While awaiting execution, Marie Antoinette’s close friend, Marie-Thérèse Louise de Savoie-Carignan, Princess of Lamballe, was arrested and put on trial during the French Revolution. She was offered mercy if she would publicly support the revolutionary ideals and denounce the King and Queen.
