World’s First ‘Phodographer’ Dog Uses Heart Rate Monitor That Snaps Pics When He Gets Excited

Sure, professional photographers take a lot of photos of adorable dogs, but did anyone ever ask dogs what they want to take pictures of? With this new “Heartography” heart monitor and photo camera system, Nikon aims to let dogs show their owners what excites and interests them by snapping a photo from their point of view every time their heart rate goes up.

The heart rate monitor can be worn on a strap around the dog’s neck. The camera is worn on the dog’s chest with the help of a harness, and the two communicate with Bluetooth. When the happy dog’s heartrate goes up – which can be when he’s excited – the camera snaps a picture! It’s not yet clear if this cool photo system will be available for sale.

The first “phodographer” to take his interesting photos with Nikon’s system was a dog name Grizzler, who stars in their promotional video. Take a look at these incredible dog photos!

Go to 0:56, You can see the reflection of the camera man taking the picture instead of the dog below the left light indicator of the car with the trunk open. Fake advert?

That dog camera definitely did not take those shots. They are way too clean and focused

You mean you don't think the dog took the pic of itself from behind with the chest camera?? =) There are some test shots in there as well. Yeah it's advertising for Nikon Coolpix so if they cleaned up photos or retook shots of the cat it's still a great concept. =D

How fake is this!!! The camera hangs with its lens directed at the dog's chin or with the dog's fur covering the camera most of the time! Boo!

Have none of you heard of image stabilization? Look at the 'Dog mount' for gopro cameras - they work on exactly the same principle and the videos are clear enough to take stills from :) Don't need to hate on every fun new idea that comes out, its obviously not intended for use with an SLR ... XD

The voiceover to the dog is really stupid and makes the whole video really awkward to watch. Its actually entirely unnecessary to give the dog a wierd fake voice.

ho own's the copyright? How did the dog give permission to display his images? Technically any image produced by this dog is public domain since, by law, only humans can produce copyrightable images. Where can I find the dog's images so that I can put them on t-shirts for sale?

Amazingly shallow depth-of-field in one of the shots - outdoors in good light, too. An automatic Coolpix would stop right down. But don't underestimate this phodographer! He's opened up to full aperture and nailed the focus. Which gives me paws for thought ...

If you know Border Collies, you know that when they get excited about anything, they stop stock-still and give the exciting thing the "old collie eye". So, yes, i think they picked a perfect breed to take pictures. Border Collies stop when they are excited.

If this was genuine, 80% of photos would consist of other dogs' butts and of poles and corners marked with urine! :)
