You don't know that. There's hundreds of reasons I cat would need to be bathed, most medical based. I had a rescue who, after having rods n screws put in her back to fix her spine, couldn't bend enough to clean herself. If they get into wet paint or motor oil, you'd be a fool to allow your cat to clean it off themselves.
