    #6: '...you have to take his stories with a grain of salt.' It's a 'pinch' of salt. A story that is exaggerated has a grain of truth and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

    Roman Arendt: I've no idea where or when the 'pretty penny' saying came from, but once upon a time many centuries ago, a penny (pfennig, whatever) was the basic day-to-day unit of currency in the places where words like penny or pfennig apply - the larger pound (meaning pound of silver) being a bit much for most transactions.
