Nature In Black And White

As a landscape photographer I have learned that while nature can be unpredictable the black and white photography will always be a certainty. Black and white (B&W) photography is a tool that I often use to deal with difficult lighting situation, it allows me to create impactful images under different scenarios.

I have used B&W photography during sunny days to capture dramatic images. The bright blue sky of a cloudless day usually renders a deep black background that can be balanced by the strong light illuminating the selected subject. This dramatic contrast is striking to the human eyes, which often result on a deeper engagement with the audience. The B&W photography also allows me to create images during cloudy days. The flat light associated with cloudy days can help creating a sense of layering, thus increasing the feeling of depth on the image. The illusion of depth on a 2D media, when used correctly, can transport your audience to the photography location and time, thus creating a stronger connection between the image and its observer.

This gallery shows a series of image that I created under adverse weather and poor lighting conditions. You are going to find images of cloudy skies against tall mountains and rainy days on the beach. This work is aimed to share the concept that photography does not have to happen exclusive during the so dreamed ‘Golden Hour’.

Enjoy your journey and stay golden my friends
