Most scholarships are need (and merit) based, but yes some are solely merit based. It's a fair thing to question. Schools like to attract top talent. Yes, in academics, but especially in athletics. Should schools be allowed to give scholarships to a star basketball player that comes from a wealthy family?

Love how the maga-types always want to focus on the minority who are actually getting some benefit at any given time, rather then the majority who can sleep easy knowing that if they ever find themselves in that position they'll be OK too. Absolute cringe. I might sometimes get a couple of francs when guests don't have the correct change for the tourist tax (I collect on departure to correctly calculate actual nights stayed) but would find it demeaning if it were normal and expected. Same when working as a ski instructor, I'll gladly let you buy me a beer or lunch, nice gesture, but I'm only doing it for the craic anyway, I don't need your money.
