Ignore the fact that it’s already over 100 days since New Year’s. It’s never too late to finally cash in that gym membership you bought, but never bothered to show up to because it’s about making resolutions and then abandoning them, right?

Wrong. The gym gives you something you’re obviously taking for granted and that’s the potential for being healthy and maybe even swol out of your mind, and a chance to enjoy memes between reps. And if you’re looking for a venue, look no further than this Facebook page.

Don't worry, it gets better, once your taste buds change, unless you happen to be one of the unfortunate human beings who have extremely sensitive taste buds, then well, good luck.

So, there’s a Facebook group, very simply called Gym Memes (@officialgymmemes), which is all about that swoltastic lifestyle. It shares spot-on memes about sports, fitness, workouts, the gym and everything in-between.

It is home to 3.8 million followers who tune in on the daily ever since mid 2012 when the page was created.

There’s this thing with the human body (well, actually, any body that’s subject to evolution) where it decides what to keep around based on its usefulness and usage. That’s how humans got rid of their tails—the primate ancestry of humans had them.

Same goes with everything else. If we don’t move enough, our body will assume we don’t really need to as much. And so our muscles will grow weaker to preserve energy for everything else that’s crucial for our survival. Heck, if you don’t challenge your brain with puzzles and the like, that same thing might happen too.

So, it goes without saying that working out is generally good for you.

And besides not wanting to end up not being able to support your own weight, it has other benefits too. Benefits like increased energy levels, boosted mood and overall attitude, and, physically speaking, your body becomes more resilient. Sure, it hurts in the beginning, and might continue depending on how hard you go, but that is exactly what strengthens your body.

That's the problem...getting down to my goal weight and rewarding myself with Reese's cups.

So, if you decided physical activity is the way to go, here are some things to consider before jumping head first into a jungle gym. Reflect on your current level of fitness and your goals. Why do you want to start working out—what are you trying to accomplish? Make a list, set goals and pace yourself. Having a professional alongside you will help immensely.

Just like a car, you can’t start your fitness journey at 82 miles per hour. You will need to warm up and work your way up to the top. Everyone goes at their own pace, but they do end up at their destination.

Another thing to note is that you’re doing this for yourself. So, don’t compare yourself to anyone else. This is about you, not your peers.

As for getting down to business, it’s always good to consult a physician or a licensed trainer before doing anything. They could help you set up a plan for activities that would be appropriate for your body and guide you through the process.

On top of that, they would make sure that you wouldn’t sustain any injuries—and if you end up doing so, they will help you recover and guide you back into getting ripped.

But who will feel really silly when the zombie apocalypse hits while you're both working out, huh? Huh?!

If the gym isn’t your rack of dumbbells, remember that physical activity in general can keep you healthy enough without the need for scheduled sweat sessions in yoga pants.

The easiest way to approach this is by walking. Yes, walking enough per day, i.e. for roughly 30 minutes a day (or somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 steps) can have significant positives on your heart and other organs.

Was a "gym rat" and kickboxer as younger. Worked out alot, so naturally had to eat good - and alot. At my first job I had a protein shake during the breakfast break (had already had a big oatmeal and eggs breakfast before work). An old lady took a sip from her dirty coffee mug (that probably was her breakfast) and pointed at my whey shake saying "that sh!t can't be good for you", then she walked away and started puffing on her cigarett.

Pair walking with prompting for always taking the stairs and doing simple exercises at home. You know, squats, push-ups, sit-ups, wall sits, all that jazz. There are a slew of apps and videos that can help you get into the groove, with those 7-minute workouts being quite popular.

Heck, taking up something as simple as jogging, dancing or yoga would do wonders. Throw in a healthier diet and you’re set.

I don't understand the workout -music connection. I don't even notice it in the gym. I don't listen to music even when I go out for a walk.

So, what are your thoughts on any of this? Wanna start that workout? Do it. You can scroll through memes on a treadmill too. And while you’re at it, let’s see how well you type something up for the comment section whilst jogging.

And if you want more sports scrollables, you’re welcome.
