No textbook answers (ie hawaii), but a place that you personally love and see as beautiful.

Urban Seattle. It's dirty and grimey and grey and smells like smoke with trash littered all over and needles discarded in the sidewalks, but it's beautiful. I love the grey, which is more of a silver when you think about it. The dirt only adds to the aesthetic, and the vaguely dystopian feeling of downtown Seattle is something I revel in. You can see buildings that were built over a century ago next to something that was probably made a few weeks ago. The sunrises hit the mountains in a way that's prettier than the pictures, and seeing downtown lights from a ferry at night is almost ethereal. As a person, I'm not fond of cities, but Seattle is the exception. By the way, if you ever come here, I'd recommend going to interlaken park or hiking in Kitsap near kingston. No matter how much I love Seattle, it just doesn't compare to PNW nature, and the latter is much less an acquired taste.

There's a small island off the coast of North Carolina called Bald Head Island. It started out as an outpost for turtle research, but eventually became a village. My oma and opa bought a condo down there in the 70s, and I've gone there since I was a little kid. The island works very hard to protect the natural elements, to the point where only golf carts are allowed on the island for non-commercial use (They still have trams for the ferry, firetrucks, and companies use trucks). Sadly, it's becoming more commercialized as tourism grows, and people have started to build massive million dollar houses on the beachfront. Hopefully the actual residents and the Conservancy (turtle researchers stayed) manage to keep it as beautiful as it is right now, sitting on the porch facing the marsh as the sun rises is one of the most peaceful things I know.

There is an outlook on a mountain in my hometown. You can go up there and see the whole city lit up at night. I can sit there all night and watch the lights turn off and on and the traffic lights change colors. I love it so much I even wrote a poem.

The Grand Canyon. A lot of people find it underwhelming ("it's just a big hole in the ground!"). But I find it very humbling, not just in size, but just the reminder of what nature is capable of given enough time.
