Have you ever asked for a favor? Of course you have. There’s nothing wrong with that, or looking for a better deal, or hoping someone can help you out. Although sometimes a simple request turns into an endless list of demands… I hope it isn’t your case.
People online have long been fascinated by the concept of “choosing beggars,” especially when someone asks for a favor, gets an offer, and somehow still finds a reason to ask for more. The internet is full of conversations where a simple request quickly turns into a negotiation neither side expected.
Apparently, “free” can be surprisingly complicated. Spoiler alert: it isn’t. But some of these people manage to turn a generous offer into a negotiation, a favor into a full-service package, or a simple yes into a request for five more things. Honestly, some of these conversations just deserve to be framed.

I play piano and organ in a band. I can't even count how many times I've been asked to play a wedding ceremony, or a private cocktail party FOR FREE as a favor to "a friend". I don't do solo gigs, I don't need or want the money. I just hate spending my free time lugging around keyboards and amps and dressing up for your private function.

There is a VERY short list of people I will lend money to knowing they'll pay me back. Even with family get something in writing, or don't part with money you can't afford to not get back because some people will just take the money and run no matter what you've agreed to verbally! Not blaming the guy trying to get his $7k back as he seems to have had the best of intentions.

I happen to know that Timmies can be ordered through DoorDash and Skip the Dishes in the Greater Toronto Area, delivered to your door, no begging for rides necessary. I am no longer a Tim's patron and there are multiple locations within walking distance from my house if I were (For me, buying coffee from a chain that has a current partnership with JK Rowling versus buying coffee from the independent Trans-owned café in my neighbourhood is a no-brainer; if you're in TO, I recommend checking out Understory Toronto!), but we did order a few times during COVID lockdown, long before the matter of transphobia-enabling donuts.
