It's that "pulling your own weight" part that people gloss over. If you wanna live with your parents until you're 40, and they're okay with it, knock yourself out. But you'd better be contributing to the house, including splitting the cost of food and utilities (the food you eat and the water/electricity you use isn't free) at a minimum, otherwise you're not some edgy rebel who "refuses to conform to society, maaan"; you're a worthless, parasitic, sponging loser. People need to learn the difference.

I mean, the comic implies otherwise but theoretically the character in the comic and his mom might switch off weeks for doing laundry, or the mom does laundry and he does the dishes, or something. If you are living with your parents, there's definitely multiple ways to split chores fairly.

Okay, but what about people who can't live alone due to social or mental disorders that require a caretaker? Or people who live with a parent because either the parent doesn't have the means to support themselves or both parents live together still but one is such a self-involved narcissist that they don't provide or support the other, so the child has to help provide for the household and the ignored/abandoned parent? There's just as many viable reasons people might end up around their parent(s) as there are for moving away.

Everything has to do with capitalism and who exactly is the one defining what healthy habits are? You're also assuming that someone living with their parents has never lived alone and therefore has no idea. I lived in Australia for two years when I went to university. It's not my fault your selfish, judgy, and hate your family.

That isn't the way it works in all cultures or even ours pre WWII

Yes, I'm such a deadbeat with all the cooking and cleaning I did for my mother during the year it took her to recover from a broken arm because it had to be rebroken since it didn't heal properly, and this was during the pandemic where if I didn't live at home, it would have been left entirely to my dad.

My mother literally did not want me to leave because I always kept the kitchen clean and helped with the cooking. When my parents started working from home, I even spent $300 of my own money to buy IKEA furniture to organize their spaces better because I previously had a job working from home and knew the importance of a well organized space. The comments on this post just prove the point. They assume living with your parents means you're a deadbeat leach who doesn't do anything, but not all of us have toxic relationships with our parents.

I'd rather be single than poor.

Not everyone has toxic relationships with their parents. Some parents want their kids to be able to save up money. My parents were able to buy a house because they lived with my mom's parents for a while before I was born. And you're also operating under the notion that money is the only value somebody can offer and anyone who lives with their parents must not contribute in any way around the house.

Yep. Too many idiots think they're being edgy rebels who are just "fighting capitalism, maaan", when the reality is that they're simply parasitic, useless sponges. Nothing more.

It's not my problem if other people don't have parents.
