Narcissistic Grandma Threatens No Contact, Completely Loses It When Her Daughter Beats Her To It
It may take years of enduring torment before someone can stand up to a narcissistic parent. The fallout may be ugly when it happens, but setting boundaries is necessary to protect one’s peace.
This was the exact scenario for a woman who dealt with her overbearing mother her entire life. Things came to a head one day when her mom showed no regard for her young son’s safety.
She finally snapped, which intensified the rift. But as you will come to read, her reaction was long overdue.
For some people, standing up to an overbearing parent can take a lifetime

Emotional manipulation is part of the narcissistic parent’s playbook
According to the author, her mom threatened to block her for simply standing her ground. Such emotional blackmail is one of the key weapons that a narcissistic parent has in their arsenal.
As child and adolescent counseling clinical specialist, Dr. Stephanie Sarkis explains, these people view their children as extensions of themselves and use manipulation to maintain control.
“The parent will tell the child, or show through their actions, that the child is a burden and that if they were only a better child, the parent would be happy,” Dr. Sarkis wrote. “The root issue is that the narcissistic parent will never be satisfied.”
Dr. Sarkis mentioned long-lasting impacts of manipulative parenting, including low self-esteem, mental health issues like anxiety and depression, and difficulty establishing boundaries, to name a few.
Moving on from the pain of having an overbearing parent and protecting one’s peace requires addressing emotional manipulation once it happens. According to Very Well Mind, it is important to remember that you’re in control of your choices.
“You have the right to make the choices that are best for you, without feeling guilty about it. Don’t let guilt or fear drive your decisions,” an excerpt from the article reads.
It may have taken a while for the author to realize how unacceptable her mother’s behavior was. Fortunately, she finally decided to distance herself, for the sake of her and her family’s peace of mind.

Holy smokes! I thought I’d have a heart attack reading this. Every time she mentioned talking to, calling, or being with her mother, every fiber of my being was screaming “WHY?!” When she said her mother missed her kid being born, I wondered what in cow’s name she was doing WANTING that shrew there. Jesus; people suuure do a number on their kids. I’m scared OP is gonna lose both her kid and partner if she doesn’t cut ties, move away, and make it so her mother can’t ever find her. If ever there were someone who needs to jettison someone from her life, it’s this OP. Does she need to be shaken to understand how better her life will be without that thing in her life bringing them all down and endangering her kid?
But she doesn't want to cut off a mother from her daughter, have a heart and let her ruin another generati🥳 /s

Unpopular but true: The name "Pitbull" is not from nowhere. The Pit is where AH humans let dogs maul each other for entertainment. The Pitbull was bred to fight like a bull, hence the name. We should by no means do any harm to any of them, but we sure should not continue breeding a sort of dog, which is bred targeting maximum performance in the pit, and then try to convert them to tame family dogs. May work out well more often than not, but still, aggressive behaviour is partially genetic. Of course, existing ones are our, humans', obligation to care for, but there is no sound reason to breed pitbulls anymore, or even just allow them to. Just no. The Ma here? Nuts. Neither should anyone be exposed to her dangerous dog, nor should any animals' caregiver consider their life something to throw away easily by the next-best mishap. She's just ... totally nuts. Maybe even peanuts.
Needs to take a good look at her relationship with her mom. Even without the dog. Does she really want her kid to accept this as normal growing up?
She does. But it is harder than you think. I'm just over a year NC and it's the best decision I ever made but it took a long time to be ok with it

Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, and Jack Russell Terriers frequently exhibit territorial or anxious aggression and account for most nips and snapping, they do not k**l people. Pit Bulls, mixed-breed dogs including those with pit bull ancestry, German Shepherds as well as Rottweilers are the breeds account for the most severe bites and maulings. I would never let a child be around these breeds.
Wow just wow. She needs to just go no contact with that crazy women. I get its her mother but HER son comes first. Second, I see alot of people who hate pits. I get it, I really do. I have owned 2 of them. Nova and Bones. I was fortunate to have very well behaved ones. I worked with them since puppies as I do with any dog ive owned. I get that some of them are trained to fight to the d***h. Which is just disgusting to me. Like a comment above from someone who said they are a vet, they are the most dangerous and that may be true to an extent but in my opinion and experience, any dog can be dangerous. Op is smart to keep her son away from said dog and looney mom haha
Tell me you are (27F) without telling me you are (27F) - oh, right, using the term "boggart" without knowing what that even means.
Bless your ignorant, completely wrong, correction. The word IS bogart, not boggart. The term originated in the 1960s d**g culture and comes from iconic actor Humphrey Bogart, so zero excuse for your misspelling. Kindly don’t blame spellcheck, if it’s important enough for you to call someone else out on their use of a word, the least you can do is double check your spelling before posting. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the term has evolved from its original meaning of hogging something, to mean acting like a bully or using intimidation to force your way into something. That looks like a spot on description of mom’s approach.

She is the kinda of owner that give pibbles a bad name, they are loving amazing dogs WITH THE RIGHT OWNER ! which mother clearly isn’t poor dog is anxious all the time, easy to see why tbh so its aggressive, which makes poor dog even more dangerous, fear aggression has no bounds and it’s not just pibbles either !, ALL DOGS with fear aggression are down right bloody dangerous , worked with them all dogs and pibbles pre ban in uk ,op is 100% right to keep the little one safe ,it’s unfair to the dog as much as it is dangerous for the child, .if mother wants to see the baby so badly she can go to them !!! Time her mother grew up .
I assume you didn't see the reply in the original story from Big-Fig3260, who is a veterinarian and said that they're responsible for 2/3 of fatal dog attacks? Or do you just think it's not correct?
