On the Internet, words often don't mean what they do in the real world. For example, "tea" is not just a hot beverage anymore: it's all the gossip and shocking information that people like to chat about. Sipping tea also means to sit back, relax, and watch the chaos of online life unfold before your eyes.
This is where the name of the subreddit "Sips Tea" comes from. It's an online community that shares the best memes of the moment and has crowned itself "home of the best content on the internet." Check out whether that claim is true by scrolling through the newest selection of memes from the group!

The "Sips Tea" subreddit is not just a place for memes and funny pictures. According to its bio, it's also "Reddit's #1 source for entertainment, news, and pop culture." Today, most people get their news online, but Reddit isn't the number one source for most Americans.
According to a 2025 Pew Research Center survey, only 9% of Americans get their news from Reddit. The most popular platforms through which people stay informed are Facebook (38%) and YouTube (35%). Others go to Instagram (20%), TikTok (20%) or X, formerly known as Twitter (12%), to get their news.

If she paid extra for it, it's hers. And she is not the bad guy here.
YouTube is also the most popular platform when it comes to entertainment. A whopping 84% of Americans report using it, and it's probably because it offers the widest range of content. There are podcasts, commentary, gaming, sketch comedy videos, and even shows you would regularly watch on TV that upload their content on YouTube.
Reddit, on the other hand, is more for niche communities. 26% of Americans use Reddit regularly, but it's more of a place for fandoms, gaming, hobby communities, meme culture, and just good ol' trolling. Of course, it can also be a breeding ground for misinformation, but such is the way with self-regulated communities.

Fighting misinformation on Reddit is a Sisyphean feat. As the moderator of r/politics, u/Qu1nlan, explained to NPR in 2019, "We are a team of about 50 moderators on a subreddit of 5.6 million people. We don't have resources that a team like Facebook or Twitter might have with tons and tons of paid fact-checkers," he went on.
"So generally, when we see fake news that we know is not factually correct, we'll go ahead and encourage our user base to go ahead and fact-check it themselves and also comment – say, well, here's why this news is fake, and here [are] the sources to back it up. And here's why you shouldn't believe everything that you see on the Internet."

My (non British) husband was watching TV one night while I was reading. It got late, so I said let's go to bed - he said he wanted to see the end of the show. He told me it was a clever comedy about politics, kind of ridiculous but almost believable. He was watching house of lords live.

Sad, but true. Some people are so dumb it's a wonder they can tie their shoes. Oh, wait. We have shoes with velcro straps or elastic shoelaces that don't have to be tied. It makes me wonder... Lauri here has no critical thinking skills at all.

Shoes On Or Shoes Off?
Uh oh. This one always causes arguments. 😂 I say do whatever the f.uck you want to in your own home. And your guests should follow suit.
Well of course. And I've known both 'on' and 'off' households in at least four or five of those labelled as 'on' on this map.
Load More Replies...I live shoes off in a shoes on society except when I visit someone. Then I look at their feet and look for their shoes if it's shoes off.
It's slippers in my house. We have two dogs. Walking around in socks, you will slip in floof and fall. Or you will step in drool and have wet socks. (Yes, we do clean. But you'd have to vacuum at least four times a day to get all the floof.)
Please repost this next time there’s a “cr@p on the US” article that thinks it’s the only country where people wear shoes inside based on watching American tv shows.
There are also people who have outdoor shoes and indoor shoes (like my grandmother)
Agreed! Outside shoes at the front or back door and inside barefoot, thongs, slippers, or uggies if it is snowing (yes sorry I am soft XD)
Load More Replies...To red-green colourblind people there's only one colour on that map. PS. I'm shoes off and my wife is shoes on. It's not a country by country thing.
There's a reason we put shoes on before going out. Why would you want to drag all the c**p you're protecting your feet against outside back inside?
Reasons are 1) everyone (around here) does it, 2) going barefoot outside might hurt the soles of the feet, 3) feet may get cold. Unless we've had heavy rain "all the c**p" I drag on the soles of my shoes is still a very limited amount. I wouldn't recommend licking them (or the pavement, for that matter), but "outside" is not a toxic wasteland per se, and my floors get cleaned regularly in any case.
Load More Replies...I wear slippers indoors... bring them on visits to others' houses too.
When I watch American television ive noticed every one has shoes on inside especially if they are wealthy. But I guess you don't ever walk on dirt if your wealthy living a urban life style. Shoes off please.
Wait is it ok that we take our shoes off if we live in a shoes on society? Are there shoes on people in the shoes off society.
Wearing shoes all day and then saying: Whatever, might just keep them on. In your home. I'm NOT getting over that anytime soon... 🤷🏼♂️😳
My friend has a cat and a dog. She frequently goes without shoes. What is the issue? Cat's who don't use a litter box and c**p all over?
Load More Replies...No it's not, to both of your assertions. Just because you might be and some people you know, the UK is a much bigger place than your own perception.
Load More Replies...Cats use a litterbox, step in their own waste (dogs, too), then walk on floors, and anywhere else they please, for that matter. With both dogs and cats, I vacuum once a day, mop twice a week, and wear slipper shoes in our home. After I dress to leave for whatever, work, appointment, visit a relative, the shoes are part of the outfit. I live in a country where the majority is shoes off, and almost everyone I know has cats and/or dogs. I don't put my shoed feet on furniture, therefore, I'm not taking my shoes off.

Is It Too Much To Ask?
This is stupid. I don't love having a car that can't be fixed without a laptop either, but I don't want a car without anti-lock breaks (microcontroller), I don't want to pay for twice as much fuel as is strictly necessary (engine management system), and I don't want to either manually wind my windows or risk a child being choked by a powered window coming up when they've got their head out (there's a microcontroller that detects that and prevents injury).
