Mythical Beasts: Photographer Captures The Majestic Beauty Of Maine Coons
1.3Mviews
Let photographer Robert Sijka introduce you to Maine Coons - domesticated big cat breed that sure will leave you in awe. These fluffy cats are basically the closest thing to a lynx that you can share your home with, without worrying too much about your well-being.
Sijka always saw Maine Coon cats as majestic, almost mythical, not overly cute cats and now he came up with a way to share that image with the rest of us: "My passions are cats and photography, I do my best to combine these two things as good as possible," the photographer shares on his website. And he managed to combine those passions perfectly in his royal-like Maine Coon cat photo series.
He got the inspiration from a "photo of Dolce Vita and De La Loo - two of the most majestic black Maine Coon kittens photographed beautifully on a simple black background," Robert told Cat Behaviourist. And ever since that moment, he was creating these mesmerizing portraits himself.

I think I would always be half expecting to hear him say something profoundly wise rather than just *meow*
I haven't seen a coon cat as close as these! They are truly majestic creatures! The resemblance with the lion is so remarkable impressive! I have been a cat lover all my life, they make a house a home in my book. Thank you so very much for sharing these beautiful creatures with us, and the photography of a true professional! Very talented!
I had a Maine Coon. Duke. He was the best cat This photo is a copy of a copy before digital. Image-2-57...badc52.jpg
I think its the colors are or seem more profound, and the tuffs of hair just sets the face PERFECT OH HECK, I JUST LOVE THEM .
These are the best companions. We had two, our Sasha lived with us for 21 wonderful years and actually went into mourning when her litter mare Misha died.
One of my favorite musicals is CATS. After viewing these beautiful photos, I believe I now know Old Deuteronomy's breed. "In [T.S.] Eliot's original poem, Old Deuteronomy is described as an ancient, wise cat who has "lived many lives in succession" and is respected by the other cats and humans (and perhaps even dogs) in his environment."~ Wikipedia
Wow! You have captured these lovely felines in all their regal glory. Thank you.
This is my Minky, a male black Maine Coon who was only 4 weeks old in this picture. He is now 13 months old. Gotta love those ear tips! 116A8910-5...0e17e3.jpg
Wanted to add that Minky has is own Facebook page.....Minky The Black Maine Coon. Baby-Minky...7de1b2.jpg
They are beautiful cats, but none of them look like our "TuTu", who was a full blooded Maine Coon.
Some of the European lines have this look, the more square jaws, long oblique and closer set ears.

He's got such an expressive face! You'd almost think by looking at him that he's part Lynx!
In the next blockbuster fantasy movie, I want to the character who is assigned to carry all the culture's wisdom to be presented as a Maine Coon. Instead of Yoda. Yoda was ok, but no one will talk back to one of these guys!
My dad found a litter of stray kittens a number of years ago. He never saw the mom so he assumed they were abandoned. He took them to the shelter and kept one himself. It turned out that they were maincoon kittens. The girl we kept weighs a bit over 15 lbs and looks a lot like the grey car pictured here but with a pointier face.
Adorable Coons, my shorthaired Coon mix Thori´s daddy looked like them, was a tabby Coon, or is - don´t know if he´s still alive because I adopted Thori at the age of almost 6 in May of 2013 from his former owners, and they had got him from a family who lived about 150 miles away from here.....
indeed they're fabulous, but breeding must not be encouraged; rather outlawed. Thank you.
These are beautiful photos Robert, you have shown this breed in its true nature, they are amazing.
My aunt's Maine coon, Kipper, who has since died. :( 481122_102...218a9d.jpg
The one that I had was a male who was de-clawed by his previous holder. I don't remember the circumstances of how I cam to have him in my household, but he was quite incredible as a family member. But he shed so bad and needed grooming perpetually. When he came into my house in Waukesha, WI, he was afraid of everyone because the other people wanted to "make him theirs". I knew that the last thing that a feline wants is for YOU to come to HIM. So I didn't chase him. I just watched him from afar and, lo and behold, one night he leaped into my lap and then I could never keep him away from me. THAT is not totally desirable! But because he was de-clawed, he never inflicted claw marks on me, which every other cat that I ever had did, but he LIKED to play and BITE! He even baited me to play with him! But during the time he was in my household, I had lots of bites and tooth marks on my hands for years. Yet a more affectionate cat I have never had! Most cats are affectionate a lot!
I have a half maine coon and he is such a stinker, he was a stray but now he is a lush and sleeps on my bed, he claws like the devil because he is so strong, he doesn't know his own strength but I love him so much. And same as you, I had to let him come to me and we will be friends until the end.

All these photos are just outstanding. I'm a Siamese lover but these big fellows could hook me fast.
These are all beautiful Coons, beautifully photographed. My MC is a brown tiger, with solid black along his spine and on his paws, and orange ruff and tummy. I spend a lot of time marveling at his beauty. He's not just a pretty face - he is quite smart and very talkative. I'll bet this one and all the others pictured have lots going for them too! Enjoyed the gallery immensely... thanks.
Meet Amelie, my lovely mainecoon (@ameliethefox on Instagram)! sousouni-2...bddd2f.jpg
