I shared a bedroom with my sister. We would play "Name That Tune," by humming the notes of the songs.

Read Archie comics, or stare at the clock, listening to it's every sound. Listening to the faint radio signal when the radio was off.
I read. A lot. When we were kids, we had to be in bed by a certain time, but we were allowed to read as late as we wanted to because my mom suffered from insomnia as a kid and hated being forced to lie in bed for hours just staring at the ceiling. She thought it was much healthier for us to read if we couldn’t sleep than to just lie awake for hours. It fostered a deep love of reading in me and I ended getting my college degree in English Literature. Still have insomnia, still spend the better part of each night reading.
Pray ! I would pray asking god that my parents would get along and be happy. They didn't !
When I had trouble falling asleep, my mother would say "Lie quietly and tell yourself a story." Fifteen years later I started writing those stories down and I'm still doing it today.
