Kids Wanted A Dog So Their Dad Made Them Sign This Super Detailed Family Dog Contract

Dogs are awesome, which is why many kids are eager to get one. But a dog requires a lot of responsibility, and many of those same kids aren’t so eager to fulfill the many duties that come with owning one. Which is why this dad decided to draw up a hilariously detailed contract outlining the various criteria that his kids would have to adhere to before he’d let them get a “three year old white fluffy mutt” named Kershaw.

“We can get a dog if everyone agrees to all of the following terms,” begins the document written up by dad and Redditor rjohnstone13. The contract then goes on to list 13 terms ranging from the weight and size of the dog to the length of its nails and the type of food it eats. There’s also various references to poop. Obviously. Read on to see the full contract.

If I were his wife I would divorce and get the dog I want. If I were his kids, I would ask my mom to divorce him and get the dog I want. This man is just an a*s.

The parents sound like pricks. I hope the kids get them back when they're in a nursing home.

How it cruel? The dad specifically will not tolerate with the dog but he's being funny with the letter.

I wonder how old the children are. If all of them are not at least, say, 14, this would be a very naive, if not irresponsible thing. I am torred between laughing at the irony about several dog-owner misconducts and the seeming carelessness. For example, shedding might come from a medical condition and special food might be needed to counter it...

Based on their signatures, I'd guess Amy is the oldest (or possible "the mom"), followed by Samantha, Jessica, and finally Casey. Amy looks definitively old enough to understand the implications of having a dog. Just my 2 cents...

Dad you're sucking the life out of the fun of having a dog!! Ease up a little!! Besides, you'll save money when the kids need therapy... they can talk to the dog instead of a therapist!!

I thought it was going to follow with a picture of dad and dog as best buddies and the contract cancelled due to unforeseen dog cuteness. Instead it was just a selfish dad laying down the law.

9 is so wrong, first of all no responsibility for the dog and unrestricted veto over the name? 10 is messed up I mean you could still get him that but still other kinds are healthier, 11 violates free speech (I'd call him a cousin, or grandchild) and dogs are family, 12 is wrong on so many levels dogs make Christmas cards better. I would never marry someone who would have those rules over a dog.

Dad must have been raised in Soviet Russia! In my house it was my mother who would've done this; my Dad would have let me have a pony in the house. And happily refers to himself as my dog's grandpa, posing for pictures with the adorable thing even when he normally avoids the camera. IMG_0019-5...5d3183.jpg IMG_0019-579f6ed5d3183.jpg

What is the punishment for violation? No contract is complete without specifying violation terms!
