    Not sure that is Dicken's best-*known* book - A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist are probably better-known due to the movie adaptions.

    True, but A tale of two cities is Dickens' only novel with a number in the title.

    George VI was/is one of the most well-known, mother of Elizabeth II and reigning monarch through the second world war, as well as the subject of "the Kings Speech". You don't need to remember all 6 of them, just that the most recent was the sixth. How many Kaiser Wilhelms were there? A lot of people will know that just because of the first world war.
