely complicated, though.
If it requires taking time off from work, everyone will have to coordinate with their colleagues to ensure that they can be away. And if you need to book flights, you’ll have to make sure that there are enough seats left for everyone on the same plane.
When it comes to planning a trip with friends, The Travel Psychologist recommends first deciding what you hope to get out of the trip. Do you want to sightsee all day? Or would you rather relax by the beach? Is it an opportunity to catch up with your friends or to try new experiences together?
It’s wise to make sure that everyone’s on the same page before making any decisions. This might require some negotiating and working together, but it can really pay off once you all figure out exactly what the best kind of trip will be for everyone involved.
But not all friends are compatible to travel together
Another important factor to consider early on is whether or not these are the kinds of friends you should be traveling with at all. Just because you’ve been besties since high school or you have an incredible time going out on the town together doesn’t mean that you will be compatible spending a weekend or an entire week together in a new place.
CNBC warns that if you and a friend have different priorities and different budgets, you’re probably not going to enjoy going on vacation together. One person might want to grab fast food while the other will be upset if they don’t dine in a nice restaurant. And if you can’t agree on which sites to see, at least one person will feel disappointed with their experience.
It’s also important that both people are okay with solo activities, in case you decide to split up and do your own thing. One person can head to a park while the other visits an art museum, and you can meet up later to discuss what you saw. This system can work out perfectly, as long as you’re both comfortable being alone.
But if you have completely different sleep schedules, interests, and expectations, it might be better to simply find a different travel partner.

If people aren't already annoyed, the cleaning and hiking etc wouldn't be an issue this is about something else. It doesn't sound like the friends are up for discussing it. It sounds like OP wasn't on the same wavelength to start with - is this a hiking or drinking stay? Maybe first few days more socializing then get some hikes in? In any case he's not being included in the planning or he isn't listening to what they want. These are friends from high school, maybe back off and on the next trip just plan for being social for a few days and then go separately and be active.
Yeah, I'd like to hear their side of the story. Sounds like OP might be the problem here and unable to acknowledge it.
