Instagram vs. Reality has been a hot topic lately. With so many people working their butts off trying to make it as influencers, it’s fairly common that some of them seek a competitive edge by altering their appearances. Gotta reach that wider audience. However, what are the dominating social media beauty standards these wannabes are trying so desperately to reach? Well, blogger Cassey Ho might have the answer to this question.

“For 2 weeks I analyzed the top 100 most followed female Instagrammers and came up up with 22 attributes for each woman to be judged on,” she wrote presenting her study. “After a couple of weeks of gathering data and categorizing data, I can tell you that there is most definitely a formula and a very specific beauty standard that the Top 100 most followed women on Instagram adhere to. It’s fascinating, but also incredibly eerie in a time when you would think social media has evend the playing field for women of all body types, sizes, ethnicities, and skin color.”

The attributes that Cassey looked into were lip size, nose size, hair color, hair length, neck length, face shape, chest size, etc. “I wanted to see how the beauty standards of today’s era have changed, if at all.”

“I think that when you start seeing someone with a ton of followers look a certain way, and then you see a bunch of people with a ton of followers look a certain way, you begin to associate popularity, fame, and like-ability with that look. So, it’s only natural for someone to also want to look that way if they want to gain more followers, aka our generation’s currency for success,” Cassey told Bored Panda.

“I find it interesting that being blonde and blue-eyed is no longer the desired beauty ideal, according to Instagram,” she said. “But I also find it interesting that in the era of the most body-positive positive revolution, only 5 of the top 100 most followed female Instagrammers were plus-size. And in the top 10, zero.”

After crunching the numbers, Cassey decided to take it a step further. She teamed up with a few experts and became the ideal influencer, one whose looks were in accordance with her research findings. Of course, shopping for clothes and applying makeup wouldn’t cut it, so she turned to the magic wand internet fakes just can’t live without – Photoshop.

“Actually, it was pretty fun dressing up as an ideal influencer! The most technically challenging part was photoshopping my body to match the ideal standards.”

Cassey said she doesn’t have anything against someone that uses facetune, filters, Photoshop or has had plastic surgery done. “I just think it’s dangerous to create this facade that your body is natural when it’s not,” she explained. “It gives other girls and women a false sense of insecurity. So if you got plastic surgery, don’t be afraid to share that info if someone asks. This will help fight the promotion of unrealistic body ideals.”

“Also on another note, the more that we women can focus on our skills, our talents, and our minds, then the less we will become obsessed with our looks. True, unmatched beauty comes from confidence radiating from inside of us anyway!”

People had a lot to say about this

I have had severe self esteem problems, but when I got instagram, they got so severe that eventually I tried to end it all. I'm still not happy with my looks today, but honestly, those accounts are designed to make you feel bad. today, Im trying to influence on my own terms, trying to make my self esteem greater and build my self confidence

I don't understand this phenomenon at all. I could never wear all that make up. I would feel so bad about myself when taking it off and showing my poor flawed self to another human being. Also, in real life, I want to be influenced by people doing good things, being intelligent not by someone whose greatest talent is putting her but out to be photographed.

The point of the article is to show that someone can take a list of prescribed beauty traits and tack them onto themselves via photoshop and makeup to instantly become formulaically pretty.....which is what every influencer and social media fake does on a daily basis. There's nothing new being said or proven here. The article should be renamed 'Phony # 2,356,146 joins Instagram.' If you want to do something important with your influence, then maybe start drawing attention to the frightening fact that influencers are only the most shameless and unapologetic breed of egomaniacs who lead by attraction - politicians wear makeup and CEOs wear toupees. I would like to see more support encouraging people to see through all of this..

I still find it weird that hair and eye color would ever be a factor in determining beauty. Especially since there are plenty of people with blonde hair who are "plain" or "unattractive" looking. Hair color does not determine what your entire face and body will look like obviously.

hi everyone.. I just want you all to know that you don't "need" any of this to be an influencer! You don't need a big butt, a big chest, or a flat stomach. You can have blue eyes, a big nose, and be only five feet tall! There is no such thing as a "perfect body". Everyone's body is amazing as it is, and it doesn't have to be changed! (unless you want it to be). You are free to do what you want with your body, but enjoy it! You all are gorgeous human beings, and all that matters is what is on the inside. :3

All people are beautiful. Someone with more insecurity just hiding under makeup and lens filters and try to show how beautiful they are.. And they do it well., they are beautiful even without make up. But it does not mean that there are no beautiful people outside the internet who may be concerned with the beauty of the soul more than appearance. It is the beautiful people who make anyone standing next to them feel warmth and beauty.

First of all real beauty comes from within, also, being born with good genes helps as well. I don't particularly believe that blondes are phased out, it's up to the individual. Let's look at it this way, I've never followed or taken any interest in the Jenner/ Kardashian tribal family yet for a lot of people out there, they somehow seem to find then all beautiful, where I find them average full of botox, fillers and surgery to look the way they do. Now, doesnt that say something to you? A real beauty doesn't need all that. Take a look at the models over the past 50 yrs, beautiful and uniquely defined makeup, camera filters and lighting is what made them famous and on the covers of magazines etc. In today's world, no second glances made or dropping dead over them. Most if not all are full of injected toxic toxins, duck lips (daffy eat your heart out) add the photoshop, etc and you call this thing beautiful???? No thankyou! I'll stick to the more natural original beauty's.

"o hi everyone.. I just want you all to know that you don't "need" any of this to be an influencer". You kinda do. The top 100 list proves it.

This was stupid, of course, if you look like a model you will get attention. Beautiful people always do...duh!

Why are some men so obsessed with Instagram women? You just don’t want women having influence. Give it a rest.
