I think that churches need to be taxed, many have been preaching politics from the pulpit which is in clear violation of the conditions of the Johnson amendment which grants them tax exemption. I also think there needs to be more investigations into sexual abuse allegations of many of the largest churches, and serious consequences levied against them. We already have numerous allegations from the Mormon church, Catholic church, and Jehovah Witnesses. So I think they need to be investigated fully and have wide reaching consequences.

Yes, please allow the government to censure religion. I'm sure this will not end very badly and churches being shut down because the local politician is of another denomination/sect/religion. It wasn't very long ago that the IRS was caught denying lawful requests for a tax status (i think it was PACs) that were conservative. Imagine what they would do to a church.

Religion. Is. Not. A. Business. Don't tax freaking religion! What country do you think this is?! Freedom of religion is one of America's core principles! Tax ANY church and that goes away....

Church does not equal religion. You can be religious and not go to church. Many churches use religion for profit. Just look at the Catholics and Scientologists just to name a couple. The Catholic Church is one of the richest organisations in the world which is wrong. It is even against the bible to make profit from religion and any “religious” organisation that makes money is considered false religion.

Look, all you pro-lifers: Imagine your best friend got raped. What are you going to tell her? “Keep the baby?” And when these poor parent(s) (poor financially speaking) have to keep the baby and sometimes end up abandoning it, you shame them. What choice do they have?

See I think on a case by case basis, such as complications with the pregnancy or rape, we can absolutely talk about abortion as a possibility. But the fact is that only 1% of abortions fit in that category. Sadly, most abortions happen because, for whatever reason, they choose to do it. I get not being ready for a baby. Our 2nd born was not planned, I wasn't working, and we already had a 1 year old. It was terrifying, but we work through it and now I couldn't be happier have him in our family.

Part of the reason I think this is so hard to talk about is we still don't have a line we can all agree on, on where consciousness begins. I am firmly in the camp of men should not make laws or vote about this though, at all. I know, I know, it is your potential baby too, but until we can remove a faetus and pop it into your body to carry around and suck the nutrients from your teeth and bones, um.. yeah. The power to create a baby belongs to women, and women alone should vote on how to rule themselves.

Absolutely! It's a personal choice. If you don't agree it's totally fine, but nobody is forcing people to have an abortion.

Ok, the thing with abortions is that even if they're illegal women are still gonna get them. We would stab ourselves or brutally do stuff to kill the baby before it was legalized. So the question isn't should women get abortions because we will. The question is would you rather women get abortions in a clean, sterile room by a professional, or in a dirty warehouse by anyone?

The right to have a child is exactly that, a right. It should be your right to decide to not have a child. I don't know why they stumble at this wording, it's simple logic.

    Truth Monster

My issue with abortion always revolves around the philosophical question: "At what point is a person a person?" its a deceptively simple answer. A pro-lifer says, "At conception." and so the entire life cycle from fetus to finale the entity is a person and is entitled to the rights and protections under the law. A pro-abortion usually says either when a person is born or when they can live separately from the mother. This is a quagmire, as the youngest fetus to survive outside the womb was 21 weeks (Lyla Stensrud) and that number is likely to get lower as neonatal tech gets better at sustaining life. At present, a fetus can be terminated when it in fact can survive outside the womb in many states. If the ability to survive separate from the mother is the base requirement for personhood, and the conferment of rights and entitlements to the protection from harm, then in many states it is legal to murder a baby.

The Gop bent over backwards to embrace trump, He is a republican and they must live with what they created. I mean you had every single republican besides Romney sing trump's praises and went out of their way to please him. Look at Cruz, Rubio, McConnel, Graham, Cotton, and many others accepted him, so no he is a Republican now. That is the new face of the GOP.

Reminds me of videos I've seen where a guy's in a blue state and walks up to random people and asks if they'd be friends with a Republican. They always freak out and say "no, I could never, they're too intolerant." Then the guy goes to a red state, and asks random people if they'd be friends with a Democrat. They're just like, "yeah, fine. I wouldn't agree with them on everything, but I'd still be friends." It's exactly like you said, who are the intolerant ones?

    Chrissy Dee
    Community Member
4 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

I think the intolerant label comes into play, because in a blue state or city, we're more likely to have a diverse group of friends who are actively hurt by policies like the ban on trans people openly serving in the military. It's excruciating to watch people you care about have their rights stripped away, simply because they're being true to who they are. Likewise, the "friendship" offered by Republicans in the videos you mention - can it be a genuine friendship, if you adamantly believe that the other person is not entitled to the same rights as you?

There are definitely some bad that comes from people's religions, but I don't think it outways the good. What bad things are coming from religion? Here's an article about the good. This is a list of articles where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has helped people in need. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/helping-hands

However, as a proud bi girl, it's definitely been harder to accept religion for me. I respect your religions, however, as long as people don't try to convert me to their religion. :)

Because making abortion legal gives women access to SAFE abortions. Abortions being illegal does not stop abortions from happening, it just means women will go through unsafe abortions, which kills THOUSANDS of women annually and can cause lifelong medical issues. It also has a high risk of not fully aborting the foetus but disfiguring it and causing significant health problems and pain after the birth etc.

If this is true, why are there so many incidents with US police officers being openly racist, abusive and corrupt? If you really think about it, the US police force isn't a police force but a para-military organization. The entire US police training is more focused on combat techniques than it is on actual policing and it's too short on top of that. 1 year training? In most European countries police officers need to study 3 to 4 years.

It’s required for my area to have a degree in law. Not all cops are bad, just a portion of them. I’m not saying it isn’t a problem, but it’s not every cop mate. And what? The police are trained on how to handle situations they may encounter, combat isn’t all of it. It only makes up about half.

That any organizations that receive federal money or tax payer money should not have the right to discriminate against anyone based on sexual orientation, race, or religion. Looking at you bible belt. If you are a federal employee you don't have the right to discriminate period. If you have religious reasons why you can't serve a LGBTQ person (which I think their reasons are BS) then you should be removed from your job.

Fair, but I also think that private companies should have autonomy, without being harassed or boycotted to oblivion for not agreeing with the wokerati. In the same manner that Twitter can be absolutely biased and remove swathes of people it disagrees with, but it's a private company so it has the right to do that.

I agree, but if a private company openly discriminates against people and is boycotted, that's just karma. People have the right to shop where they want and if they chose not to shop at a place for what ever reason then so be it.

Y'know, I've searched and searched the internet for the truth about this breed, about the 'locking jaw', and the aggresiveness/bloodlust. I can't find anything about it, I'd honestly love a link to any reliable sources if anyone has them, to why they are any more dangerous than any large dog. What I have found is on intelligence and obedience tests, they're at the top. Labradors are higher for recorded bites in the US. There is no locking jaw mechanism unique to the breed. They're just strong and tenacious, like any terrier breed.

For centuries in the US it has been presumed that white lives were the only lives that mattered. Society grew on the backs of oppressed minorities. For instance, Chinese immigrants being blown up while building the transcontinental railroad. Black lives matter opens the door for all to be included. As it written "Liberty and justice for all"

More of a everyone's life has meaning skin color gender and who they love shouldn't matter All lives matter kinda groups all the things people have really been fighting for they all have a similar goal that everyone's life matters

ALM was originally started a racist movement, that’s why many people are against it. Also, blm was because people of color were being oppressed. White people (not all) were the oppressors. That’s why we support them. For me, when someone says alm to downgrade BLM, it’s like complaining that there isn’t a straight pride month because straight people were oppressed. Which isn’t what you were doing, but some people do. Just my opinion, not trying to offend anyone, and everyone’s opinion is valid, even if I don’t agree with it <3

I support BLM, but BLM isn't saying that white lives don't matter. In the eyes of the government black lives don't matter, and were trying to fix that. ALM is a counter movement. So they dont really believe that alm, because they are fighting against BLM.

If you say all lives matter, you're basically saying that we're saying that black lives are better than everybody else, which is not what we're saying. We're not saying that white people are the enemy, we're saying that black people are oppressed, and we're tired of that. No idea if that made sense but i tried.

Wearing a mask doesn't make you immune to COVID. Please understand I'm NOT suggesting that you shouldn't wear a mask when you're in close proximity to others - you definitely should! But it seems like some people are starting to get the impression that wearing a mask will grant you 100% protection from the virus, which it doesn't. Especially if you're wearing a non-medical mask. Although your odds are decreased, you can still get COVID or make someone else sick even if you're both wearing a mask - especially if you're indoors and in close proximity to each other. So be vigilant, listen to your Public Health authority, practice social distancing, and keep wearing your mask (:

    a) I hate the whole hype about 'wrong pronous'. I have absolutely no problem calling you he/she if you‘re transgender, but 'xor'? b) At least in Germany, gender-neutral writing is a pain in the neck. I get and approve of the intention, but our languange sadly isn’t made for that in krs current form. For example, I‘m not allowed to call our library users 'users' anymore because in German, there‘s a male and a female word for 'user'. So in order to keep things gender neutral, I have to write 'the using one'. Which leads to wonderful constructions like 'The working one must scan the library card of the using one.' As someone who writes a lot of instructions, that drives me nuts. Makes texts bloated and much more difficult to understand. We need a whole new system for gender neutral writing to work properly, but I don’t think that will happen anytime soon.

That cats should NOT be allowed to roam and they have also HAVE to be desexed. Tomato sauce should be kept in the cupboard even though it says to refrigerate after opening on the bottle lol. Can’t stand cold sauce on my hot food. Peanut butter cups and candy corn are absolutely revolting. And salt water taffy is highly overrated. Steak needs to be cooked medium to medium-well done. Coffee and Alcohol are the absolute worst. Beyoncé, Elvis, The Beatles and Mariah Carey are not that great. You don’t need a label for every tiny little difference in your sexuality etc like aroace, cisgender, genderqueer, grey sexual etc. Everyone has different preferences and sex drive, are we going to start labelling people that are only attracted to tall people, disabled people, big breasts only, brains etc. Just stick with the basics like LGBTQIA+. This is probably the one I will get most of the flack for but here it goes. Everything you say can be considered offensive to someone so we need to stop censoring the words themselves but consider the intent in which the person uses it. For example using the word female in general is not a transphobic word, he/she/her/him in general etc are not insults to individuals who are gender fluid, black as a descriptive word is not an insult unless used in a derogatory manner. Same as the word fat. I used to find it so hurtful when people used the term but then realised it is how they use the term that matters. We need to try and stop letting words effect us and focus more on the person using the words and the intent in which they are used.

Ok but using makeup for art like that vs. covering your whole face in like 5 different layers of skin-toned makeup are two different things, I think what they meant is that you shouldn't use like a ton of makeup just to make your face look almost the same or plastic when going out. I think makeup art is different.

I understand why LGBTQ peeps are fighting for marriage equality, totally. But. Why marriage, an already broken institution. Why not make a new word, same privileges. I don't want to get married because the original purpose of marriage has absolutely nothing to do with love; the woman was given as property to ensure legitimate children for a man. I don't have a particular religion either. So a new word would be great for people like me too.

Kind of related: If lgbtq people want a marriage, as in, the civil institution / legal status, fine. That's up to their country's government. And I realise that a lot of lgbtq (and straight) people are happy with that. However, there are a small amount of lgbtq people who try insist on having a Christian wedding, in a church, by a minister. There have been instances wherein churches have been sued over this. I think this is wrong, because a Christian marriage has a certain definition, that Christians believe to be God-ordained. So if a couple choose to have a marriage that does not fit within the Christian view of marriage, they shouldn't expect to be able to have a Christian wedding. And churches shouldn't be forced to do this. (Separation of church and state, remember?) For one, churches should have autonomy. And two, if you knowingly do something the Church doesn't approve of, don't expect it to approve! (BTW, this would also apply if group marriage was legal, for instance.)

Because of our larger brains and the changes to hip structure caused by being bipeds, human babies have to be born earlier, otherwise it would not be possible for the mother to be able to give birth to them. So technically all humans are born kind of premature. That's why human babies are so dependent and take so long to mature, and probably also why human babies look quite weird, whereas animal babies are just like smaller, less hairy versions.

You're gender and your biological sex are the same thing. This is not to put down people who actually have gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria, according to psychologist, is a psychological disorder that needs therapy. Just a like person who has schizophrenia, you wouldn't tell them, "Yes, listen to the voices." You would expect them to seek help and understand that the voices they hear is not reality. This is the same with gender dysphoria, just because you feel like the opposite gender does not make it reality.

Thank you for being so respectful. I agree that, as adults, if they feel like they want to transition, that is completely up to them. I work with teenagers and i also use the pronouns that they ask that we use. The definition for gender has really only changed in the last 10 years or so. While there have been studies about the brain, they've really only shown that people that are transgender, their brain is more feminine or more masculine. This however, does not prove the theory of gender fluidity. There's a very good book by Dr. Debra Soh called "The End of Gender". She goes into the biological construct of male and female and shows that multiple genders is not true. There are only two genders, and your gender is the same as your biological sex. She absolutely supports the transgender movement and people being allowed to transition, but does not support helping kids to transition or the theory of gender fluidity.

I think gender dysphoria is caused by gender stereotypes.

Gender and biological sex are not the same thing, and you can’t compare gender dysphoria to schizophrenia. They have entirely different effects on a person. Also, even if you don’t believe this, transgender people do. Comments like this really hurt. Would it kill you to swallow your opinions and use the correct pronouns?

I do use the pronouns that people ask me too. Also, since this is a belief and not a scientific fact (as nobody has yet to prove there are multiple genders) people have no right to force their beliefs on others. You can't tell a Christian to not force their beliefs on others and then go around and do the same thing about transgender. It's hypocritical.

Yeah, they don't. Just because you don't fit with what's stereotypically masculine or stereotypically feminine, doesn't mean you're magically 'non-binary'. You can't just make up a gender because you feel like you don't fit in. And I don't think there's a single man out there who 'identifies' with 100% of typically masculine traits, nor a single woman who 'identifies' 100% with feminine traits. Humans are all different; we're all a unique mix of various traits. But the chromosomes and genitals you were born with are pretty definitive

Gender dysphoria is indeed a condition that needs treatment, but that doesn't lead to the conclusion that gender and sex are the same thing. For example: A person who feels to be in the 'wrong' body, but suffers no distress because of this, and can still function in regular life will not be diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Current studies on this conflict between gender and sex indicate a divergent brain chemistry than expected from the corresponding sexes brainstructure. Since there aren't any long term studies done that determine which establishes first (divergent brain chemistry or the feeling of being in the wrong type of body), there can be no definitive answer on causality though.... Given that the brains (male/female form) develop at a different point than sexual organs, an inbalance in hormones during gestation is a plausible explanation to having "female brains" in a "man's body" or vice versa. Source: my clinical psychology course that is part of the psychology degree.

Some humans are born with extra fingers. We still generally accept that humans have ten fingers. The very small minority of people who have more (or less) are a statistical anomaly.

Give it four years and the costs of water treatment will have spiraled out of control. Guess who will be picking up that bill?

People react all to frequently out of emotions, without looking into the relevant known facts. So much so, that scientific facts are no longer accepted, or even looked into when offered as a explanation for events/opinions. This slows us down as a species/society.

It's time for me to get downvoted into oblivion. I have a ton of unpopular opinions, or at least what are unpopular opinions on this website. 1. I am pro-life. Since abortion is the killing of an innocent child, it should not be legal. Nobody should get to decide if an innocent child lives or dies. 2. The media is crazy biased. It's really insane. 3. Biological sex is what matters, not what someone makes up in their head. I'm not trying to be hateful. That's just a fact. People identifying as a gender that does not match their biological sex wouldn't be a problem if they didn't demand to be let in bathrooms and locker rooms that don't match their biology and to participate in sports or other activities that don't match their biology either. 4. The BLM riots were very, very awful. Burning buildings, killing and assaulting people, and looting stores are not okay at all. Just to be clear, the Capitol riot was awful too. I don't support any riots. 5. Antifa is also terrible. I'm not supporting the opinions of the people they've attacked, but what they do is wrong. You should never be assaulting people for having beliefs you don't like. I'm not going to list every hateful group that exists, just the ones that are popular to support on here. 6. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but so many people have a very hard time treating the other side as individuals. For instance, many people in the media blamed all conservatives for the Capitol riot. Many people also said that the BLM riots represented all of BLM. Many people who are part of political parties in America seem to have a real problem with treating people on the other side as individuals, instead of a mindless part of an evil cult. Just to be clear, I'm expressing opinions. I mean no harm to anyone. If you want to talk with me to change my mind, I have no problem with that.

@AroAcePanda the answer to 1. Is if they don’t want the child then they can put it up for adoption. Adoption is a very good alternative to killing a baby.

I agree with most of these except pro-life. In some cases it's better off for women or girls to get an abortion, in my opinion. Some of these are when the person is raped (especially if a minor), if the baby is likely not going to live very long, or would cause serious health problems for baby or mother if she were to deliver.

I kinda wanna say something about #3 i guess, i think that when someone is trans, they should make that clear, because otherwise idk, like with all the sports stuff going on lately, maybe we could have trans sports or just mixed sports, but trans females have advantages in sports because of their biological sex, males are just built to be stronger and i'm not saying girls can't be strong i'm just saying biology isn't really something we can change for now. :/

Just to clarify for people who don't know, fascism is, "a notoriously difficult ideology to define, many 20th-century fascist movements shared several characteristics. First, these movements sourced their political strength from populations experiencing economic woes, real or imagined. Fascists tended to capitalize on these economic anxieties by shifting the blame away from government or market forces. Jews, immigrants, leftists, and other groups became useful scapegoats. Redirecting popular anger toward these people would, in theory, rid a country of its ailments. To unify a country, fascist movements propagated extreme nationalism that often went hand in hand with militarism and racial purity. The prosperity of a nation depended on a unified polity that put the group's welfare above the individual's. A strong, vigilant military was considered necessary to defend these group interests. And for some fascists “the group” was defined not by territorial boundaries but by racial identity." Antifa stands for ANTI Fascism.

    1. If you oppose it, then don't get one. If you oppose women who need one, I want to ask you: how many unwanted children will you adopt? Because those children will need a place to live. 2. nothing new there 3. This is a very generalistic view.... About sports I agree with you. About bathrooms... Who cares if everyone just keeps to themselves... And everything in-between ... 4. All riots are bad. Check. Does the BLM movement have every right to be furious? Hell yes. 5. Being anti fashist is a good thing. Doing bad things in the name of something good is just abhorrent 6.generalisations are often wrong. But people naturally want to belong to groups and identify with them (sport supporters are a good example. They consider themselves part of the team). So it's a logical reaction to think of the individuals that are part of such a group and choose themselves to identify with it exactly as such

    5. Anti-fascists have chosen to attack fascists because peaceful counter protests during fascist meetings were always met with violence. There's nothing wrong with violently oppressing fascism, unless you want fascism to be a tolerated and accepted part of your society. But you need to know that there's absolutely nothing peaceful or good about fascism. 6. Yes, you're right. Trump started the polarization and it has grown into a cancer, destroying the US from the inside. I think that a lot of Americans know this all too well, but they can't change it if politicians and the social media are keeping this movement going. You can't change in just a few days what Trump has created in 4 years of racism, of blaming the democrats for his own incompetence, of lying, smearing, inciting and brainwashing his followers that "the left" is out to make the US communist.

There is no reason to panic about climate change. The climate has been changing, rapidly and drastically, the entirety of earth's history. Don't believe me? Go look at the environment(s) the dinosaurs lived in. There were no polar ice caps longer than we have had polar ice caps. The oceans are we know them are again, a recent addition (in age of earth terms). The concept of a baseline climate that humans are altering is a lie. There is no baseline. There never was a baseline.

This is an interesting topic. People look at graphs showing human energy consumption after the Industrial Revolution, and graphs showing amounts of greenhouse gases. There is an obvious correlation, which might suggest that humans cause global warming. However, the graphs showing the rise of feminism and showing global warming over the last century, are, in fact, almost identical. If correlation equals causation (a premise falsely assumed by many climate activists) then one could suppose that feminism causes climate change. 😂
