46 Examples Of Double Standards In Our Society That You’re Probably Guilty Of
Equality is humanity's Holy Grail, the cornerstone of most value systems, but we have yet to reap all of its rewards. Sure, our society has tremendously evolved for the better during the last, say, 100 years, but a long journey is still ahead, and the vast array of double standards that still divide people to this day highlight this perfectly.
The double standard definition states that it is a rule or a principle applied to different people or groups. The most prominent case of double standard examples to this day come from gender equality. What's usually okay for men, is not acceptable when done by women. Starting with beach attire and ending with lady bosses, society finds unnecessary ways to chime in about what's wrong and what's right.
Bored Panda has compiled a list of insightful illustrations that uncover the uncomfortable truth behind some everyday life situations, and it's (mildly) disturbing how accurate they are. Judging by these images, it's clear that sometimes terms like 'gender equality' are reduced to no more than a catchphrase. Scroll down to see the proof for yourself, and vote for your favorites.

Double Standards
I hope this is an urban myth! I have breastfed my kids all over Europe and a couple of Latin American states, and no one ever as much as batted an eyelid. So my advice is, don’t give a damn, and no one else will! (And if they do, make a scene that they will remember).
It's not. It happened in Austin, Tx. Victoria's secret are the ones who called the cops.
Load More Replies...Like srls! Breasts were created only for feeding infants. Those porn stars or others made the stereotype that woman breasts are one of the sexual 'things'
Well, I think they ARE considered naturally "sexual" things in that people find them sexually attractive, but I do think that women's breasts are overly fetishized, which makes them seem, to unthinking members of society, as explicitly "dirty".
Load More Replies...I think this is mostly in prude america. Where they censor people's nipples in the media but not their face. A nipple is more important than someone's privacy lol.
Excuse me, but 'Murica is the leader of lascivious entertainment and behavior. We're number 1! We're number 1! U S A! U S A!
Load More Replies...It always amazes me how critical and stupid people are towards women. Without females, there would be no population!
While you are correct, technically both genders are necessary for our population to exist.
Load More Replies...I don't see a problem with someone feeding their kid anywhere. You can do yourself and the kid a favor, and use a light scarf, putting it over the shoulder and the kid, making it more snuggly for the kid, and less obvious for the moaners. I'm not saying this out of being prude, but more out of practical "modesty" as some are not mentally equipped to see a child getting fed when it needs it, and as an option to not having to go hide doing it. Ok, you don't need to take it to the extreme other, either. To the jerks suggesting going to the loo and do it, would you eat your dinner in the loo? i can serve it to you there if you want. so its down to - hungry baby? feed it, make it happy, and do it where and when it requires, and give the moaners a well-deserved sod-off-salute. I don't know where humanity went so wrong, that a mother feeding its whild is no longer tolerated other than by force.
Being under a scarf isn't snuggly for the kid. They're already warm from being against Mom do if it's not a particularly cold day, it's for the comfort of others. That's kind of what the point of this is about. You're fine with all the actual immodesty in the world because you like it. But you think mothers need to cover up with a light scarf or something so others will be comfortable with her feeding her child. Moaners can avert their eyes.

I get fake geek girl all the time! I wear big glasses, I dress differently and I do occasionally play games. People I know say I'm trying to be a fake geek girl or gamer girl and I have no idea what they mean. I'm not trying to be anything I'm just comfy this way! I'm glad it's not just me who experiences this
I was just thinking why would anyone tell anything to the geek girls? they are hot!
Load More Replies...Exactly. If you don't give a f**k and you're very vocal every time someone requests a f**k from you, people you know eventually get the point. People you don't know, c'mon: not even worth your time.
Load More Replies...Ugh... I'm in the last panel group: All my married friends have kids, and some of my single friends also have kids. I don't. I am married, and I DO NOT want to have kids. Why? Just because I don't feel that "motherhood call". That's it. If someone wants to have kids and be stay at home mom, that's great!! If they want to be a working mom, or just don't have kids... great!! Just let every woman live their lives and follow their dream, whether with kids or without them. But time to time I get that whole "when are you gonna have babies?" (I've been married for 9 years now) And when I say I don't want to have kids, sometimes I get "the looks", and sometimes it DOES make me wonder "am I being selfish? am I immature?".
No you are not selfish or immature. And you are not alone. Isn't it great that women can choose whether to have children or not and still get married and follow their dreams?!

OMG! I get that all the time! My wardrobe is almost completely black, and everyone says that I'm emo. I'm not. I don't get it. It's never like that with boys. Why is it like that with girls?

They do this in some parts of Europe and Australia and we all use to go to the nude beaches in the '70's, so no big deal.
Load More Replies...Same with body hair. Men are so disgustingly everywhere! Buuut if you are women and if you haven't shaved your legs for a few days, 'you are not feminine"
You know something I find kind of interesting? So some men are attracted to breasts and treat them like sexual things, which is one main reason why people say women can't go topless because it just encourages people to harass us. The funny thing is some women are attracted to the abs/muscles on men yet they can go topless and we don't harass them.
Weird enough, I find manboobs a tad attractive. Then again, I'm bisexual so I also like women breasts very much. And ripped pectorals, why not. When they're not the result of performance enhancers. I do not harass neither, though.

I once read a post that went "I just realized I've never seen a male plus size model" and I think it's really sad that men don't get the same kind of body positivity women do? True, they tend to be shamed less, but a lot of guys must still feel insecure about their looks.

For the record, I'd be annoyed by both. The first guy would annoy me more. All that fake charm just doesn't work on me anymore. But I do agree it can be a double standard.
Now this is one b******t double standard that I have been calling out for awhile. I think it sucks, and I am a female.
This is 100% TRUTH!!! Look at the perception of Barbie today. A lot of people are upset because she represents an unobtainable image for most women. Yet look at EVERY single action figure toy that guys have to compete with.. Superman, He-Man, Batman(also RICH), and so on. Complete DOUBLE STANDARD!!!!!!!!!! but that's ok, because equality and stuff right...

I'm especially affected with this because I have a Batman shirt. I'm definitely not a fake geek girl and I'm not trying to be. :P

Lol i kinda feel the guy. I see a person wearing this and i think great we have something in common. Then u talk to him or her and they say nah i just like the shirt. Its anoying

Body Standards
it always pisses me off when people say stuff like this. Whether it's about skin color or weight or even gender. PEOPLE CAN COSPLAY WHOEVER THE HELL THEY WANT NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE OR WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE.
People should understand that those who cosplay, do it because it is fun, and because they want to dress up and pretend they are the character they admire and like. They don't do it to please others and get their approval.
Their bodies heard they were talking trash and got disappointed in society.
Load More Replies...How many times have I seen that at cons. Not everyone can be size zero with big tits like not everyone can have a six pack.
Oh everyone can have six-packs, the question is whether the person is prepared to make the sacrifice for those 6 silly bloated muscles.
Load More Replies...I find that true cosplayers are accepting of others cosplay. They are looking at the time and effort put into it, not if you are accurately that physique. The idea of being a character is what makes it fun. I hate people who tear others down.
That's a heart sign at the end of the sentence which didn't go through. No hate, just love for curvy Lara.
Load More Replies...Double Standards For Parents
That's really annoying. I only have an experience as a passer-by or a witness but I can say some people indeed are narrow-minded enough to act like that.
Yep, happens. All. The. Time. Plus, when someone wants to complain about our kids' behaviour, in nine our of ten cases they address me, and neither my husband NOR my children. This is frustrating for me, and a total disenpowerment not only to my husband (who works hard to still do his 50% share of bringing up our kids) but also to my children.
Load More Replies...I was a stay at home dad for two kids for seven years and the garbage I had to put up with, (mostly from women, I'll add) was fairly epic at times. I actually had people try to take my children out of my arms because they thought I didn't know what I was doing because I'm male. Dads are assumed to be idiots when it comes to child rearing and it's demeaning and infuriating.
7 years with 4 children, here. Exact same experience. And when our youngest when into school and I was preparing to go back into the workforce, it's "I don't know why he would bother. It's obvious he can't hold down a job".
Load More Replies...Raised my kid as a single dad and got a whole lot more compliments than women who do the same...
I think a good one to add to this on the dad side, "Oh you're helping your wife out with the kids?" ...
Not to mention that society assumes that in order to be a good and normal woman you must have kids. If you happen to say you don't like kids you get informed "it's different when you have your own" as if it's a given you will have kids because you're a woman.
I personally don't care if women don't want kids, but around here lots of women don't, or they get them very late (30-35) to accomodate for career. I got my first one at 24 and am 4 years later still the only one in both my family and group of friends with a kid x) I myself actually get tired of al the harsh comments of some people who don't want kids - they sometimes really try to make me feel like having a kid was a crime. Which I'd like them to look in my daughters face and have the heart to say, honestly.
Load More Replies...My husband had to take care of our daughter when I went on a business trip. His friends and colleagues all helped babysit her and also practically gave him the Nobel prize!!! It was more than 20 years ago, and I'm still pissed off about it.
If you're hearing all of this c**p, you're hanging around the wrong people.
As a mom of 3 little people-I've had all of these happen to me. It's the 'economy of gratitude.' At least my husband notices this stuff too and that means a lot.
not quite...more like, "Are those your kids?" "Where's their mother?" "What kind of father are you, buying that stuff?"....yeah, and way worse...

Load More Replies...Double Standards On Emotions
I hate the idea that males shouldn't cry at all. It bothers me so much because it's a natural thing for all humans, male or female.
All things equal men are far less prone to crying than women and that's down to biology. Most gender stereotypes are actually deeply rooted in biological differences which over time concretize in culture.
Load More Replies...This should be higher up. It's not as funny, but way more comprehensive than the others and shows how damaging the current gender stereotypes are to women AND men.
So what really annoyed me was when I had a female employee who worked really hard on a project and knew it in and out. So we went to the meeting with (male)client - and he'd only talk to me. Every question was to me, and every time I'd turn to Ms. and repeat the question, and she'd answer. Then next question, again to me. I mean, if it's not to vulgar, WTF? She was the expert who'd lead the project ajdnInwas there only as her boss who'd assigned her the project she'd done so well. But, being a male, apparently I was the expert, no matter what. Sickening.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that it is scientifically proven that crying releases hormones that make you upset, and is therefore beneficial to you. And even if that isn't true, I still think that people should be able to cry no matter what gender.
OMG every single one of them is true... women has to find their "proper" place in business that's usually what's normal place to be for men. and men are expected to be emotionally mute to be seen as strong. like come onnnn
Body Positivity
The fact that they are both eating the same thing in the same portion size just really makes this extra sad.
And people have no idea what the bottom girl might suffer from. I eat maybe 1500-1800 calories a day but I am 100 pounds over weight due do chemo and steroids to control my autoimmune diseases. I could lose the weight real fast if I stopped taking the meds- I also would not be able to walk, would lose the function of my kidneys, and my heart would swell - but I would be thin. So personally I will deal with being fat.
oh no! next time anyone tries to shame you for that, i send you my love❤
Load More Replies...I'm obese, pack a healthful lunch & snack. People ask "is that ALL you're eating?!" As if I couldn't possibly eat healthfully & be fat.
For those saying that fat people are fat because they want to, please take a second before typing to let your brain work and remember that one's weight does not strictly and exclusively depend on how much/what you eat or how many hours you spend at the gym. Genetics, body complexion, hormonal disorders, hypothyroidism, among other things DO affect on a person's body shape/weight.
Flora, same here. I'm lucky if I feel well enough to fit in two meals a day if that and weigh 240 because of health s**t. Went through cancer when I was 18 and was treated with an adult regimen of chemo that left behind massive damages they still can't pinpoint. I was my ideal weight before that and ate plenty. Now I barely eat at all and am overweight.
Load More Replies...This one has been done to me. And you never know if the person on the bottom is starving themselves because of their weight and that's there first meal in who knows how long. Maybe she didn't CHOSE to be overweight (like most people DON'T choose). Some people CAN'T loose weight no matter what they do. Just because you see a "fat" person eating a unhealthy food doesn't mean that one meal right there is why they're fat.
The problem here isn't that she is fat, and the body-shamers are just haters, who cares what they ever think. The real problem here, is that girls think (because of different magazines and commercials imo) that being thin is superior to being fat. I mean, the girl on the bottom is the one i would have turned twice to get a better look, not the one on the top.
Load More Replies...Oh, finally a double standard that isn't just about gender :D And sadly, so true!
This is so true. People are always judging me based on what I eat, I've gotten to the point that I start informing them that I'm not overweight because I eat too much or the wrong food it's because of my medical conditions. You can't fight weight gain as a medication side effect when 3 of the medications you're on cause weight gain.
This double standard needs to change. BOTH of them are eating unhealthy food. It isn't right to slander one and let the other one think that it's "cute" to eat horrible food. The issue here isn't the weight. People who are overweight know that they are; and they don't need an unwarranted opinion from a stranger. At the same time, I am tired of people saying that it can be hard to make healthy eating a choice. (Talking to both overweight, skinny, fat, obese, thin people.) It isn't hard to swap that soda for some water, is it? If you really think it is, then you probably won't accomplish much in your life. The diets of Americans promote an early death. Thin or fat. It isn't good to put that food in your body.
Generalization
Wish I could say the same for me. But I think I'm the absolute opposite. Still, the best mathematicians in my class are girls.
Load More Replies...Both of them suck at math... the answer is (x^3)/3 + C, provided you're integrating over x
Y'all, it's not about the maths thing, it's about how people blame the whole female population if a few girls are bad at something
You mean like "all men think about is how to get sex"?
Load More Replies...Blaming something on gender is just lazy. People cling onto the biggest difference and say that is the reason for the problem.
So true. This is probably one of the most stupid mental processess that many people are capable of. When a man makes mistake, it had some racional reason. When a woman makes mistake, it was because she is a woman. Sad, it is not?
Don't mean to brag but... One of two GIRLS who got the highest math final scores, and highest overall math grade. And yeah, I'm a girl. ;D
The other day my boyfriend and two friends were debating about politics and my boyfriend started explaining some math stuff related to the topic to his bestie (guy). Myself and his girlfriend were just listening to this part. The bartender came to take our order and started "jokingly" saying "oh you girls okay? you must be so lost in this conversation". Like b***h please girls do math very well thanks.
That's what my dad says to me whenever I fail at something. He also believes women are genetically inferior to all men including him.
That could not possibly be true. Not many are inferior to that man

That was a nice little read while on break at my own job. Sometimes women have to work harder and overcompensate just to be taken seriously. But I feel like I've definitely come out better and stronger for it. Thanks for sharing!

The type of "man" you can find on the internet.. you can disagree with him on ANY subject. And you're a feminazi. (if they find out you're a woman of course). That's their go-to to discredit you. I like to think for most of them, the incel c**p is just a phase.
Well, there really are feminazis and it's rare to find an honest feminist, but that would be a different topic. One way to dismantle the assumption that this cartoon raises would be with your own comment, several agree with you and most likely one of them is a man.
Load More Replies...I love being underestimated & viewed as I can't be intelligent, then once I'm validated as giving correct information get completely ignored..
The one who created this cartoon is definitely living a fantasy. The world is not like that.
It wouldn't even matter if it was a man or woman, if you said it exactly like that, you'd most likely put your opponent on the defensive. You have to know how to disagree with others to start with. Hint: you don't do it by plainly saying they are wrong.
Makeup vs. Natural
So damn true. One time I overheard my coworkers talking and these two guys were discussing about "girls who put makeup are so insecure, it's like they couldn't even go out without makeup if their life depended on it". Then another day in the same week, I was so tired I decided not to put makeup. The very same guy saying this was like "omg what happened to your face?". Yeah no wonder why women are "so insecure"...
Well Anna... f'ck them. People like them, does not deserve to matter anyway.
Load More Replies...don't worry once you get past 50, no one notices whether you're wearing makeup or not, nice clothes or not, they just don't look anymore!
Well, it also depends on whether they've only ever seen you with makeup on. People will notice if your face changes completely suddenly... like when you always wears large glasses and suddenly take them off and people will be wondering if your face always looked like that.
I hate it when I put on a bunch of makeup to go to the theater for a play and people are like, "Dude, are you a fckn drag queen?!" and I'm like, "NO, I'm in the play. We wear makeup on stage."
Some guy at work was once talking about how he thought that ALL women should use makeup and do their hair and whatever for work/ at home/going out/... "because they should always make themselves look pretty"... I was like "b*tch please, how about you go put on some makeup and go look pretty... " (I mean, looking nice for meeting clients and what not, I get that but I work as a cleaner (and most people there are all warehouse employees) and I start at 7 am, there ain't no way I'm getting up 2 hours in advance just to do my hair and makeup just for work :P )
I didn't wear make up to work one day and 3 people asked me if I was okay.
I've even heard women tell other women, "You look tired." I'm thinking, "You know that's an insult, right?"
I don't wear makeup, so I don't have to deal with this. I can't even imagine...
Gender Equality
There's been at least one other too before, in Beast Wars.
Load More Replies...Literally no guy nor fan of the Transformers has ever said this. Especially fans, because they will KNOW there was a female Transformer before!
This says SO MUCH about how things work in so many minds. Males are the 'default gender', and females are 'other'. Thing about almost every cartoon character ever created since Micky Mouse. The first one is ALWAYS male, later they introduce the 'love interest' - who has to be decorated with all the femininity signifiers, in Minnie's case eyelashes, a bow, dress and frilly knickers *that are always on show*. Ick!
Why do they have to reboot all these classic shows/movies to make them more PC? The New Ghostbusters movie was an abortion. Leave the classic stuff alone and just write new PC shows/movies. Stop ruining our childhoods with political correctness.
you realise that the original stuff still exists right? now do remakes even effect the originals?! they don't

Shameless Girls
Ah ! The classic old Indian aunties with their s****y thoughts ... They can show a mile long gap between the blouse and the Saree , but a crop top is too revealing . Once , I wore a crop top , one lady said " please go change , what you're wearing isn't pleasant to look " WTF ?
Honestly, this is so freaking true. I'm not Indian, but I am Muslim and I have seen this happen so much. These freaking hypocrites bother me so much. And if you try to tell them about it, they're all like "Oh no, this is cultural, that's not. There is a big difference!" As if!!!
This actually happend to me when I was teacher at an Indian high school years ago!
To be 100% fair, I think that’s for religion of transition or something
Double Standards
Women don't get round, they get curvy in all the right places. And that's sexy af.
Yea, I don't think most athletic guys would agree with this. Honestly, fat just kinda blends in better on a woman's frame than it does on a guys.
I feel like this is the opposite, when women gain a little weight it's curvy and sexy, but when men gain a little weight it's gross. Either one gaining a lot of weight is gross but when it comes to small amounts I feel like women can get away with it more
Reminds me of Family Guy when Peter says, "only fat women are fat." As though men can't also be such.
On men they're not called "love handles" anymore. They're called b***h tits.
This is an awful double standard and one that can plague both genders.
I think change is sexy. On both women and men as long as they're happy with the way they look.

It's how you assert. I don't see anyone calling Daenerys Targaryen a b***h. Also I don't see anyone call Donald Trump a leader.

Girls vs. Boys
That's true. Girls get bashed if she slept with a guy then that guy spreads a rumor abt them. Guy gets cheered on and a girl gets bashed.
Women are taught to bash each other. I remember the older women in my family always had something negative to say about every woman that crossed their way. My mother always felt the need to comment on stranger's clothing and appearance and my grandmother informed me when I was in college that a degree wasn't worth as much as learning how to keep a home. When I was a teenager I remember my mother commenting on a larger woman heading into a store in front of us about how someone with her body should never wear tight pants. I just got sick of it and asked her why the hell she cared about what a stranger looked like. Also, I was taught to be pretty and sexy, the women in my family bragged about the attention I got from men, but if a different girl got attention it was because she was a s**t. Took me a long time to grow out of that hypocritical teachings.
Load More Replies...I hope one day women start putting notches on their bedposts & hi-fiving each other over conquests! Just because a woman enjoys sex & has different partners doesn't give anyone the right to make her an outcast. Sadly this is all too real.
If a man sleeps with different women he is a player but if a women sleeps with different me she is a whore aka prostitute
Honestly ....idk any girl who bashes someone another girl for sleeping around ? I don't think anyone cares. It's more surprising to hear ur a virgin than anything lol
Double Standards On Young Girls
If you're a true pro-life, instead of blaming a stranger, do something towards building a society where abortion is not needed. Same goes for (extremist) pro-choicers - instead of hating on some women's decisions, let's do something towards building society where abortion is not something a womam does because "she had no other choice".
And this comic depicts these needs perfectly! (Phew, not to be misunderstood....)
Load More Replies...And the f*****g truth is, that nobody blames the absent man who obviously made the baby! It´s always only the woman´s problem. vomit...
That is always the case, isn't it? I am glad someone here has mentioned that sad fact. Men are just as responsible as women for every pregnancy, yet they assume less than 1% of the responsibility for birth control. One thing that really chaps my hide is men complaining about abortions when they themselves have had unprotected sex with women. Sharing that category are all the sanctimonious Christians condemning abortion, while supporting the troops, desptite all the children they murder in other countries. WTF??!
Load More Replies...I personally would not have an abortion but I would never knock someone for that being their choice. I think people should really learn to mind their own business and stop thinking they have the right to dictate what others do.
I find it nothing short of amazing that so many people complain so bitterly about their taxes funding things like women's health care, including abortion, child care, nutrition assistance, education grants and welfare, but not a word about the 60+% of the entire bulk of our taxes being skimmed right off the top to fund the military invasion and occupation of other countries and the murder of their people.
Dude... it should be the mother's choice if she has the child or not. Not the law's choice, the mother's choice. If she believes that it's wrong, then that's her choice. If she believes it's right, then it's her choice. Honestly.
Then, it should be father's choice to pay or not for children.
Load More Replies...I don't like abortion, but it at times is a necessary evil. I like it even less when the same people who are against abortion are against taking care of mothers as a society (or anyone who needs supporting). I honestly don't think you can be Christian (most conservative pro-lifers are) and be against taking care of your fellow man and woman.
There is a third option in this debate that's not represented. It's not just abortion or single parenthood. There's always adoption too.
Yes, there is. But, sadly, it's not so simple. The problem is that not all women have safe pregnancies, but sometimes laws stop doctors from acting quickly and do what's right in the given situation.
Load More Replies...I want to take this opportunity to bring up the topic of body anonymity. What will happen to your body when you die? Will you be buried, cremated, planted with a seed to nourish a tree? How about you donate your body to science? It could be used to save possibly countless lives! Why doesn't everyone donate their body? In fact, it should be mandatory, shouldn't it? It might save lives, and it would totally save tons of space vs burning you. But are you going to go out right now and sign your body over to a university? Probably not. You'll probably opt for a regular ceremony and burial in a fancy cemetery somewhere where your relatives will toss some flowers on your headstone once every blue moon. If we can't force someone to donate their body to science, we can't force them to carry a baby they don't want. It's the same principle. You save lives but give up your body, or you keep your body and let someone else make that contribution. It should be up to you, shouldn't it?
The word you are after is autonomy, not anonymity.
Load More Replies...I'm a young single mom and I have to deal with a lot of judgements from others. Our society is so wrong that I keep thinking.. oh they must think this of this about me. I always feel like I have to prove and explain and it's real bad for my confidence as a Mother. I worry enough without the standards and judgements from others. They don't know why I'm a single mother or how tough it can get. I work and in september I'm going to start a HBO study. I want to give my son a bright future and I do everything for a smile on his face. I do believe there needs to be done more to stop women from getting unwanted pregnant but it will always be a problem. So it's good that there is the opportunity to get an abortion. Sometimes it's the best thing to do, but it can be very traumatic for a women. A child needs his both parents, but not when it would grow up in a toxic environment. For us it's better like this, now I can be the best, loving and stable mom that he need.
Sometimes, it's better to split. If you don't feel good in the relationship, your child will certainly not, and it will be better to have a single good, stable and functional parent that can care, than two halfwits fighting each other, often causing trauma and instability for the kid. Just like you, get it over and done with. Better things will come. People are b****y by nature as they always knows your situation better than you do, and stick their noses where they don't belong. Good luck to you and your son, and give the knowbetters your two-finger salute. Trust me, sometimes, some "friends" are not really that much of friends, and you are better off without them. I myself, keep tabs on them, and if they go too deep in the red for the wrong reasons, sometimes, it's better just to cut lose, get new friends that are better for you. Remember that a good friend is one that stays with you when it gets rough. Just remember to reciprocate when they need it.

I think only women have a problem with this. I can't imagine guy's really finding this a big deal. XD Also on the beach people sunbathe topless as well so. As far as armpit hair. Well you're free to do it. But people are also free to not find you attractive then. But there are all kinds of things people find attractive and not attractive so I don't really see a problem.
Captain Planet, you're missing the point. Women don't have the freedom to go out in public shirtless, even if it were legal. When a woman does it, they get cheers, whistles, sexual propositions, and so much more attention than they even want. That's the point. They get unwanted attention. Because, after all, so many men assume that a woman who is dressed skimpily for the weather is doing it for attention - not for the real reason - because it is HOT outside!!! Women are stuck between a rock and a hard place - it is a lose-lose situation.
Load More Replies...I don't get the issue with body hair. I'm all for girls having body hair. Shaving your legs and armpits constantly is a pain in the a*s, especially if you have sensitive skin. The hair is thinner on women anyway, so it's not like it's "manly". Hygiene is a really dumb argument to bring into things nowadays (I've also heard a pro-circumcision argument saying it was cleaner!) since most people in developed countries have access to a bath or shower and therefore don't need to remove hair because of matting or lice or what have you.
Well that was the idea of circumcision - hygiene - but unless you don't shower for months like they used to I'm pretty sure that point is moot these days.
Load More Replies...Breasts are organs that are only fully developed in females, so having your breasts out is problematic. And men don't get shamed on for having lots of body hair because men grow lots of it pretty quickly, so shaving it all the time is a waste. But women's body hair grows slowly, and if a woman does not shave in the loads of time it takes for body hair to grow, that can often mean she does not care about her hygiene.
Ummm.... women can wash themselves without shaving, and I don’t know how fast men’s body hair grows back but for women it becomes visible again if you haven’t shaved in like a day maybe two. It won’t be super long but it will be visible. So you have to take the time to shave every single day in order to keep your legs smooth. It can get very tedious and the fact that men aren’t expected to do this at all just doesn’t seem very fair. Not to mention the razors marketed torwards women are often more expensive and don’t work as well. Body hair on women doesn’t mean that they don’t wash themselves it means they don’t shave themselves. There is absolutely no connection between the two things and I’m honestly having a hard time figuring out where you made one.

Who came up with this comic? I know a lot of men (including myself) that would date a woman like that. Not all men like tall, skinny, super-models. As a matter of fact, I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of men like a woman who has some meat on her bones.
That's cause the majority of men don't have access to beautiful women. It's an acquired taste.

Society's Take On Men
The second one will always be an idiotic statement, for both male and female. I hear it a lot, yet don't understand why it's a race to get intimate with another person. It's a personal experience and (can be) something special, on top of that: It's none of another's business, and if those think it is, they're the ones leading a sad life. Sure, the term "Lucky at cards, unlucky in love" is on it's place in this regard, but luck can switch lanes now and then.
I think the logic is that people tend to assume guys are always looking for sex, so if they're not having it it must mean no women want them, so that's why they get called sad losers. Nobody takes into account that the guy might have better things to think of than getting laid with anyone as fast as possible.
Load More Replies...Crying is a human trait not a weakness, being a virgin is a noble standard, body image assessment shouldn't be an issue if you're healthy.
For the second one, it's only sad if the guy really wants to have sex and is desperate to get it yet hasn't. Honestly, I think that anyone who is desperate for sex is sad whether they get it or not. But a man who is still a virgin by choice, I think is very manly, very principled and a very strong person who is capable of controlling his own urges and desires until the time that he deems appropriate. That sort of self-control and maturity is what is really manly and attractive.
Wanting sex but not being able to attain it because of how you look is indeed sad for anyone.
Dad Bod vs. Mom Bod
Have we totally forgotten how milf went ? Not that that was great but, seriously ? Which one do we pick? Can we just be who we are, male, female, or however, and just be happy? The insecurity is mind blowing to me, on behalf of the observer!
When I think "MILF," I think Rachel Hunter in "Stacy's Mom." When I think "dad bod," I think Peter from "Family Guy." One body type takes a bit more work.... quality animation is more complex than one might think.

Sexual Harassment
How is this a relevant comparison? How about comparing the reaction you get as a male when telling someone about being a victim of sexual assault.
Yes, that should be the comparison here. You're right. Thing is -- when majority of women are blamed for sexual assault, do you think men stand a chance of getting the proper treatment as SA victims? No way! If women can get better respect, not victim blamed, then so can men. One step at a time. But yeah... men need to be able to report this crime, too, and not feel least bit at fault. Let's work towards that.
Load More Replies...This is true. Though if a man is sexually harassed plenty of people refuse to recognise it for what it is. If a woman says a stranger groped her crotch, we understand she might have been traumatised by it. But if a man says the same thing we just assume he must have liked it and he should be happy for some free stimulation. Especially if the attacker was a woman that was at least half-decent looking.
Thank you for recognizing that men can also suffer from this.
Load More Replies...Your right, instead we report rape and get literally laughed at. Because men have no f*****g rights when it comes to sexual violence to wards us, because it's precived as a non-issue in society.
I think its because its more common that women get raped nowadays. And women are losing less and less rights to step forward too bc everyone says "she's probably just lying" because of all the fake accounts from others. I wish they'd just do a full investigation for both genders instead of saying they're faking.

An appropriate comparison to the girl would be a man who get groped at his a*s by a woman: the reaction towards him in general would be something like "cool, didn't you enjoy!?"
Which sucks for him though because he very well could have felt taken advantage of but since he's a man he won't get the appropriate help

Of course, when girls get assaulted it is a travesty and needs to be dealt with. the same if a man assaults a boy but when a woman assaults a boy it is different. Because he is male then obviously he wanted to get laid as all males, especially young ones, do. That is the true double standard we overlook in society.
And this is not talked about enough! Where are the cartoons highlighting men's issues?

Any response other than disgust could easily be misinterpreted as sexual interest or pedophilia. While technically women can be pedophiles, I honestly can't think of a single case of such that.
Yeah, if you look for them, you can definitely find female child sex offenders. I think women tend to be less "suspected" though because of the bias of women automatically being assumed as "motherly", so many people question seeing a single man around children, but might not think twice about a lone women around them. Otherwise, lots of sexual assaults don't make national news, more men tend to be arrested for violent crimes for one reason or another... there are lots of possible reasons why we don't see as many women.

Comic Book Characters
Honestly, I have a problem with either gender of superhero being displayed in a sexual manner.
Honestly I have no problem with either gender of superhero being displayed in a sexual manner
Load More Replies...This is false equivalence. The designs of characters such as Namor or He-Man are called male fantasies - they're a projection, in which readers can picture themselves in strong bodies. Even if they're unclothed it's extremely rare that they only exist for fanservice - this is almost never valid for female characters, who are drawn in a specific way for the reader's gaze. Tl;dr: Look up the Hawkeye Initiative and THEN complain about objectification.
But men are the ones who drew Superman like that, not women. He's not drawn like that for women, he's drawn like that a male power fantasy. Anyone who knows anything about the history of comics would know that.
Namor is not stylized in an unnatural pose to showcase his junk but to appeal to men again, as a muscular idol. He wouldn´t be that uncovered if he wouldn´t be wearing a swim suit. What is the purpose of Power girls boobs exposing costume? Spiderwomans crazy sex poses? Compare her to spidermans. Any female game character ever? - everything unrealistic things from men for men
There is a big difference between the two. Women superheroes are often sexualised in their costumes specifically for male eyes. Men are often portrayed as being stronger than life, more muscles etc., written for men to project on. They aren't 'sexualised' in the same way. Both should be changed to meet realistic body types.
Well....her ta-tas are oozing out and his wee-wee is covered with that small shell...hmmmmm...what if one of his balls was hanging out?
This is what is wrong with the superhero culture in general, none of them dress according to what they're doing.
Yes, as a woman I would like to say it out loud that we tend to see male body as an object in a similar way that men look at females. And just because we have fewer opportunities to do it and it's less socially acceptable, doesn't make it morally superior. No double standards mean no double standards.
Sexualizing Bodies
I think they over sexualize super heroes, but there is a difference. The male characters are being portrayed as strong, the women as sexual. If female super heros looked more like Serena Williams or Kerri Walsh it would be different.
Male-superheroes are not showed or painted as 'sexy'. Women-heroes are painted as sexy, sluty, like saying "please f**k me now". And if women want Superman, Batman or any other hero, they want them because of their strength and courage, not because they were painted as "please f**k my with your boobs".
I get that both the male and female cartoon stereotypes are somewhat over-sexualised. As Marina pointed out, most of these designs were made by men for men - that strong-man image is about male ego, made by men, for men. Hetero men. And there's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to be strong and protective of the people around you. I get the point that Superman and Batman are kinda muscle-bound from the era in which they were made. As a straight lady my real-life choice would not be a muscular man. Also, I am not overkeen on seeing very muscular women. The reason that the supergirl image here is sexist is that the central focal point of the art is her tits. That's the spot your eye goes to first and it's straight down her cleavage. ¬.¬ So if you want them to be equally sexualised get rid of Superman's pants and sleeves, remove his iconic S so we can see how much chest hair he has and make his junk sit central to the image. But you know - that would be stupid :P
The super heroine is still made into a sex object due to hole in her costume almost allowing her breasts to spill out. Superman to be as sexualized would have to have a crotchless costume. That ain't ever going to happen.
Superheroes, no matter what gender they are, should have practical armour suitable for fighting. There is no use in armour sexualizing your heroes, or untrained bodies and giant boobs. Women, too, need to be strong and muscular to be successful fighters. So, the first picture is sexist indeed.
This is not the same thing. The same thing would be a fully clothed muscular woman or a scantily clad male superhero with an over-enhanced 'package'.
Ain't no woman look at a Superhero poster like that?? Are you for real? Thor could smack me in the face with his "hammer" and my nether regions would still be unaffected.
Equality
We were playing around, play fighting when I kicked my husband in the balls. It wasn't on purpose and I instantly felt horrible as he spent about 5 minutes in pain on the floor. The worst he got me was an elbow to the nose that caused a nose bleed, and one where he slammed my back into the thermostat. Literally last week my husband asked "Why don't we wrestle anymore" and all that flashed through my head. I don't like the idea of women hitting men any more than a man hitting a woman. The only fighting I am okay with is play fighting.
I don't get physically assaulting anybody for saying anything. I'd only kick a dude in the balls if he were assaulting me.
If a woman hits a man, she should expect to be hit back. I'm sick of the double standard where only women can be raped when we know that's not true and it's only considered assault if it's a man hitting a woman.
I'm a dude. I like my balls. But If a dude is being a creep and he doesn't leave and you feel threatened and you feel like you HAVE to engage in physical confrontation... For example, if he tried to rape you or grope you... You kick him in the nuts. Not just a kick, put some torque in it, make a shoryuken to the balls. As hard as you can. If a male human fights a female human there is, like, 90% of a chance that he's way stronger than her and he will definetly outpower her. That is why I feel that it's acceptable to kick a dude in the nuts as long as it's left as a last resort... Just pointing that "Last Resort" part one more time... Because... We're not animals anymore... We can solve most problems just fine by talking like civilized people. Most. But if everything else fails, kick to the nuts it is.
Wow, don't hit or kill at any time. Talk it out, probably yell, but don't physically hurt someone you donkeys.
Ucan literally kill lots of sperm cells, hence babies when u kick someone in the balls
I am waiting for it to be unacceptable for women to hit men. Joey Tribianni was a pioneer
Double Standards
Yuck. This is a complete false equivalence and really sexist. Not being able to get a job because of your gender is not the same thing as getting a free drink because a waiter thinks you're cute (which could happen to either sex). This comic also implies that women flirt to try to get things for free, which isn't true of ANY of the women I know and is a sexist stereotype.
ive been on 5 dates in my life and all the women i brought tried doing that but i took her wallet with out her knowing and made her pay😂

I'm so tired of seeing and hearing this fake scenario. This has never happened to me, nor has it happened to anyone I know. It MAY have happened for a few, but it's definitely not common and should never be used as an argument.
Until you go out with a guy then think he's a cheap piece of Sh!t because he doesn't offer to pay.

I don't agree with this one. Men get a lot of pressure on their bodies, as much as women. There is not a single person I met who said that they should "accept themselves" as a way to solve their problems (with getting laid). On the same note, any magazine cover will show that makeup is not a way to solve problems, or there wouldn't be 254 pages of the "new amazing diet already used by 45 stars that will make you lose weight before you even realize it". And we also have countless articles on "accept yourself and screw who doesn't, you don't need them anyway"...
I completely agree. As a female I find both male and female stereotypes frustrating.

"Accept themselves and get laid" How does that even work? You get fine with yourself and girls automatically like that instead of trying to work on yourself...
This is not the case. There's money to be made in making men feel bad too. Get down the gym and drink this protein shake!

Double Standards
The point is that some things develop in utero before gender is even specified. Nipples are one of these.
Load More Replies...Because all eggs in i woman's body, they all have approximately the same genetic material. The gender comes from the male's sperm. Sperm have x and y, so xx is a girl, and xy is a boy. But because we all start out with at least one x, some parts of our bodies are the same, even if they don't have a real function. Nipples are one of these parts, so really the answer to your question can be answered by looking at the development of an embryo. I am twelve, and even I know this. I wonder if there is anthing else I can help you understand? Sincerely, a random twelve year old on Boredpanda.
We're working on it. In Alberta bars, the breasts are no longer considered "nudity". A few other jurisdictions have eliminated toplessness laws. Men do get told off for being topless in most social situations, and unless working out of doors the employer won't allow it. I worked on a road construction crew, and everyone had to wear a shirt, with at least 2" long sleeves, at all times.

yeah why do we have them and also why are women told to cover their nipples. it doesn't make sense.

I kinda like emotional boys more, like, atleast they aren't like those "badass" shitsacks like others. Also, expressing emotions is actually good for own body.
If men were more emotionally intelligent, the male suicide rate wouldn't be as high.
It's funny how they think the main reason why men aren't usually emotional is simply because of some macho stereotype or some kind of nonsense. When in reality, it is the women themselves who perpetuate that. Women tend to like tough and strong guys, those who can solve their problems alone without getting anxious for every 5 minutes. We simply strive to look attractive, throughout history you can see how we try a thousand and one ways to make a woman we like fall in love and in practice, it has been shown that crying does not achieve that
men with no emotional confuse me. emo and "bad boys" A. do some of the weirdest things and B. aren't fun to hang around with because they just complain. and C. why do people find bad girls/boys/others or emo kids hot
I wanna cry myself watching a man cry his heart out to me and express his feelings.🥰🥰
Standards For Dressing
Wait... what is this trying to say, even? What I gather is that people will judge you regardless of how you look. Surprise!
Saying “leave something to the imagination” means being covered up in a way that people would be forced to imagine you with less clothes. A good example of “leaving nothing to the imagination” is Jessica rabbit.
she has a hint of Jennifer Lopez (appearance not the negativity about her)
The way we choose to dress ourselves is how we choose to be seen in society. There is good and bad for every type of dress, and it's up to you what sort of appearance and reputation you want to build for yourself, and that's what should determine what we decide to wear.
I like when people cover up, wear a cool shirt with glasses and a cap, running shoes will fit too. Just don't show off cleavage, you'll get lots of attention, even if you have nipples.
Double Standards In The Workplace
This is why I like the medical field. Everyone dresses the same
Yes, in pastel scrubs, comfy tennis shoes, and loose white robes.

Idk, if I dont add a f**k tonne of smilies ppl think I'm being rude or depressive 🤷🏻♀️
No.... just no.
I can see everything else on the list, but this.
If anything, it's the other way around. I write smileys to my friends all the time, and it's no big deal. But all hell breaks loose if I send even one smiley to a girl. Then it immediately means that I'm into her and at worst, I just wanna f**k her.
So f**k, No! This comic should have looked this way: double-standards.jpg
Yesss! Males can express emotion and it's a Great Thing! Let's do it!
I never smile so it creeps men and women out when I smile.https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/onepunchman/images/d/db/Sonicsmile.png/revision/latest?cb=20151129183732
Double Standards In Relationships
I hate it when people are like " Looks likes someones on there period." it's so annoying
just say "i started my day by waking up in a pool of my own blood, is that how you'd like me to end yours" ( i found this on Tumblr it's not mine own comeback but still useful )

women like that are the ones who make people think wrong about feminism. And, because many people are soooo closed minded, they think every single woman who wants equity are like that.
Tbh, when I first got on boredpanda, thats what I thought about feminists. I thought that they were all crazy women in blamed men for their problems. However, I met a lot of true feminists who respected both genders for their individual strengths and struggles. That rewrote 'feminism' for me :) I dont think complaining on social media will help stop gender stereotypes, but just simply educating eachother with patients and love. Thanks sunnyrei!

It's not right to kill people for infidelity. Just divorce them and keep the dog
My ex cheated on me and got upset with me because I didn’t want to stay in a relationship with him… long story short he keyed my car. 😒 explain the logic.
Double Standards
Ogling secondary sex characteristics are more similar... why don't women ogle adam's apple or broad shoulders? Same thing as men ogle boobs or hips. Genitalia is not same as secondary sex characteristics. We only punish women for showing too much of those...

Where is the d**k? He is showing his pubes.
Load More Replies...I thought the point is that when you dress in a manner to specifically draw attention to something, it's a bit rich to be offended when you get the attention you were looking for whether it be for an ample cleavage or your pubic area.
Assuming that all large busted women want it is where I'm irritated... I have rather large boobs and I like the fashion of some clothes that
Load More Replies...Technically woman breasts were created to feed babies, so nothing really sexual about this, while man's genitals were created to make babies, so, that's not really the same :p
Sex is not the only thing that's the matter here. It's that your pee organs should stay covered for the sake of personal and public hygene. But breasts, well, you don't pee or poo with your breasts....
Load More Replies...I'm just imagining a husky, hairy guy wearing a deep V-neck shirt in an office environment yelling "HEY! My eyes are up here!"
My breast are not sexual, they are for breast feeding. There is a huge difference between breast and a penis. Also, women with large breast have a pretty hard time finding clothing that doesn't overexpose their chest. The only way this comic would be making a point is if women went around with their damn pants open! Screw this one.
Wear what you want, but be sensitive. As hard as you think it is to find modest clothing, it's harder still for people to control where their eyes are drawn.
Load More Replies...Damn breasts are not only for feeding something... They are feminine and so yes also sexual.. I'm starting to think I'm surrounding by breeding chickens 😱 lady's where is your pride?! Your not cows!!! 😡
Lack of Adam's apple is also feminine. Must we therefore cover our necks? Lack of facial hair is also feminine. Must we therefore cover our faces?
Load More Replies...For everyone commenting "This isn't the same", well, here IS the same: Last summer it was really hot, so one day I (a guy) decided to wear a tummy T-shirt. People freaked the f**k out. The fact that a male belly-button had entered the cafeteria was the main topic of half the peoples discussions for the rest of the day. Of course, as an upstanding member of society, I tried to do the right thing. I wore shirts like that for the following three weeks or so. But that's another story. So here you go: This IS the same.
Gender Equality
No. Any statistics on the subject will show that women do not get paid equally for the same job, with the same qualifications and experience.
You don't get what this one is about. It is not about the fact, that wage inequality is still a problem in way too many parts of the world, it's about the women who don't understand or don't care about gender equality and actively SABOTAGE it because of that. Women like that don't want equality, but for women to be better than men. That is the exact opposite of equality, no matter if done by men or women. In the situation the comic depicts, the woman actually doesn't deserve as much pay as she wants, but doesn't even hear the argument because of her extreme feeling of entitlement. The problem posed by these people (from ALL genders) is just as big as the problem of actual inequality.
Load More Replies...Boom. Truth. How about the double standard that men still must be the bread winner in most homes.
This one doesn't even make sense. No actual feminists say they want equality by being paid more than a man with an equivalent position. An anyone who demands the other person pay is a douche with bad manners, no matter what their gender.
To be honest, any man insisting he pay always made me extremely uncomfortable. If I can't afford to pay for my meal, I don't go out to eat.
How would you feel when you pass a bridge, ride a boat, get a medical scan or whatever, knowing is is designed/operated by a woman - a woman who was not employed there because she was qualified or had skills or experience, but simply because your government thinks more women have to be employed in engineering and decision-making jobs to promote equality? This is worse than coruption or bosses who prefer to promote their relatives, because it is enforced by law.
I'm all for equality with in the work place. But is it just me and this one makes the woman seem like a b**** which slightly undermines the point??
this is just a karen really, not a double standard. maybe the double standard is that women can get away with saying this stuff. correct me if im wrong
In the wild the males all have some way of impressing the females whether it's through looks or bringing her gifts of food to show they are good providers. On some level this is still an instictive behavior.
Another double standard: just saw a news article about a female teacher that had sex with 4 of her students. Alot of comments on this are: "Boy, wish I had a teacher like that in school", "nicely done guys", ... Yet, if it had said "male teacher has sex with students" the comments would've been "omg, pedophile/perv", "castrate him", ... Both are just wrong and bad...-_-
Another double standard was in the news recently of Michelle Carter who convinced her 18 year old boyfriend to commit suicide in a quest for sympathetic attention from friends, family and the general public, face jail time. Her texts to him were exposed and she was facing a maximum of 20 years. But it was dropped to only 2 1/2 years, 15 months jail 15 months probation. You can find the transcript of the messages online. The sickest thing is not just what she was saying to the kid, but the fact she remained in a phone call to listen to him die. When it comes to the justice system, men have it far worse by a long shot. Therefore, I believed she should have served a much much higher sentence.

Disagree wtih number 8. Fathers are told: oh are you babysitting today? or stuff like"you must be giving mom a day off."
And most likely if she's saying something like; "Daddy painted your nails, how cute" she's thinking something completely different like; "you're and utter moron and I'm quietly laughing at you while I feel sorry for your wife and daughter".
Load More Replies...The comic book ones are wrong. Male characters are shown in positions of power, women are drawn to be sexy. That much has been proven & all the "comic book double standard" cartoons ignored that.
Well to be fair, Supergirl also has a cape and wears her undies on the outside just like Superman.

That comparison is subjective and what you're doing is generalizing. There are male gold-diggers and there are successful younger women who are self-sufficient with no daddy issues.
Load More Replies...I only wish whoever compiled this knew what double standard meant. Many of these are just examples of different problems in different situations. Eg: skimpy armor on women is a double standard between men and women based only on gender. BUT Skinny woman with burger VS chubby woman with burger are different situations. Yes, as crazy as it sounds your physical shape relates to physical condition and what you can handle. Skinny guy can't lift car but Dwayne Johnson probably can, it's not double standard to notice that. Woman without child vs mother, 2 different arguments in 2 different situations. The lie of omission there is not accounting for the fact that there are also different people making the arguments.
The point of woman with vs without child is that women get judged and shamed no matter which choice they make, by strangers who know nothing about what factors went into that decision. You have no right to judge someone for choosing to be a parent or not. Just as the woman's doctor is the only person who should be telling her what to eat or not eat.

These are great, but #27 I think is straight out of Gamergate manuals. There's no need to bash overweight people regardless of gender.
Actually, as an addendum, several of those are Gamergate material, pages 4-5. Sorry, no, wages equality issues exist, and they're not just female hysterics.
