I have a similar story. Was watching a cooking video and saw someone poor some dark brown liquid ( soy sauce looking ) and asked my mom if it was soy sauce. Of course that's my first guess cuz I'm also Asian.

I'm not Asian but I love rice. It's difficult not to love it...such a versatile food from rice pudding to chicken rice soup to paella to Italian Ricotta cheese and rice cheesecake. Yummy!

    I'm part Sicilian. I frequently use a pasta maker and cook far too much food when we have company for dinner (Pre-pandemic anyway) The other part of my heritage is Hungarian (Gypsy) and I own tarot cards.
