I'm old enough to remember "kanelbulle". We used it in the late 90's and early 00's. I haven't heard it in a long time now. Also we say "trunk a", there's no elephant in there. (just to clarify)

I live in the USA and never knew it to be anything other than "at". Then again, I've never used Twitter or Instagram or anything that regularly uses the symbol other than e-mail.
