Vaccines.
The number of people who fell for antivaxx b******t is huge. And unfortunately, lives were lost because of it. Children whose parents refused to vaccinate them. People who refuse anti-covid vaccine during the pandemic, and later passed away of covid.
I've been working in clinical trials for almost 2 decades. The amount of safety data required for a d**g to be approved is impressive (all must documented and verifiable). Vaccines save lives.
No, you don't get sick because of the vaccine, and your genes are not altered because of it (that's not how genetics works). 🤭

My husband was both a military and commercial pilot and I very patiently explained why it couldn't be a real thing to an otherwise nice and intelligent woman. She was having none of it. Totally baffled me.

(I know that this will be downvoted, but anyway...) Two things make it seem 'dangerous' 1. you think it really matters: most candidates are crooked; the really good, honest ones never get enough contributions to wage an effective campaign. (Exit polls show that Ross Perot would have won except both republican & democratic candidates repeatedly claimed that a vote for Perot was a vote for the other party. ) 2. You have to register, which puts you on endless mailing lists

What? #2 makes no sense, registration officials can not and will not sell voter information. I have been voting my whole life and have registered in multiple states, and have never ever gotten on a single mailing list. Donating to a political party, however, will.

While not dangerous, and despite the 'scientific' studies having been shown to be 'methodologically flawed' (racist af), there is significant anecdotal evidence of bad reactions. I'm OK with some, but if the cook is too enthusiastic I _will_ have a just-end-me-now migraine.

Nuclear power. No it's not 100% guaranteed perfectly safe at all times under all conditions, but what method of power production is?
The newer generation (Generation IV) reactors are safer and produce much less waste than previous generations.
Nuclear waste can be recycled into more fuel. France recycles about 96% of their waste.

Exactly, the reason we had Chernobyl happen was because of Soviet levels of incompetence mixed with the awful design of the RBMK reactor but otherwise nuclear fusion is a relatively safer way of power generation with a much lower death toll compared to other methods

Australia, Yes we have a lot of animals big and small that can potentially hurt even k**l you. But so do a lot of other places and people still travel there. We do have Dropbears though, stay the f.u.c.k away from those angry furry little buggers.

GMO foods. There is little-to-no evidence that they are a health or environmental risk, and they provide many positive benefits to the plants' health, taste, nutritional value, and production and can reduce pesticide use. People just have a gut reaction when they hear scientists are messing with genes, like they're going to turn you into a zombie when you eat a tomato.
