I Inherited My Grandmother’s Cat
He’s pretty cool.
I inherited my grandmother's cat too! No regrets at all at stepping up and saving his life except that he was a "sprayer."
I inherited a lot of junk, like hoarder level. But granny also hid money and valuables in it so had to search well. And then an eye fell out of a empty toilet roll. She had lost an eye and used ceramic replacement. I found the spare one and suddenly her eye was staring at me from the table. Spooky.
One of my friends got their cat Miss Jenny this way. She’s a lovely cat, but her noises are the exact opposite of others. Her happy noises are my cats angry noises

The worth in something like this is priceless! Many people won't share their recipes for whatever reason. This is fantastic!
I've never understood why people don't share recipes. I'm always happy to share mine, it means it was good enough for others.
Load More Replies...i did too! it was one of my wedding gifts from her. she became wheelchair bound and couldnt bake or cook anymore and being the oldest grandchild she wanted me to have it. wen my cousin who loves baking got married i copied all my grandmas dessert recipes and gave it to her in a nice recipe box for her wedding gift. wen my other cousin got married i copied all my grandmas vegetarian recipes and did the same for her. i knew exactly which recipes they wanted and didnt want them to feel left out. i fully plan on doing the same for my other 2 cousins once they get married.
Make sure you research the ingedients carefully. Some of the really old recipes may have odd or not produced any more ingredients.
Sentimental values aside, some family heirlooms may make your home feel cluttered. Books collect dust, and furniture with no particular purpose only takes up space.
When dealing with heirlooms, professional organizer Julia Williamson advises prioritizing making good use of them.

My Inheritance: Mom’s Cat Is Here To Stay
TW: parental loss
This is Joey, my Mom’s huge orange cat. He has spent all of his life fat, happy, and an only very spoiled cat.
He’s been here since February but as of last Friday, he’s officially ours. He now has two sisters who are not amused. He also has lost some weight because he likes to play and run around with his new siblings, much to their annoyance.
I arranged my Mom’s Playbills for a photo. Joey came by and sat on her collection. It was his little tribute.
I have 99% of my NYC playbills dating back to the 60s. I recently put them in alphabetical order just in case I wanted to look for something specific, what memories!
Congrats! Looks like a sweet boy. My "I've worked with cats 20 years and have seen a lot" NON judgmental 2 cents: Please try to get Joey's weight down a bit. He's not obese 'yet'. Big is cool, fat is not. Diabetes is a b***h, as are arthritic hips/legs. Heart can also be affected. They're just like us, but don''t feed themselves. Food s medicine. 👍🏼 I hope you have wonderful years together! >•<
Inheriting A 39 Year Old Parrot While 8 Months Pregnant
I made a post a few months ago explaining that my husband’s grandfather had passed away, leaving a 39 year old hello headed Amazon who needed a home and that despite being 8 months pregnant with our first child and having no experience with birds, we had decided to step up and be the family members who brought him home.
Absolutely!! GREAT UPDATE!!! ...... https://www.reddit.com/r/parrots/comments/1fknf5x/update_inheriting_a_39_year_old_parrot_while_8/
Load More Replies...I wondered for the briefest moment but then I realized birds don't get pregnant. 😂
Load More Replies...My friend inherited one from his mother who got it from a mobster in New Orleans. She has an interesting vocabulary.🙂
He looks just like my grandfather's parrot, Charlie, who unfortunately was left outside overnight during the Indian summer when I had moved away for college. The first cold snap of full autumn happened that night and he passed away.
“If there are family letters or photos you love to look at, put them in an album or otherwise make them accessible — using archival materials to keep them safe,” Williamson wrote in an article for Business Insider.
Old paintings and records can be framed and hung on a wall for room decor. As Williamson writes, “Revel in these inherited treasures.”
Ring Originally Belonged To My Husbands Great-Great Aunt. His Grandmother Inherited It, Eventually Passing It To My Husband While We Were Dating Saying, “Either Give This To Op Or Give It Back To Me”
His grandmother never wore the ring and I haven’t changed anything about it since my husband gave it to me two years ago. It’s a bit flashy but I adore it.
The instructions are the highest praise, and I'd treasure that more than the ring. 🙂
Nothing wrong with a flashy piece of jewellery you love, especially when it has been passed down a few generations.
Absolutely beautiful. Take it to a good jewelry for an appraisal if you haven't already and get it insured.
It would be way too flashy for me but with that provenance I would wear the sh!ť out of it. I think it really adds character. It’s quite beautiful
I Am The 4th Woman In The Family To Inherit My Great Grandma’s Wedding Necklace. She Got Married At 15 In 1956 Back Home In Pakistan
22k pakistani gold, one of our family’s many jewellery heirlooms
Certainly has a wonderful history I am fascinated by pieces of gold jewelry that exceed the 18 karat standard in the US. I'm assuming it needs to be handled carefully
Gold remains gold, no matter if it's from Pakistan, Africa or Russia...🤷🏽
Inherited My Dad’s Analog Collection. Kind Of Overwhelmed
I was given my granddad’s old Minolta camera when my mother didn’t want it and was going to throw it away. It’s in my cupboard until I can get it fixed up and use it again
Some face the challenge of picking which items to toss out and which to keep. Instead of keeping everything and being a pack rat, Williamson recommends saving heirlooms that hold great personal importance, are useful, and have historical significance.
If you’re still facing a dilemma, Williamson suggests setting aside boxes and revisiting them after a few months.
“As time goes by, you will realize that the antique train that seemed so special has lost its magic, and it will be easier to let it go,” she wrote.
Inherited This Car
Hello! I know nothing about cars but I recently inherited this beautiful Studebaker. Could anyone tell me the exact year/name of it, and any other info about it? I won’t be holding onto it, but I’d like to be as informed as possible about what I have. Thanks for any reply
1950 Studebaker champion possibly? Yeah just contact the Studebaker museum... They'll help you out
As this is a copy of a reddit post they are not going to see your response. And now BP want to charge us for this

In South Bend Indiana there is the Studebaker Museum. They were they were made in South Bend. I am sure if you contact them, they would be able to help you.
There's a whole lot of Studebaker fans out there loving this car. The collector I knew who had Studebakers said they kept it in storage all year round except on cloudless, sunny days. And he walked around a car he was thinking about buying, holding a small magnet, to check for real metal body parts. Apparently it's easy to make a passable fiberglass part for an old car
"Ah, a bear in his natural environment. A Studebaker."

My Mom Died So I Inherited Her Shih Tzu
My mom recently died of cancer, it happened very quickly. Four years prior, we traveled out of state and we each got a shih tzu. We were so happy with our puppies. At that time, she made me promise I would take her dog if anything happened to her which I was happy to do. I never would have guessed it would happen so soon.
My mom and her dog were inseparable. He followed her everywhere as shih tzu’s do and even went to work with her. He was there when she passed so I hope he has some closure with that. He went from a quiet house with my mom to moving in with my family that consists of my husband, three kids and two other shih tzus. Thankfully, I am a SAHM so I spend a lot of time with him and we go for walks often. It has only been three weeks. He seems pretty confused here but is starting to play and show his personality.
My male shih tzu is not very friendly with him. Growls and sometimes attacks him if he gets too close to me. They both seem to be alpha males so neither back down. My female shih tzu is great with my mom’s dogs but I feel so bad for the little guy and just hope he is happy here. Here’s a picture of my mom’s dog, he is so sweet and well behaved.
Sorry for your loss. Your Mum would be very happy her boy is living and loved by you x
There is no alpha dog. You are the resource and your older dog is protecting his resources (aka you) from the other dogs.
I'm glad you adopted your Mom's doggo. Too many pets end up in shelters after their humans die.
Many younger people today prefer not to inherit family heirlooms from their parents or grandparents. Since some antiques hold little to no value, they are often rejected or disposed of.
In an interview with PBS, Former National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) president Susan Devaney explained that young couples would rather not have “the same things people used to have.”
I Inherited This Watch Recently, Was Told It Was My Great Grandmothers (She Lived 1890-1950). Does Anyone Know What Year It’s From?
Definitely deco, have it evaluated by an expert in antique watches. Don't just go to a regular jeweler, they usually don't know very much about antique pieces. (I've been a dealer in vintage and antique, costume and estate, jewelry for over 30 years)
Understanding watch styles can help you determine a date for Bulova watches made before 1950. Some of the date symbols used on these watches were shared with watches from other decades. For example, the star watches were produced in both 1924 and 1941. Knowing the difference between a 1920s watch and a 1940s watch can help you determine which date (1924 or 1941) a star Bulova was made. Keep in mind that dating a watch by style will only tell you which decade the watch is likely from, not the exact year. Most Bulova watches from the 1920s have a "deco" style common to other fashions and decorations from that decade.
Inherited This Ring From Grandma, Was Told It’s 18k Gold, Diamonds & Rubies. Weighs About 3oz. About 1.5” Wide
Yeah I learned long time ago while yard sale and thrift hunting and everything you should always check out those flashy clunky looking old rings, some of them are very much real metal and Jewel just made for the style back then which we consider too much usually nowadays
That's a stunner! I'd get it valued by a reputable jeweller, then insured fast!
Check Out These Levi's That Belonged To My Mother In The 1970s!! I Totally Over Wear These Pants. Haha
Ultimately, heirlooms are tangible traditions passed down through generations. As Mumford Restoration notes, they bridge the present and the past. It’s all a matter of keeping those that matter the most.
Inherited This Guitar
I recently inherited this guitar and I’d like to learn more about it. I haven’t been able to find a name on it a brand I think it might be custom-made. What do you think?
That's pretty awesome. Is there a label inside the body? That's usually where the maker info is. And that is definitely mother of pearl.
I don't think it'll be enamel, it's probably mother-of-pearl inlays.
Load More Replies...As an guitar player for +40 years I agree - this is a custom job from a luthier, not a big company. Which also makes it unique.
Definitely a custom-made instrument. Nylon strings mean it was either likely used for either classical or flamenco music.
Look in the hole with a camera or flashlight. Sometimes that's the only place you'll find a maker's mark.
My Daughter Wearing Her Great-Great-Grandmother’s Wedding Dress
This is my great grandmother's wedding dress from 1916 Mabel-Wall...2-jpeg.jpg
This is my great, great, great (I think) grandma's wedding dress from 1879 Liz-Hudson...f-jpeg.jpg
Can you imagine the hours and hours of embroidery and lace-making for this beautiful outfit?
Great-Great-Grandma was tiny! Then again, my Slovene Grandmother and my Grandfather (also Slovene), who immigrated to the US in 1909 and 1910 respectively, were short. Grandma was about 410", and Grandpa was about 5'3". Grandma was also very slender in her wedding picture from 1912, so I guess it's to be expected that long ago. Odd thing, these were my father's parents, and he shot up to 6'1", and his sister, my aunt, was around 5'6", so I guess the better diet and living conditions in the US, compared to the peasant living under the Hapsburgs (Slovenia was part of Austria-Hungary back then), fed the tall gene and the first generation born here were way taller than their parents.
I love traditional clothing, it has so much more character and meaning than mass market stuff.
Beautiful! She must have been tiny for a young girl to be able to fit it! Priceless treasure!
People are on here talking about how great grandma was tiny when it's very likely great grandma was not much older than what the girl is here. People were getting married at 14 and 15 those days. My own great grandma was married and pregnant by 16.
Inherited This From My Grandmother. Would This Make For A Good Engagement Ring?
Do not leave it with just any jeweler. Many steal old diamonds and replace them. Get it appraised elsewhere first and checked out again afterwards.
This is very true. They will replace diamonds with less quality ones.
Load More Replies...I think it would make a great engagement ring but these are very personal so I'd consult with the fiance. Maybe remounting would personalize it enough.
No! Do not change it! What makes it so special is the entire ring. I wear my great grandmother’s ring as my wedding ring and my husband wears his grandfather’s wedding ring.
Load More Replies...That's a very valuable diamond ring. Please take care of it, and never let anybody change it. It loses value the minute anything's done to it for starters, and the whole inheriting is just so special. Fabulous engagement ring!
get the appraisal from a trusted jeweler. Have it cleaned, secure the settings and get it insured.

My Inheritance From My Stepdad
I inherited two things from my beloved step dad, his dog who’s the best boy, and his Yuka Tree.
While his family cleared the house I left the tree as it was rather heavy and we needed to move some furniture first. It’s been a couple days and his family have moved a lot of the furniture out and left the plant outside his house for me to go get and I’ve come to find it and it seems someone decided to pull all its leaves off. I’m not sure if it was malicious or kids in the area, I just hope they grow back.
Good for you not only for rehoming dad's dog (❤️ )but also for the plant. So many people just toss plants at the side of the road. But they're living creatures too. I adopted a number of plants from elderly relatives, yes it's work for me, and I've had to learn an awful lot about house plant care, but whenever I water them or trim them or just enjoy them or talk to them, I think of my relatives.
Kudos to you for your concern, a special place in heaven for you
Load More Replies...probably. they said they aren't a plant person, plus they are in UK so spelling is sometimes different. It's also probably not an actual Yucca, but a dracena of some sort.
Load More Replies...I'm glad you kept doggo. Too many pets end up in shelters after their humans pass.
The leaves will grow back, with a bit of TLC you'll have a beautiful plant. Oh how sad are that boy's eyes, poor boy won't understand what's happened to his person. He needs lots of TLC too., glad he's got his teddy to comfort him.

This Cat That Inherited The Tabby Pattern And Color Only On Its Head
It's a kitten, his coloration may deepen as he gets older. Happens a lot with light colored kittens.
yup. It's a kitten, you never know quite what they will look like when mature.
Load More Replies...I have a gray kitty who only has stripes, very faintly, on her butt. The rest of her is solid gray. Your kitty is lovely.
Looks like it has a fever Coat (Mom had a fever during pregnancy, which causes the kittens to have a gray coat, called fever coat). If that's tge case it'll grow out of it.
Inheriting My Stanley Thermos
My dad died very unexpectedly almost 3 months ago now. This was his Stanley thermos that's somewhere around 20 years old and in basically perfect condition. I've always wanted one of my own and have been on the lookout at garage sales and thrift stores. Now it's mine, and it's bittersweet but it's a nice memory that will be around forever.
Now whenever you enjoy a hot beverage out of this thermos, you can think of your dad :) (❤️)
Now see, to me, THIS is the best inheritance. It's personal, it's something he used, and it's something you wanted.
People rip on Stanley cups these days, but imo, it couldn't have happened to a better company!!
I have one I've had since about 1978, and it is still a great thermos. Mine is a bit scratched up, because it was knocked partway into a drydock in Philadelphia by a yard worker who wanted the middle of the gangway and wouldn't yield to me. His foreman saw him shove me aside, saw my thermos go flying, and also his hardhat. Foreman made him go clock out, come back with a hardhat, get my thermos and deliver it to the quarterdeck watch for me, and go all the way down into the drydock to get his own hardhat back. On his own time. Total took him about an hour. My sweet tea in the thermos was unfazed by the trip. Foreman apologized to me for the incident. Never saw the guy on my ship again.
My Grandmothers Monstera She Inherited From Her Mother In 86. It Is Well Over 50-Years Old
My aunt has a Hibiscus plant that is supposedly over 70 years old. So cool!
Here I was thrilled to have a 22 year old peace lily! This is just amazing!
My Peace Lily is about 25, and desperately needs re-potting, but flowers for me every summer. Love it!
Load More Replies...Back home on the farm, we had an old, immense lilac bush that had been there god knows how long. It was there when I was a kid in the 50s. Sometime in the early 2000's, it was severely damaged by an ice storm. My brother salvaged the parts broken off and actually managed to get some lilac *boards* about three inches wide, somewhat thin in thickness. He took them to our cousin, a cabinetmaker-grade carpenter and asked him if he could guess what they were. He was astounded on being told they were lilac. I believe they were planning to have him make a unique jewelry box.
I've got a 50 year old plant but I've never been able to find out what it is!
I love posts like this. I got my grandma's ficus when she died. My mother said to throw it away. It is well over 2m now and for +15 years in our living room. And seeing it, I remember my grandma, ha ha.
Wow that's a big plant. It wouldn't survive in my house, I have horrible luck with plans and gave up years ago. Now that we have 2 dogs I wouldn't even chance it.
We Inherited A Cat... His Name Is Pumpkin But We Also Call Him Pig Cat
He's so handsome, please don't call him that ... call him by his name or give him a new name but call him something nice.
I had one named SassyFats. Sassafras was her given name. She wasn't fat, just huge.
Load More Replies...I know his weight is not your fault, now you have the chance to make him a happier, more active puss by helping him lose some of that weight. Good luck!
He's a beautiful boy, but he's a bit too chunky! I think he may need a bit of a diet!
My Great Grandma Millie’s Best Dress. I Wish I Could Ask Her More About It. Would Not Be Surprised If It Were Handmade
look carefully at the seams and hems ro ask a local tailor. I'm betting it's handsown. I have the handsewn silk bed jacket tha is 77 years old. My husband's grandmother made it for his mon while she was pregnant with my husband. Complete with attached handstitched crochet lace around the collar.
Wow! I could totally see this being worn now. In fact I think I saw something similar at anthropology.
IT SHOULD BE EXTREMELY EASY TO TELL IT IS HOMEMADE !!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL DRESS
Anyone Know Anything About This Box I Inherited?
Very heavy bronze with silver plate.
The box is a jewellery casket, designed by the Austrian sculptor, Gustav Gurschner, one of the most important names associated with the Art Nouveau movement. His works are in museums across Europe and the USA and are highly sought after by collectors. The box should have a 'GURSCHNER' maker's mark somewhere, and will be worth several thousand dollars. I hope the owner hasn't tried to polish it with anything more than a soft, dry cloth since taking the photo, because if that patina is removed it will also remove about 90% of the resale value.
It came from the chamber of secrets, used to be guarded by a three headed dog named Fluffy.
First, cast 'Detect Trap', 'Detect Magic', and 'Detect Curse'. Not necessarily in that order.
Check it for identifying marks / maker's mark on the bottom or everywhere really. Beautiful handle.

I don’t know how much it’s worth and I’m getting it appraised soon, but would love some of yalls experience
Feminine? No. A little out of the ordinary? Depends on your style. Should you wear it anyway if you want to, regardless of the aforementioned? YES!
It's all subjective. It might be a bit feminine, but some of us find that sexy so who cares? David Bowie would wear it and that's good enough. ;)
Wear it if you want it, regardless of what others think. If you feel that it might be too, well, whatever, you can turn it into an heirloom family wedding tiara. Or a bracelet. Or you can keep it like it is and pass it on to the next generation.
When in doubt, throw on a leather vest and ripped Levi’s!❤️

Mazel tov on the birth of your son! My daughter has inherited my Elven ear (on the same side); my son's is on the other.
You have more problems than that with your feet. Your big toes are pushing the others to the side. You could also find out if the joined toes will cause any problems later for you or your baby.
Semi relevant, my dog has conjoined toes on all four feet and his toe beans are heart shaped. Doesn't slow the beggar down at all!
I Inherited This. What Would You Do?
This was my father's home, back half built in 1873 and front half built in 1906. I grew up here, but it's gone several decades without proper maintenance. What would you do, knowing that it's owned free and clear?
You can't tear down that kind of history unless you have no other choice. If it were me I would do everything in my power to restore it.
Have it evaluated to see if it is salvageable and if it is and if you have the money, fix it up. ,
The first thing to do is get a good, thorough inspection for the foundation, termites, structural soundness, etc. and then decide. A renovation loan for less monthly cost than you are already paying for a home or apartment might be a good investment.
And, I would def have the plumbing checked. Could have led pipes, and there could also be asbestos through out.
Load More Replies...I don't know why Ppl downvote you. I don't think it's a particulary beautiful house and it would Cost a lot of money to Restore it. Costs should be compared with Building a new one. I love old houses but this one is not really amazing
Load More Replies...restore it. its a nice sized house and with a bit of a clean up it can b easily liveable. some things u can possibly do urself. id get professionals to check out if the wiring and plumbing is up to code. wen i was a kid my parents bought a very old house. we did renovations and found out the wiring was very old and not considered standard or up to code same with some of the plumbing. they had to rewire most of the house and redo all the plumbing. i remember asking about the wiring and the electrician said the wiring from the new rooms we were adding wouldnt play nice with the old wiring. he also explained all the electronics we had r and the new lights put in by the previous owner r y outlets blow out easily. i later learned the old wiring is y we lost power every time we had a rain storm
Just because the outside looks in need of help doesn't mean it's not salvageable. Needs a major inspection. Can almost guarantee that the outside has lead paint and will have to be remediated by professionals. Have all paint inside AND outside checked. Plan on replacing the electrical and plumbing to bring them up to code. Have foundation and the actual structure checked, as well as the roof (shingles and what's under it). Old houses can be money pits if you're not prepared. If saving it is not an option, consider rebuilding on the same site. It's still family land

Load More Replies...Inherited This Insane Ring From My Great Great Aunty. How Old Is It?
I need help finding information on this kind gift as I know very little about it. I've tried myself but didn't get anywhere. She was born in 1912, and lived around Bolton, UK all her life. The note was in the bag with the ring, describing the '69 diamonds' inlaid in Platinum. This description has been cut out of a bigger piece of paper - possibly the receipt? The scribbles where there when I got it.
It seems well made as all of the diamonds are flush with the ring (I literally know nothing lol). I'm terrified of wearing it in case I lose one.
Take it to Jeweler and see if they can tell you about it what it is it worth.
Several jewelers... for a well rounded opinion. I don't know if appraisals cost anything.
Load More Replies...If you have a jeweler tighten the stones, it is a very safe setting. Worth a very pretty penny too I would bet. Take it to a jeweler who specializes in antique diamonds. What an unusual, stunning ring!!!
You can also ask the jeweler to check the diamond settings to make sure the diamonds are in there good and tight. Look for a jewelry store that isn't a chain (Mall type) and make sure they have an experienced jeweler. Good luck... it's gorgeous.
If this was assayed in the UK there will be markings inside letting you know where and when it was assayed and the exact make up of the metal. It's essentially a registration letter for the year and an anchor or something else for the assay office. Check it then Google..
Good idea. Assuming it was sold in the UK (which is likely if she was from Bolton pre-airliners) then it would have UK marks or couldn't be legally sold.
Load More Replies...Take it to Antiques Road Show. I think a lot of modern jewellers wouldn't know the value of the piece as an antique, rather than just a piece of jewelry.

Grandfather was an airline captain, circa 1960’s. According to my grandmother, the bracelet was a custom made silver piece that weighs about a pound. Make sure you find someone who deals in antique watches to do the alteration or else it may get ruined. The North American Watch & Clock Collectors association should be able to help.
Cool, obscure brand. It was a status symbol among pilots, mariners and explorers. Byrd wore a Nivada Grenchen on a trip to the South Pole.
Contact Croton Watch co, they can tell you. I got my son's Croton watches for Christmas several years ago, it was a great deal to that I couldn't pass up. One son did have to send his to them in NY for a repair that took a long time. They sent him a letter explaining the delay but I can't remember what it said.
You can have a good jeweler polish the glass and easily swap a good quality leather strap.

hold on to it, store it in a secure garage until you are more experienced as a driver and a comsumer. This car will attract the attention of police (expecially as a teenager who don't always obey the rules of the road) as well as attractiving thieves. It is a beautiful rememberence of your father.
Do not take it to a 'Cars & Coffee' event until you are very comfortable with the car. Just kidding, but there do seem to be a number of wrecked Mustangs around those events.
Not a good car for a 17 yo, the insurance is going to kill your mother. That car has a lot of power so be super careful when driving it, that thing can get you into a world of trouble.
Inherited My Mother’s Favorite Ring. Thoughts?
Is it vintage and cool or look outdated? Anyone have any insight on the design/style?
It's vintage and cool as well as looks outdated, but who cares? If it's OP's mom's favorite ring, wear it everyday!
Who cares what other people think about the ring! Does the OP like it? Does it have significance to them? They should wear it every day.
Load More Replies...Shouldn't matter if it's dated or vintage. All that matters is that you like it. Not my preference but it's a stunner for sure.
If it's not your style, have the stones reset. I will inherit my grandmother's smoky topaz ring someday, as I'm the only other November birthday. Personally,, not my style. Plan to make into a necklace. Still honors her but this way I'll actually wear it
I can only imagine people complimenting OP on the ring and being interested in it's history. Wear it!
Yes it's dated but that is it's appeal!!!! It will be back in style in a few years anyway! Beautiful!!!
From Great Aunt’s Inheritance
Given this interesting bracelet with some sort of image in the center. Any ideas about it? Thanks for your time. And if this is not the correct place to post please let me know.
It's an antique slide bracelet. Wonderful piece, looks like gold and gemstones. You need to find a dealer in vintage and antique jewelry. I know that portrait, I just can't dredge the name of the woman out of my memory. It's not Queen Victoria and it's not Empress Ellisabeth of Austria.

I Inherited my Grandfathers Omega Geneve (late 1960’s). He wore it every day on the farm and it was in pretty rough shape when I got it last year.
Some service at a local watchmaker and it’s good as new. Manual wind. Should last another couple of generations
Oh yeah, those manual wind watches are fun. You learn how to wind it just enough, not too much, and to do it every day at the same time. I think I'd like a watch like that, with a tiny ticking sound to lull me to sleep at night
Inherited A Large Amount Of Comicbooks
I recently inherited a large amount of comic books. Many are from the 1970s. Also some from the 80s and 90s. I’ve been enjoying looking through them but I’m new to it. Are there any holy grail books I should be looking for? Also not sure I can keep them in my limited space. If anyone in Baton Rouge, Louisiana wants to look through them, shoot me a message.
If you have some from the 70's or the 80's some of them could be worth some money.
Be sure that they are being stored properly. Each should be in a plastic bag specifically made to store comics etc. They should be stored upright. Flat is OK, upright is better. They make boxes specifically to hold them. THOSE boxes should be stored in plastic bins and placed on upper shelves to protect from possible water damage. It sounds worse than it is. Most comics come in the bags. And you can use any box, really (just keep them lined up neatly - corners and edges and important for value!). I'd go online and have a look. Any first edition is normally worth more. But when a new character is introduced in a series (oftentimes leading to their own series), that particular edition becomes valuable. Make a list of what you have. Online sources can help you evaluate individual worth, condition, etc. Once you are a bit more knowledgeable, then I'd contact a professional. Anything you think might be fairly valuable, only take to reputable sources . They'll be honest about what it is worth. I'd also try asking if they'd be interested in buying everything if you're not interested in keeping them
I've got some comics from the 70's and 80's, some rare ones like The Shadow
Inherited These Rings From My Great Aunt. They Are Priceless To Me, But Should I Get Them Evaluated?
Don’t know where to start with these rings! Not looking to sell them, but I would love to know more about them in general.
The top 2 rings are marked “900 PLAT” on the inside
The bottom gold ring is marked 14k
The next ring up is obviously broken but still looks nice
I would most definitely get then praised. If they are worth any money, get them insured.
Definitely get them appraised and insured. The stones on the broken ring can be reset into something else.
You are sitting on some SERIOUS value. Those two biggest center stones look enormous. They are undoubtedly platinum need to be insured! Tens of thousands of dollars US.
Platinum is very valuable and you rarely see it sold re: rings. Of course get these rings appraised, cleaned, restored if needed (stones tightened) and if valuable make sure you insure them.
Get them valued by a reputable jeweller! They're all very valuable! And gorgeous rings too. I hope they give you lots of joy.
Inherited This Ring From My Grandpa Over 20 Years Ago. Was Told He Got It While Fighting In Ww2. Any Idea What It Might Be?
This is a pretty cool Italina bezel lion ring, although it's missing diamonds where the eyes are
Many soldiers bought things overseas for prices they would never get at home. Jewelry was a very popular item as it was usually light weight and easily shipped home. Watches and rings were the most popular items purchased
Or...he traded something for it. Who knows? Though it would be awesome if he bumped off a fascist for it.

I “inherited” this coffee grinder when we went remote during COVID.
I realized it was made made before the Berlin Wall fell when I was trying to buy another for a friend who was seeking a replacement. Bonus points it is a fun color.
I grew up with one like this in brown. It was the “brown Braun”, and we got it in the 70s. Last time I saw it (the late 90s), and still worked. I should see of my dad still has it.
Looks like from 1967, if it is the KSM1. So, definitely before 1989. BRAUN is known to be a high quality brand (I am not saying this because I am German). Googling, I found this: "Designed under the supervision of Dieter Rams, the iconic Braun KSM1 coffee grinder provides an excellent balance of function and classic Braun aesthetic. Continuing the simplicity of use, synonymous with Braun’s products, the form of the object is such that even someone with no coffee-grinding experience would find it impossible to mis-use."
The vintage Braun items are actually a thing, some where designed by Rams
My Dad Recently Passed Away And Left Me With All Of His Ham Radio And Testing Equipment. Need Help Identifying Some Items And Their Value
The item in the center - and the open case to the right of it - are Bird wattmeters. The things with arrows in the front row are inserts that go in the "hole" in the wattmeter, to set the scale for the meter.

Inherited Cards From Brother Who Passed Away
Hi Pokémon fans. My brother who was really into Pokémon cards sadly passed away recently and I got more or less all of his possessions.
I tried to make a poster out of the cards I thought looked the coolest but couldn't fit the ones in the thicker plastic, I also don't have much of a clue when it comes to Pokémon. Any tips or recommendations about what to do with them? I can't imagine I'll ever sell them even if they are worth something as I know he loved his cards.
Thanks for any tips! Its much appreciated
I see three holo Charizards that are, if I'm not mistaken, THE most valuable pokemon cards around.
None of them are 1st edition and the reverse holo is from a recent run of "retro" reprints. Still worth a couple hundred each if they get them graded.
Load More Replies...Some Pokémon cards can be worth thousands. If you are keeping them, find out which ones are the best and what they are worth so you can insure them. I have like 5 cards worth $3500 total from when my kids were younger (son is 30 now). Only costs like $10 a month
your display is great. Beautifut tribue to your brother. Memories trump quick cash anytime. perhaps you can make this a family heirloom and pass it on to your or your family members' children, keeping your brother's memory alive.
Find out the value and get them insured if you're going to keep them.
Inherited All These Clubs. What Do I Do?
Inherited all these clubs from my uncle. What’s the best way to unload them (hopefully for $)?
Take the clubs to a pro shop or a sports resale shop but likely they don't have much value.
See if any local schools have golf as a sport and donate them so kids who can't afford their own clubs can participate / have stuff to practice with. This is how we open up the "wealthy" sports for everyone!
Some can be worth money, depending on brand, year, and wear. Look them up. Other than that, I'd donate to a school or kids organization
An Iron Throne-style toilet backdrop would be pretty hilarious

That's not Mayan. It is a mix of styles, modern copies to swindle tourists. I am afraid to say the "curse" is mostly like the money spent on a fake.
Yep. That's all fake. Just like the Mayan pyramids in Peru that Indy found. It's also a mishmash of Aztec, Mayan, and Inca iconography. It might be "vintage" 1960s at the oldest.
Load More Replies...He should contact the Mexican Embassy and explain the blind auction and that he would like to return these items to their country of origin if they're authentic. They can probably steer him in the right direction to give them back. If he contacts an auction house, they'll just be seeing $$$, so contacting the government or whomever they advise you to contact (for example, a Mexican cultural museum, or a university's Archaeology Department, or something like that), will be more concerned with their cultural value, should they prove to be authentic.
Copper Bottom Revere Ware Set I Inherited From My Parents. All Pieces Were Made Before 1968
I’m in my 30’s and these are the pots and pans my parents used all throughout my life. My parents inherited this set from my grandparents on my dad’s side. These were made in Rome, NY. Unfortunately the company opted to have their products manufactured in China beginning in 1999.
OMG, these are the exact pots and pans my parents had in the 50's through 80's - what a nostalgia rush!
My parents got a set of those for a wedding gift in 1948 or '49. They held up forever!
I think these are like the ones my mom had. My younger brother got them.

Just Inherited. I Was Shaking When I Found These
This was the share AFTER being split 3 ways. 12 Krugerand, 11 maple leaf, 3 Liberty eagle, 3 50 pesos. Are these worth more as gold, or as the coin?
Mexican here: The three coins on the top right look like Centenarios. They are almost pure gold, and cost around 3,000 dollars each. They are considered legal tender in any exchange house, you can sell them right away.
With the current political situation gold prices might go up shortly?
Krugerrands are generally accepted by international banks for spot value, on par with bullion. As they are not 100% gold (unlike the maples and eagles), their value is lower for goldsmiths. The pesos are definitely worth more than their bullion value as they are rarer. Banks do take a fee so if you're not in a hurry, you might be better of selling them to collectors.
the krugerands are worth more then just the price of the 24kt gold! Also depending on tje year on the coin - check online for each indivudual coin.
Why would you want a pretty penny when you have pretty gold coins? I know, I know. Idiom.

My Wife Inherited This Piece Of Amethyst From Her Late Father, How Can We Clean It Up Without Damaging It?
He passed away in May, it was in his room for months before and then months after his death, coming home with us today. As a result it's very dusty. He also smoked in the same room so it likely isn't just dust but a coating of cigarette chemicals etc.
How can we clean it up without damaging it? It's a rock at the end of the day, can we just submerge it in some lukewarm water and use a soft toothbrush or similar to remove the dirt?
Thanks
I would put it warm water with some Dawn soap and scrub with a soft bristled brush
I would have a professional do it, but I have very smooth hands (nearly invisible fingerprints because they're so shallow) and drop things, so I wouldn't trust myself to do it without damaging it somehow.

I Just Inherited This Truck
Hello all. I’m new here. I inherited this 72’ from my father. He replaced the engine/trans with a 454 and turbo 400. It’s clearly been lowered with cutdown springs. Stock rear end. It has some aftermarket panels, original hood. It needs a new bed floor and wiring harness. It also had a Holly carb. It runs rich and has problems staying running.
I’m not at all a car/truck guy but I know enough to know of the potential of this vehicle. I think I should change the rear end, or at least the gearing. I live in western Washington. I don’t know how to proceed. I’d like to bring it to a Chevy shop for them to go through it and make all the necessary changes. I don’t want to take it to a regular mechanic as I don’t want to get screwed.
Do any of you know of a good honest shop or mechanic I can trust in or around the Seattle area? I’ve thought about reaching out to any car clubs but wanted to check here first.

There's a vintage car club on the Kitsap peninsula across from Seattle. At least I think they're from here. I used to see their car shows all the time and they still drive a lot of their old cars and trucks around.

My Grandfather's Old Leather Bag
I recently inherited an old duffel from my father. He's had it for as long as I remember and I've always admired it, but it's so old that the leather is starting to wear out considerably. It also has patches inside where it has been professionally repaired at least once. Is there any specific products out there that can restore some strength and color to very old leather without damaging it further?
Soft natural hair brush, like horse hair. Use a large one to gently remove any loose debris. Look for dirty areas, stains, or oily areas. If found, use a small round brush and leather shampoo to remove. After shampoo use dry round brush to gently apply mink oil and work it into the leather. Mink oil comes in solid or liquid options. After you treat the leather, if color hasn't come back you can get a leather dye. Just give the mink oil a week or so to cure before dying the leather. Edit for spelling.
Brush gently with a soft cloth to loosen any dirt, then apply a thin layer of leather food/lanolin and work it in gently to keep the leather supple. Then take it to be checked over and repaired.
If you have a Boot Barn near you or a store that sells quality leather coats & bags. Either of them can tell you how to take care of it. It definitely needs to be cleaned and conditioned.

This Plastic Cooking Spoon I Inherited From My Grandma Is Apparently From The 60-70s
By the Swedish company Plast-Teknik based in Gothenburg, which also is the city I'm from and live in.
I couldn't find more info about this particular model though – the only other text is "Art. Nr. 1341" which is the article number. It would be fun to know which year it's from. The are some museum pieces in the Nationalmuseum dating from the 60s and 70s, and some listings on Tradera (basically Swedish Ebay) mainly dating from the 70s, so that's why I assume this spoon is also from that time period.
I use it all the time, and I guess grandma did as well since she didn't own many other cooking spoons. It's very sturdy, and it doesn't look like the black color has faded at all over the decades.
...Because I like it so much it's probably extremely toxic or something.

Inheriting things from your parents, grandparents etc is meant to be very personal and form a connection after they're gone. They often leave you these times in the belief that you will cherish them as much as they did. So, I find it very disheartening that so many of the posters are just like "Hey, how much money can I get for this".
Not every item is a sentimental treasure though. Having to sort through an entire household/ lifetimes worth of items can be pretty overwhelming
Load More Replies...I have a carpet rocker that has been in the family for generations. I think it was my great-great-grandmother's, or possibly before that. I have old photos with that same chair in them.
I inherited my grandpa's peculiar walking cane (it's a tourist thing, and you'd attach badges for places you've visited). WCane-6752...baddc9.jpg
