Hey Cishet Pandas, In Honor Of Pride Month, Do You Have Any Questions For The LGBTQ+ Community? (Closed)
Please only be supportive, I will try to answer the questions I can, but I don't want to deal with bigots.

HWY IS IT SO HARD TO BE GAY IN HIGHSCHOOL
People are often 'outed' meaning the someone makes it known to others that that person is queer without their knowledge or permission which leads to bullying and homophobia ect. Also dealing with the feelings isn't easy
Load More Replies...Honestly, it’s not the fact that your in high school. Kids may believe their parents may do something cruel if they support lgbtq+, or they may have just grown up to have a belief of being in that such community is ‘ satanic’ or anyone in it is a ‘ sinner.’ They might be raised wrong.
it says write your answer, so i might be in wrong spot.... question, my uncle has been gay since as far back as i can remember (he would be in his 70s today). i recently used the word queer to discribe him. i got jumped on for using it. my uncle never had it issue with it, why is it suddenly so taboo?
Queer used to be a slur against the LGBTQ community, but that was a long time ago and it has been reclaimed, so it's not a slur anymore. Some people still believe it is, or some people believe that it's offensive for non LGBTQ people to use it to describe a queer person, but I and probably most other members of the community are okay with you using it. Just make sure that you aren't using it in a derogatory way. Sorry you got backlash for that. Also, you're in the right spot, bp just calls all the responses answers.
And if you don't know someone's sexuality except that they aren't straight, you can automatically call them queer! Its the umbrella term.
Load More Replies...It used to be a pretty bad slur, so I think ur uncle, who by the description is about 50, mistook you just saying he's part of the community to be basically calling him the f word
no, my uncle would have been 70. he used the word queer to discribe himself.
Load More Replies...How bad is it to trip up on pronouns? Like when I see someone born female and they introduce themselves as something other than she/her and my old lagging brain keeps crashing and refererring to them as she/her like how much understanding and or empathy exists with an average LGBTQ person? Am I going to burn in flaming rainbows for this sin for all of eternity or will trans Jesus forgive me? It's so annoyingly embarrassing stumbling over it everytime I'm talking to or about a trans person but it's like my brain will not pick it up, it just won't stick! Also is it brutally insensitive of me to wish we could all just switch to one non-gender specific universal pronoun set so I don't have to relearn pronouns on an individual basis? How much on a scale of 1-10 does it hurt you personally when someone gets it wrong? Is it mildly annoying or slowly crushing your spirit everytime or causing instant psychological trauma? I have a non binary 12 year old and she's really understanding but 50% of the time I'm getting her friends pronouns wrong and it's kinda driving me crazy and I'm worried about having them over to visit because they're just kids and I don't want to like damage them or something. Is this happening to anyone else or is my brain just broken?
it’s ok to mess up on pronouns if you don’t mean to. if it helps call them by their preffered name until you get used to it. something that helps me sometimes if think of a person and thinking something like “i spoke to them the other day, their really kind” or something like that, just thinking about them and using their preffered pronouns can help :))
It's totally normal to mess up pronouns, but if you do, I would say the best thing to do is to correct yourself withought making it a big deal. As a NB person, I appreciate it when people correct themselves, but when they make it a big deal of how sorry they are, it ls just annoying
I agree. As long as you apologize and correct yourself it's not a big deal and don't have to make it one.
Load More Replies...I mean I care, but as you can see from my screen name I'm Genderfluid, it's okay! I have 3 sets of pronouns and that's alright! As long as you're trying it's all good with me at least. I get it. I have 3 sets, no one knows how I'm feeling every second, it's alright. Just try and you'll be good 😊
I'm still in school so this might be a bit different but usually if someone tells me their pronouns and its different than what I was expecting on a Thursday or Friday then I go home for the weekend where I dont have to see or think about them, my brain will get the chance to store the information and I'll get it right when I see them again. It's like studying, cramming the information in right before going to see them isn't likely to work
It's okay to mess up with pronouns once in a while, and it's hard to get used to using different pronouns for someone you've known for a while, but as long as you're making an effort to not misgender someone, most people will be forgiving. It's kind of unrealistic to assume that everyone will get your pronouns right 100% of the time. As long as you apologize (but don't make a big deal of it) and make an effort to do better, it's okay to make a mistake with pronouns
Why can’t you let rainbows be rainbows!?
We're not saying they can't be just rainbows, we just use the rainbow to represent our community. It's the non queer people who treat everything with a rainbow as if it were gay, and we're not trying to gatekeep or take anything away. If you don't like rainbows because of us, that's a you problem
No, but that’s what I mean, since lgbtq started everyone associate rainbows with it!
Load More Replies...The original pride rainbow flag had specific meanings for each color, but now it has turned into any rainbow. Its not like anything rainbow means you are queer, it is just a flag we use to celebrate being ourselves
I'm pretty sure each color has its meaning. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Red equals life, Orange symbolizes healing, Yellow stands for sunlight, Green represents nature, Turquoise equals magic & art (this was a previous LGBTQ+ flag and this one had turquoise and other colors) Indigo stands for serenity or harmony, and Violet represents the spirit of LGBTQ people. I got this from looking it up so its probably wrong
