I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 30 Of The Best Ones From 2022
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
This is especially true after the last few years we have had with COVID, political, and social unrest, and seemingly more negative headlines than we care to count.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in the previous years and our app WHOLE is bringing more joy and positivity in the world!
Consuming positive news is one known activity that can boost your outlook and mood. We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little. So, with that said, here are some of the top performing positive news illustrations from 2022.
You can find my previous articles about The Happy Broadcast on Bored Panda, here (2021), here (2020), here (coronavirus), and here (2019).

Yes! Wish it where here in the USA, but they want money money money. Unless that changes, I don't see it happening
I'm sure Apple will change it for all countries. It's far more expensive to create a different charger port for different countries than to just switch their next phone line to use USB-C.

Load More Replies...This project was born as a way to deal with negativity-induced anxiety and in time I’ve realized that the only way to overcome this anxiety is through action and hope. So the goal of the project is to inspire and educate.
While not ignoring the bad news, I search and consume the stories of the people that rally together to help in a time of need. I share their stories and find ways I can support them and make sure they can do more. That’s what The Happy Broadcast is. Instead of getting overwhelmed by the bad in the world, we celebrate and get inspired by the millions of people that have shown us that we can all have a positive impact.
Some people tell us that there’s no hope and that the world is about to end. My answer is that there will always be hope as long as there’s action. We can’t just sit and hope. We can’t just witness what’s wrong in the world and hope that someone else will fix it. Whether it is sending money, showing your support or taking to social media to call for help and donations, help in a big or small way is what I believe will turn people’s anxiety into a healthier and positive reaction.
So let's turn the negative into a positive!
FINALLY! I see this happening more and more in the US as well. My school now has pad dispensers in the bathrooms (Guys as well)!
Why would guys need period stuff? Im confused
Load More Replies...YAASS end period poverty. All period products should be free!! It must be terrible to not be able to get the products.
YAY!!! I am going to Scotland next year and I can't wait to view all the beautiful greenery there! 🥰
Scotland is a truly beautiful country rich in history and country. If you have time I highly recommend a guided tour of the highlands or the Isle of Skye.
Load More Replies...The way that is phrased, it kinda sounds like the forrested area just trippled instantly. :) Like, a lone Scotsman is walking the hills, looking down on the heath, and suddenly, Boom! its filled with trees.
I also have an app called WHOLE. WHOLE is a self-care mobile app that leverages science-backed techniques to help people build and maintain healthy habits... oh, and it’s also free and fun. The main features of WHOLE include daily mood tracking, social journaling, and a habit builder aimed at helping us develop and maintain behaviors that lead to better mental health.
We created the app because we felt the need of a simple mental health companion, offering content and tools to help develop habits that can lead towards a happier life.
It's amazing to me. I remember the absolute terror. People were cast out. Children with the disease weren't allowed in school, because of the fear other children could catch it. People would set aside dishes for family members with it so no one else would get it from a plate or fork. These all AFTER we knew how it spread. It's just miraculous to me that now it's a condition that can be kept in check. No one would ever have believed it could be cured.
That is amazing news! Thank you to all the amazing researchers and physicians who work to find cures and treatments for some of the worst diseases.
This is horrible and extremely offensive. HIV is a serious and fatal disease and it's not acceptable to make fun of it.

During the year 2022, I loved the news of an autonomous drone that saved its first heart attack patient in Sweden by delivering a defibrillator three minutes after the alarm was raised.
The drone is part of Everdrone’s Emergency Medical Aerial Delivery Service – an experimental program being run in certain regions of Sweden that automatically dispatches drones carrying defibrillators to suspected cardiac events.
The program is an attempt to address the issue of wait times for emergency services to arrive to cardiac events, where every minute is crucial to survival.
Absolutely phenomenal research. Thanks so much to all the scientists who discovered this. The animals will thank us

Load More Replies...It would be nice if there were still buses running! In a great many rural areas - where you would be most likely to see bees - no buses run any more.
you'll need to be bussy as a bee, then (I'm out)
Load More Replies...I'm so torn about this one. While I love bees and think we desperately need to save them, I think about how severe my allergy to them is and how standing under a roof full of them in such close proximity would not only be a huge risk (to all of us with a bee allergy) but would probably cause me a full-blown panic attack anytime one straggled by.
Sounds like a wonderful idea on the surface! I'd hate to be someone who relies on public transportation and is also allergic to bees. I understand they aren't evil little bugs out there to sting people at every opportunity, but I imagine that's a little extra stress during your commute.
The mayor of my city signed a No Mow May proclamation to help the pollinators.
With all of that being said, besides my current projects, I also love to cook and travel. Especially after COVID, I felt the need to see more of the world and meet more people and discover more cultures. And of course, try new foods!:)
And yet they want everything to go “green” and expect the rare earth metals and materials to just suddenly appear out of thin air rather than having to dig them out of the ground in various places.

Load More Replies...Sort of. If you are genetically male and say you've EVER had sex with a genetic male, you get very rigorous screening. I found the process rather intimidating and a little humiliating. Straight friends just walk up, fill out a form, and they take their blood. We get asked invasive questions, but the nurses here are amazing, so it's not too bad, but it's annoying cause Hema Quebec tests the blood regardless. Still, after almost 20 years of being told I can't help, it's nice to finally be able to contribute.
It's called "lecanemab". Here's an interesting article about it: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/11/30/1139835073/alzheimers-drug-lecanemab-study-modest-success#:~:text=The%20drug%2C%20called%20lecanemab%2C%20reduced,New%20England%20Journal%20of%20Medicine.

Do you know who gave the most money to this cause? A coalition of American universities that include but are not limited too: Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Memphis, and Clemson. What do these schools have in common? They all have "Tigers" as their mascot.
This sounds like a dystopian plot in the making. All of a sudden, all kinds of things are breaking down, falling apart, people are dying, because these things are eating the plastic that we are still using!
They eat Styrofoam, not plastic. Also, because they are created in a lab, they are genetically engineered to be sterile so if they get loose they can't replicate.

We need this all over the U.S. Hopefully California will be just the beginning.
I think France has it too. And in Germany it`s illegal to take still edible food from the dumpster
It is a shame @ Germany. Since a few months i am in Messenger groups, where registered people from food saver (german Organisation with the goal to someday make themself obsolete because there would be All food used) share saved foods but also some 'containerer' (people who save still edible food from dumpsters and share it). I love that we can save food and money but it is a little exhausting and overwhelming sometimes, because you have to think about so many recipes for Kilos of buttermilk or sauce hollondaise or carrots sometimes. Challenging but interesting

To be fair being disabled in space is a less harsh thing, zero gravity means what you can move doesn’t need to fight gravity. honestly I hope 300 years down the road all people born disabled get the chance to live in space instead, it would just be better in terms of being able to function day to day.

Not 100% sure but from what I could find it appears some companies in the UK, US, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland and South Africa are offering this.
Load More Replies...I've talked with my company's HR (we have 40K employees world wide) and they are talking about a pet parental leave of 3 days to start but hoping to get it to 5-10 days at some point. :)
I love this as single people are automatically disqualified from using a bunch of their company benefits aimed at families. This is a benefit many single people could benefit from.
This is frankly ridiculous. There are lots and lots of reasons for people wanting time off. When my informal foster son died, I got zero time off. I had no vacation or PTO time left and he wasn't a blood relative, so no time off. Is OP suggesting that I take unpaid time off (which I didn't even think of at the time), while people get EXTRA paid time off for pets? If OP's answer is, well sure this doesn't preclude getting time off for other things, then why call out this one very specific scenario of people wanting time off? This is stupid, insulting, and makes me quite angry.
I think that the answer here is that you should have received PTO, hands down. Just because you didn't at a time doesn't mean everyone shouldn't. This was an issue on behalf of your job, not for the companies that are offering more PTO for those who do want to adopt an animal.
Load More Replies...If a company wants to offer that for their employees, that’s their choice.
My cynical brain is thinking "well, from 2 tigers to 4 is a 100% gain".
Germany too, I mean they DO raise their fares every year (in Berlin at least) but the service just gets worse every year
Load More Replies...Japanese trains were very expensive when we were there 10 years ago but that was going from city to city, not daily commuting but I believe that was still expensive. Crazy to think the prices we were paying were 1990’s prices! I’m talking $100’s for a few hours trip.
The Infrastructure needa to be in place to support this and our current infrastructure projects do not align. A car park being built.may come.with 10% of spaces being EV. Even then they arent necessarily going to be rapid charging. Then its not just as simple as wiring more in as you need the network to be able to cope so you need to upgrade the electrical infrastructure significantly. Thats before we even get onto people being able to afford these cars and the environmental impact of constructing them.
First of all, its 12 years away. Pretty sure the infrastucture will be ready. Second, anyone who has looked at the numbers are able to clearly see, that they are still way less poluting to make and maintain than fosilfueled cars. And the prices will come down with availability.
Load More Replies...Nope. an increase of 20% will cover it, on average that is.
Load More Replies...Petrol and diesel will always pollute but battery technology is getting greener every year. By 2035, ev vehicles may be greener then any ice vehicle ever could be and soon after be as green as any vehicle can possibly get once body materials are counted (both types need tyres and body’s and windows, etc).
So the graveyard of electric vehicles in France is going to be a one off? Meaning, there is a solution to the problem of disposal of the batteries in electric vehicles. Right? That isn't a 10 yrs. from now problem, it's a problem now.
Load More Replies...California did the same thing and doesn't have the grid capacity to handle it.
The usa has a crappy power grid so, idk what you expected. This is why we are hoping for fusion power because fixing anything in the usa requires LITERAL MAGIC. AHHHHHHH HELP US.
Load More Replies...Honestly, this is a really dumb thing to do. Yeah, the climate is important but gas-powered vehicles still rule the world and until it becomes similar in costs to manufacture and maintain EVs, this is a dangerously stupid road to go down.
Absolutely. You want to fight climate change, put your money down and do one thing that will significantly improve life for people and increase transit use.
Load More Replies...And they've given their nurses a well deserved pay rise. F**k the Tories. Why am I still here
Let’s just take a moment to notice how well Scotland is doing. Good job guys! Great work!
There’s no “climate emergency.” Yes, it’s changing (because it always has been) but the world isn’t ending in 10 years or something like all of these alarmists are claiming.
Meanwhile - US Town Rejects Solar Panels, Worried They Will "Suck up All the Energy from the Sun."
Uhm, what am I missing here? The small country of Malta alone uses 2 TWh, Germany uses 563 TWh. In 2019, Europeans consumed approximately four petawatt hours, roughly the same consumption of Africa, Eurasia, the Middle East, and Latin America combined.
I think cos it says 1 Terrawatt. Which means 8,760 Terra watt hours per year. If the sun shone 24 hours per day.
Load More Replies...Yeah, and how many of these solar panels are made from non-recyclable material? How much does it cost to make them and the batteries to store the energy they capture?
meanwhile energycosts in the netherlands have trippled and quadrippled, hoping that will change then
This screams of greenwashing. Ban ads for meat but allow giant polluting energy companies to burn fossil fuel for energy?
Ok, but outside of a McDonald's commercial, when has anyone seen an ad for beef? Just like drugs, it kinda sells itself
Also dumb. "We need to cut down on meat advertising because meat contributes to the climate crisis! Meat is killing the planet!" So planting stuff and tearing it out of the planet isn't killing it? F*****g stupid.
“Farting contributes to climate crisis, so lawmakers are going to fine you for passing gas.” - probably a headline coming soon to a stupid city near you.
And what happens when the ecosystem is adversely affected by overpopulation of these various animals? Because that kind of thing can happen.
In the US they don't even do that. They rip the stuff up (so you can't pull it out of the trash) and toss in a dumpster
Load More Replies...If a company wants to destroy its unsold products, why shouldn’t they have the right to do so? Nobody is entitled to their stuff for reduced prices or free.
When I was a nipper in the 80s the hole in the ozone layer was a terrifying thing and is what got me into eco conservation, this headline makes me overjoyed as it shows what is possible when humans pull their heads out of their asses, work together and fix the problem we created, it gives me some hope
With all of the trees being planted around the world by various conservation groups, this was bound to happen.

So the landlords, some of which are just regular people trying to make a living by renting out property they own, are stuck suffering on their own because the government stepped in.
My greatest dream is to buy some land and create a farm animal sanctuary.
Cows are adorable animals. They also enjoy music and playing :) (not playing music lol)
Ha! Australia is the absolute worst. Australia has the highest loss of species anywhere in the world. We are the global leader in wildlife extinctions. An absolute disgrace. That is just a start point. We love land clearing, felling old growth forests, destroying sacred sites and wiping out entire species endemic only to this country. Then there is the way we treat the oldest living civilisation on Earth. Australia needs to be called out globally.
I used to live my 'be kind to others and they'll be kind to you' and then I realized that it didn't work. No one cares. It will never work. No matter how kind and selfless you are, people do not care. Give up and stop leeching yourself dry just for others to demand even more from you.

Oat milk rocks. I'm lactose intolerant and I've had real milk and it just isn't the same.

But then won't they have to cut down trees to get the wood? I'm not trying to be a smart a**, I really want to know.
In related news, Fox has reported Sweden is now the enemy of the people
“Today the western world shudders as Sweden passes laws restricting freedom of speech and rights of the people! When will the rise of cancel culture and discrimination end?? We are victims!” /s
Load More Replies...If they want to provide sources to debunk disinformation, cool. But to prohibit it is censorship and a government that silences voices is the enemy of freedom.
This is appalling. Why should a company be forced to have their corporate board seats filled by government mandate? That’s the epitome of overreach if I’ve ever seen it.
From carriers of disease to real life super heroes. What a career!
the only downside is that rats spend all their time streaming on Twitch about their makeups...
Well done Spain. I am definitely in favor of us respecting the life and health of our pets....but it also shows how rich and therefore how much mental surplus we have in the western world when we have the surplus to look after our pets. In some other parts of the world, people have to use all their energy to save their children, and sometimes they didn't succeed anyway.❤😢😭❤
This is brilliant! It solves cruelty, antibiotics, and environmental impacts all at once.
Lab grown meat is nasty and doesn’t actually solve the problem because it’s more expensive than adjusting to more human ways of killing animals for their resources.
Our house was struck by lightening recently and we lost a modem, 6 month old washing machine and cctv cameras. It was disappointing that nothing could be repaired or in the case of the washer, no repair guarantee provided and initial guarantee voided. (We’ve decided to never use fisher and paykel again).
Here we just pass our old techs to our parents, friends, or even donate them. If I buy a new my cell phone, all my family upgrade theirs as well.
We really have to demonize the actions of the industrialists of the last 4-5 generations.
In the US, at least, big business will pay a sh*t ton to prevent that. When my sister and I visited a natural history museum in Houston, Texas, there was an entire Texaco Oil Company exhibit touting the benefits of oil. One guess who paid for it.
