The Winning Photos From The GDT Nature Photographer Of The Year 2020 Have Been Announced And They’re Beautiful
The German Society for Nature Photography has just announced the winners of the Nature Photographer of the Year 2020 contest, and the shots are absolutely beautiful.
"Due to the coronavirus pandemic, voting was not carried out during the annual general meeting but was completed online for the first time ever in GDT's history with great participation by its members," the organization told Bored Panda in a statement.
Professional photographers competed in 7 categories: Birds, Mammals, Other Animals, Plants and Fungi, Landscapes, Nature's Studio, and the special category -- Water.

Winner, Other Animals. Danger In The Mud. Crocodile In A Drying Pool By Jens Cullmann
"A total of 5,046 stunning pictures was submitted to the photo contest. After a pre-jury procedure (Alexandra Wünsch, Torsten Bittner und Jon A. Juarez), it was the GDT members' turn to make their choices from the ten best photos in each of the seven categories."
The overall winner as well as category winners and runners-up with their beautiful photos received generous prizes by AC-Foto, GDT's partner for many years. The overall winner of the photography contest also received an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III 12-40mm kit from the organization's premium partner, Olympus Europe.
Overall Winner, Mammals. A Hare's Dream By Peter Lindel
This year, the overall winner is Peter Lindel from Dortmund, Germany, with his photo of a European hare. Lindel is passionate about wildlife photography, focusing on local as well as African fauna. The winning image belongs to a series taken in the north of Dortmund. "Compared to many international nature photography hotspots, this region has little to offer," GDT said. "[But] Peter Lindel [invested] a lot of time and blood, sweat, and tears working on this project on his doorstep. In these times, as everyone is urged to stay home, the generally classic subject of a hare gains special significance. It is also a beautiful statement for long-term exploration of a single species and region."

Spectacular photographs! I can no wait for the time until we can all go outside and explore the beauty of nature again.
I have a tree outside my bedroom window & have been watching it it bud & leaf out day to day. It's something I would not have done otherwise. But I'm definitely going to buy some film for my 35mm & take it with me on my next walk. I'm in a new city & seeing for the first time.
Load More Replies...I really enjoyed looking at the ones from the water category they wete really something else
We think we make beautiful things but nature always does it better!!
The standard of this competition is always so high, and this year is no exception. Inspiring stuff.
amazing and full of wonder - i like the toad king but hey all are just spectacular
I appreciate good photography, some of these, were incredible, great beauty !!!
Beautiful photographs all around! I wish I could try photograph but my hands are super shaky and it's always the wrong time XD
Would be nice if a photographic contest of this kind but when people can only post pictures from their own country. I always have the feeling that those are won by photographers that can afford traveling around the world for their passion. Also it would show that you can find beauty anywhere :)
You can never get to this amazing overall quality in local contests. It is like comparing world championships and district or national championships. There are lots of local or nationwide photo contests, just try to find them through local photographers' organizations. One does not rule out the other.

Although she only did it as a hobby she became amazing & I treasure all the photos she took especially the nature & scenic ones. She died 18 years ago when she was 47 years old from a rare incurable cancer.
