Actually, in the first known version of the tale of Sleeping Beauty, she isn't waken up by a kiss. A king finds her, rapes her in her sleep, impregnates her, and she gives birth to two children, whilst still asleep. One of them sucks on her finger and so the spike that had kept her asleep falls out. As per the photo, I'm fairly sure that it's not meant to sexualise Aurora, I suppose it's trying to contrast the ideal world of a fairy tale and the real dangers facing a young woman. I don't see how that's not good for raising awareness but each to their own I guess :)

are disney princeses for kids? you really think fairy tales made by disney are for kids?? because all are practically love storys that involve romance since when kids care about romance?? since when a girl of 6-10 care about romance? when studio gibli founder hayao miyazaki create spirited away he said he read many girl magazines for girls and all just talk about romance and he dint want to make a movie about romance like Disney movies so he then interview differen age girls to know what they want , what their interest was and he found out romance was not even a thing underage girl think about , they think about school , friends and parents and that is why his movie was not move toward romance, later on american fans had sexualize the characters , disney movies are an updated not near reality story's made towards the woman of the 50's, girls were educated to just be come mothers and that is why people make fun of them. when something involves romance , sex be come a subject attached .

Since you cannot grasp what's going on, I'll explain: even innocent princesses can experience trauma so do not feel ashamed, alone, or keep your mouth shut. Adults can handle this s**t. I'M certainly not showing this to kids...are YOU? If so, stop! These aren't meant for children! They aren't in any Disney movies or plastered all over Disneyland.They're not displayed in schools, day cares or school buses.We don't need to tell the kids about them! And this whole "debased" thing: Are people reduced in value if they've been raped, beaten, exposed to pollutants, or have a disease? No? Then the photos don't debase. Yes? Then I have no idea what to do with you. Please stop sending the message that exposing the ugliness of rape sexualizes the victim. Rape is violence, not sex. Also, why would you have children watch Disney princesses as a means of escape? Maybe try physically removing the child from whatever situation is causing these "horrors of life" they desperately need escape from.

well in original tale this particular princess was raped by prince before waking up. and that was freakin children's fairy tale. nothing sensational here

Speaking as a Disney fanatic who LOVES the princess movies and has lithographs and dolls of them all over her office... I am also an artist and feminist, and I think that this series is a very valuable one. Obviously I'm not going to show it to my 9yo daughter. But though I love escaping from reality, I will most certainly be teaching her about how to protect herself from these very things, and if there's ever a situation where she can't, to stand up for herself afterwards. These issues are so prevalent today that they need to be strongly addressed, and this is a very powerful way to do just that. To realize that young women's lives aren't all flowers and sunshine.

Just pretend this doesn't exist? That's what we do already. Not helping much, is it? Escape into fantasy instead of dealing with things? Yeah, great advice. Teach little girls that Disney princess lives will be theirs? No. No more lying to girls and young women.

You didn't have to click on this post in the first place if it disturbed you so much. The description was clearly put up. And the artist herself said the whole point was to make people look beyond their comfort zones, i.e. their escapist fantasies.

your opinion is based on a rather profound lack of awareness - both of the dangers that 'children' face, and of the purpose of fairy tales, which were meant to warn children of dangers we modern folk are all too willing to sweep under the rug, and refuse to speak about even symbolically.

In rst story she was rape while being a sleep but the change up the story to keep it clean for kids now this days I think fairy tales back most have been for adults its the reasreasl story's where nuts

you do realize a bunch of disney princes stories are ADAPTED by disney, not created by them. the real version are WAY darker.

Peta, most of the adults that are creating images like this grew up with Disney Princesses. It's a solemn realization and acknowledgement of the reality of life and how often our Disney Princess view on the world (hyper-optimism, true love, and happy endings) masks the ugly truth.

I don't think that this photo shoot was in any way meant for kids, and I agree - there is a lot of (ab)use of Disney characters in campaigns, some worthy and some unworthy of our attention. However, I would make a case in defence of this series of photos. They portray issues with which we should concern ourselves as a society, I hope you agree. It is rather well thought through (Elsa was indeed depressed and possibly suicidal as a character, Aurora was raped in the original fairy tale, Ariel's connection with pollution was particularly inventive). From purely an art perspective, the fact these images evoked such a response in you means that they are doing their job. In the west, art has, since the 19th century, been seen as a vessel of emotions. If it can make you feel anything, good!

Right, more interesting would have gone the other way: targets as having inner endowment.
