50 Random Animal Facts That Are So Fascinating You Might Lose Track Of Time Reading Them All (New Pics)
If you’re the kind of person who spends your weekend mornings or afternoons with a wildlife documentary in the background, this might be the perfect list for you. It seems like the animal kingdom never runs out of fun, cool facts to fascinate us, but that’s a good thing — we wouldn’t ever dream of complaining about learning more and more about Mother Nature's quirks.
Bored Panda visited the “Wonders of the Wild” Instagram page and found the most delightful tidbits about animals, plants, and every other organism that falls somewhere in between. Learn more about a baby hippo named “Little Bread Roll,” why bumblebees shake their heads, and how a 134-year-old turtle just became a dad below!

And yet people still believe that fish are primitive creatures who don't have an emotional life or any form of sentience.
"I can't believe I ate the who-o-o-ole thing." (If you're a '50's kid in the U. S., you know where this came from. 😉)
It's more common for rice farmers to use fish instead of pesticides (or ducks) in their fields.
Adult hippos can run very fast. I suspect baby hippos can, too. Some years ago, I had the pleasure of watching a baby rhino running around near their mum for the sheer joy of running. Cute little thing - only, if it had happened to have run into me head first, I suspect I'd've suffered breakages. Even baby rhinos are heavy, fast, and tough. (of course I wasn't in the enclosure - it's just that you do wonder about these things)
Ravens can alert wolves to food, while wolves’ powerful jaws help open carcasses that the birds can feed from.
Their relationship can go beyond simply finding food, too. Ravens have been observed playing around wolf packs, and researchers believe individual birds may even form lasting bonds with particular wolves.
And the raven's like, "Ok, the carcass is 3 trees down on the left side."
You can get a helmet on your cat without damage to yourself? Inconceivable!!
There was a tv show 20 or so years ago that showed what would happen to the Earth if people all left or were eliminated. Looked just like this in some places. Others were taken over by swamps, forests, etc. The Earth reclaimed itself. Very cool!
How come I've never seen this in a nature documentary? Lives in and near the Bering strait. The colour is genuine, not enhanced.
There's no learning involved. It's just what trees do in persistent strong winds.
Inside a watermelon, the seeds are scattered throughout the juicy flesh, creating a chaotic but effective strategy for spreading reproduction wherever the fruit is eaten.
Melons, on the other hand, tend to centralize their seeds in a more organized cavity, making them easier to collect or discard depending on the eater. Both designs work perfectly in nature’s eyes, one is tidy, the other is “maximum distribution mode,” proving that evolution doesn’t always aim for neatness, just survival success.
Seriously? This is the level of "facts" that our ai overlords have decided we will settle for? We are truly doomed.
Notice how they tuck their long neck in close to their body in flight. I have a hunch that this is also what pterosaurs looked like in flight.
Parrots are incredibly good at copying sounds, which apparently becomes a problem when five of them start copying each other’s worst behavior. At a zoo, five parrots were separated after they began swearing at visitors and then laughing, creating what sounds less like a bird enclosure and more like five friends encouraging each other to misbehave.
The funniest part is that the parrots weren’t just repeating the words, they were apparently laughing along with them. Once they started egging each other on, the zoo decided some social distancing was necessary. Even the birds have discovered that putting five troublemakers together is rarely a good idea.
IIRC, the "crabeater" seal doesn't eat crabs much. "Mostly Antarctic krill – not crabs! Fish, squid, and other marine invertebrates make up a small part of their diet.”
More ai I'm afraid. Don't look at the cutesy-pie giraffe, look at the straw.
Can you call someone a 'writer' when they lift material from Instagram without any fact checking and leave shoddy and obvious ai and huge grammmatical mistakes?
