Of course - after all, the lighter is just an automated version of bit of flint striking steel, which as THE preferred method for lighting fires for thousands of years. The first automated lighter was derived from the wheel-lock musket when the latter appeared around 1500 and was simply a toothed wheel driven by clockwork rotates against bit of flint to create sparks. You could also add a bit of gunpowder as an accelerator. Unfortunately, they were very expensive, so only nobles got to have them until 1823, when Döbereiner "Feuerzeug" tabletop lighter was invented, a hilariously complicated and unsafe mechanism containing zinc and sulphuric acid to make hydrogen which then reacts with a platinum metal sponge to create a flame... Frankly, I'm not sure that one was an improvement...

1) taco bell isn't food. 2) there are very few national restaurant chains in the US, and therefore limited in it's selection of 'national' food chains. the poll evaluated restaurants by familiarity, quality and consideration. (Whatever consideration means... I mean, if you need something edible at 2am and don't want to cook it yourself...and happen to forget what happened last time...)

Nope, I've never eaten Taco Bell "food" either. I live super close to the Mexican border, and we have amazing Mexican food here. Oddly enough, there's a Taco Bell in town too. It always baffles me why anyone would choose to eat that c**p when we have so much excellent authentic Mexican food here. And yet, it stays open.

Taco Bell is not Mexican food, it's just fast food and more convenient that going to an actual restaurant if you are broke or in a hurry. The food quality is not comparable at all. Full transparency, I still go to Taco Bell sometimes, but I do NOT say "I'm going to get Mexican food".

As a native San Diegan, I firmly believe my city has among the best Mexican food in the U.S. That being said, however, I am not above the occasional Taco Bell night. But I do recognize it is not "Mexican food." It's got its own thing going on, and I still think it's delicious in its own way.

That's just so sad. I like Taco Bell for a quick fix, but it doesn't even compare to authentic Mexican. Enjoyed even the refried beans at an authentic Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, after having typical Americanized Mexican food on the Riverwalk. I can't stand American refried beans. At the "real" restaurant, they were so good. I can't even imagine eating in Mexico. Mmmmm.
