Did you need an alarm clock to wake you up this morning? Or was it a loud meow, a paw to the face and a warm cat butt on your chest that welcomed you to the day? If you’re a cat parent, you know how hilarious and silly your little feline babies can be. But it can be easy to forget how much fun everyone else’s cats are too!

Below, we’ve gathered some of our favorite pics from the Kitty Litterposting Facebook group, which is dedicated to sharing the most adorable and hilarious memes and photos of the internet's favorite animal. If you have cats of your own, you’re sure to find many of these pics relatable, and if not, you can still appreciate how precious they are. Enjoy scrolling through, and keep reading to find conversations with Marc-Andre Runcie-Unger, Founder of Katzenworld, and top cat behaviorists Rita Reimers and Linda Hall!

There’s no question that the internet loves cats. But no matter how many adorable photos of these fluffy furballs we’ve seen before, we still can’t get enough! And that’s why groups like Kitty Litterposting are so fantastic. This Facebook group, which was created in 2019, has a simple goal: “Show us your cats, cat memes and videos. All manner of fur, scales and feathers are most welcome too.” And clearly, the community has been incredibly successful, as it has amassed a whopping 166k members over the past 4 years.

From hilarious memes that all cat owners can relate to to precious photos of cats in cowboy hats, this group has it all. If you’re looking for fellow cat parents who know the struggles of finding cat hair on every piece of clothing you own or finding the photos you placed on the mantle scattered around the floor on a daily basis, you will feel seen in the Kitty Litterposting community. No matter how annoying these little balls of fur can be, they’re definitely the second most popular pets in the world for a reason. And arguably, the most hilarious pets too!

To learn more about what makes kitties so special and why they’re so beloved around the world, we reached out to the team at Katzenworld. Lucky for us, founder Marc-Andre Runcie-Unger was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and share why he believes cats are perfect meme-making material.

“I believe this is down to the fact that cats are smarter than us and know exactly what to do to manipulate us,” Marc shared. “Of course, at the same time, they must make sure that us humans think that we are the true masters, so the best way to achieve that is by supplying us with fun poses for memes!”

We were also curious if Marc believes most cat moms and dads have funny photos and videos of their kitties. “Yes! I don’t think there is a single cat parent that doesn’t have a phone or two full of photos,” he shared. “One of my funniest shots is one of our cats sitting on the toilet as if to say, ‘Sorry you didn’t clean my litter box at 4 am, so I’m using yours.’”

And if you’re a cat owner looking to help understand your cat better and start speaking the same language, Marc says it’s all about learning how to interpret their body language. “Watch their tail, as well as how they look at you,” he noted. “[For example], tail up and moving a bit like a rattlesnake is a happy cat that wants attention and possibly cuddles. Just don’t force yourself on your cat and make sure you seek consent. I actually wrote an article on this topic here which got republished in major publications in the U.K., and I appeared on TV [to discuss] it.”

“For any prospective cat parents, I’d hugely recommend adopting a pet over buying a cat!” Marc says. “Our two rescue cats Oliver and Nubia were the inspiration for our website. Nubia is an especially amazing cat, as she only has three legs but is able to do all the things you’d expect from a cat,” he added with a smile.

We were also lucky enough to get in touch with two top cat behavior experts, Rita Reimers and Linda Hall of Cat Behavior Alliance, to hear their thoughts on why cats are so meme-able.

"It's no secret that cats do what they want," they told Bored Panda. "If it feels good, your cat will probably do it. They also like to defy the rules. If someone tells you 'all cats like' or 'don't like', don't believe them. There are always a few that will defy everyone, because they can! For example, it's well known that cats don't like water. But we've seen a few who will jump in the bathtub with their humans. Hysterical!"

"Also, there are behaviors like 'making biscuits' that are simply too adorable to humans, and we don't see those behaviors in other species," Rita and Linda added. "Do we dare even mention toe beans? Have you ever seen anything so adorable?"

At a friend's home. She'd been really, really struggling to keep their toddler from climbing into and standing on the coffee table. Hubby proceeds to stand on the same table to fix the TV. Toddler looks at dad incredulously and is staring down mom. She sees him. Sees dad. Sees toddler making connections. Lightbulb goes on over her head. "NO standing on the table!" She yelled to the dad. Poor guy! But funny!! Toddler nods and walks away.

Rita and Linda also shared that their phones are full of cat pics. “Laying in odd places or upside down are pretty common pics on our phones. The way they stalk each other for play is hilarious,” the experts noted. “Zoomies are always a good video! They run around like someone's chasing them, going top speed up high and across the floor in a race only they seem to understand. Of course, putting some catnip down for them to munch is guaranteed to produce some hysterical behavior!”

We also asked the cat behavior experts how cat owners can learn to understand their feline friends a little better. “A recent client came into the session stating that cats are so difficult to understand,” they noted. “At the end of the session, she looked surprised and told us cats were much less complicated than she thought!”

“We highly suggest you find some cat content creators on social media you trust,” Rita and Linda told Bored Panda. “There are great tips posted every day, free of charge! Look for a variety of creators. We focus mainly on behavior, although we share many other tips. Others may focus on holistic health supplements while another may focus on veterinary care, TNR or rescue. Find creators who have single cats and some who have multiples as their experiences will be different but equally valuable.”

“READ! We both have a wide variety of books from experts in various fields related to cats,” the experts continued. “Some may repeat what we already know. We may not agree with some. However, we always manage to pick up some tips, tricks and ideas! READ!”

But, of course, when I constantly look for new places to have a nap and throw up on the carpet, my Dad says I'm lazy and disgusting.

The experts also emphasized the importance of listening to podcasts to understand your kitties. “Pet Life Radio has many great podcasts on all things pets,” they shared. “We are about to publish our 99th podcast on Pet Life Radio (19 Cats and Counting). We have hosted veterinarians, behaviorists, animal communicators, rescue people, TNR people and so much more, including a few celebs! We have covered a huge variety of subjects regarding cats. Find a podcast you enjoy and keep learning.”

And of course, if you observe confusing behavior, speak to a behaviorist! “There are some a-meow-zing things cats do to communicate with us,” Rita and Linda noted. “We only need to learn their language. If we had a non verbal child, we would do all we could to communicate. We think our cats deserve the same!”

One winter my cat slept in my bed, under the duvet, from 8 am to 8 pm. Nothing is more comfy than the human bed, with the human who guards the sleeping kitty

“Being able to understand your cat will change your relationship drastically! They truly are more simple than people believe,” the experts noted.

"Everything a cat does is for the survival of themselves and their species,” Rita shared. “That means there is no revenge or holding grudges, etc. It doesn't serve them, so they don't do it. We just misunderstand them. Everything they do is based on their need to survive and to ensure the survival of their species. That is their sole motivation in everything they do.”
