Been there, seen this, dealt with this. In our case it was all of the power to half of a 24-unit apartment building. All 4 underground cables cut at 3:00 PM. Power not restored until 8:30 PM, with more work to be done the following day. The boss's son -- a truly nice guy who almost never messed up -- was the one who dug up the cables and damaged the main panel in the process. The tenants were not happy with us at all.

This is actually not a good thing. Most flood damage is caused by hydrostatic pressure as the water essentially crushes the building from the outside. There is a reason flood insurance requires the installation of flood vents, and there MUST be at least two, on opposite walls. It is to allow the water to flow through the building, relieving the pressure. Yes, the inside will get water damaged, but the building as a whole will be much more likely to survive without structural damage.

When I first moved into this house, I tried to cut a hole in the wall to install a telephone jack. The drywall saw blade bent and snapped. The walls are thick plaster, not drywall. The house was built in 1954: not that old, but old enough.

One of my first jobs was with a dodgy painting company. Myself and a young dude were left with a couple cans of varnish to finish a long hallway's worth of woodwork. We were so loopy and giggly after a few hours... probably lost a few i.q. points, but we had a good time.

The only tools I've ever regretted buying were the cheap ones that didn't last.

A wealthy friend looked at me with mild scorn and said, "It's pronounced Porch-A." "Until I see Porch-A grease under those fingernails, you're just an end user."

I own all the tools. The fact my husband doesn't take this as some sort of black mark against his masculinity is one of the things I like about him (plus he looks like Roy Kent 😉)

Too many levels of abstraction for me until I clicked for the reddit comments. It's a boat on the left, the machine on the right is known as a 'back höe' or just 'höe' in North America, "höe" is short-form of "whöre" meaning loose-moraled women, and lastly the apostrophe S is supposed to indicate a plural. So it means he likes boats and easy women. Please forgive me for the boomer-splaining.
