Trigger warning: this article contains graphic details that may be distressing to some.

Joseph Duggar was arrested on March 18 on felony child m**estation charges in Florida and has reportedly been charged with lewd and lascivious m**estation of a victim under 12, as well as lewd and lascivious conduct by a person 18 or older.

The charges stem from a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, where a victim, now 14, alleged that Joseph inappropriately touched her on multiple occasions.

While staying at a residence on Danny Drive in Panama City Beach, Joseph allegedly asked the child repeatedly to sit on his lap and, on one occasion, asked her to sit beside him on a couch.

Joseph then covered them with a blanket and “manipulated the victim’s underwear.”

Authorities further alleged that he engaged in inappropriate physical contact, including touching intimate areas and placing his hands on her thighs, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

The victim later told authorities that the a**sive behavior stopped after Duggar allegedly apologized to her.

Moreover, investigators stated that Duggar reportedly “admitted his actions” during a phone call with the victim’s father that was monitored by Tontitown Police Department detectives.

Yesterday, legal proceedings in the case began, marking Duggar’s first court appearance. He is being represented by attorney Albert Sauline.

Reportedly, the 31-year-old formally pleaded not guilty to all charges, despite previous reports suggesting a confession.

He waived his arraignment and demanded a jury trial in a written request submitted prior to the hearing.

In the courtroom, his lawyer stated, “[Joseph’s] asking to be treated as fairly as anyone else, regardless of his status in the television industry.”

The defense also requested “the most reasonable bond,” citing that “he has no criminal history whatsoever.”

Meanwhile, the prosecutor requested a “substantial bond,” arguing, “We ask there be a no contact in place with the victim, as well as no contact with any minors.”

“While he doesn’t have a criminal history and no ties to the community… he was on vacation and stayed here a short period of time.”

Upon hearing both sides, presiding judge Tracy Smith reportedly set Duggar’s bond at $600,000 and imposed several additional strict conditions regarding his contact with minors and his own children.

Judge Smith broke down the total bond into two amounts, ordering $500,000 for the first-degree felony charge of lewd and lascivious conduct involving a victim under 12, and $100,000 for the charge of lewd and lascivious conduct by a person aged 18 or older.

The judge further told Duggar, “Sir, you are also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with any minors under the age of 18.”

This condition includes Duggar’s four young children, whom he shares with his wife, Kendra Duggar, as well as his two youngest siblings.

He was also barred from having any contact with the alleged victim, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Reacting to the latest update in the case, one netizen wrote, “Good on the judge for issuing a high bail, however why is a pe**phile given bail at all? They’re a danger to society, and in this creeps case it runs in the family. Investigate them all!”

Following a home inspection of the residence where Joseph lives with his wife and their four children, Duggar is now facing additional charges

Another user commented, “Treat him as fairly as he did the children he violated and let him plead for status and fairness in prison.”

“Not shocked, but a little shocked that they are allowing him to go back to Arkansas. I wonder where he will stay,” remarked a third user.

Following the hearing, Duggar posted bond and was released to return to Arkansas while awaiting his next court date, an arraignment scheduled for April 20.

Apart from these charges, he and his wife have also been charged with four counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree false imprisonment.

These stem from a local investigation into their household that was launched after his arrest.

During the home inspection, investigators allegedly found that “door locks [were] on the exterior of the [children’s bedroom] doors,” raising serious child safety concerns.

“The not guilty plea is weird. He admitted his actions. How can he plead not guilty?” questioned one social media user
