Woman Captures London’s Most Beautiful Front Doors And They Look Straight Out Of A Wes Anderson Movie
Photographer Bella Foxwell has been capturing the beauty of London that a lot of people simply walk past. Doors. Her Instagram page, appropriately titled The Doors of London, features a rainbow of facades that are so quirky, they look like props from a Wes Anderson movie.
"I started this account about two-and-a-half years ago as a challenge," Foxwell wrote. "I'd spent the previous year building the accounts of big consumer brands and wanted to see if I could practice what I preached for myself. Since I was already obsessed with doors, it felt like a natural fit as my 'niche.'"
Doors fascinate Bella for a couple of reasons. "It's partly that I admire people who put so much pride into their front door, particularly those that are very daring, with a strong shade of paint or extravagant door knocker," Bella told Bored Panda."And it's partly that doors are very symbolic. Whether it's because they represent new opportunities, or because they remind of home. There's something special about them."
Unless there isn't. "Over time I've come to learn what engages people and what doesn't, and unsurprisingly the brighter, more colorful doors framed by foliage tend to perform better. That's a long-winded way of saying that unless a front door has something unique about it - like my front door, which is very uninspiring, I will give it miss."
From the streets of Notting Hill to the lively district of Brixton and beyond, Foxwell's growing collection has already earned her over 38K followers and it will surely inject you with a healthy dose of house envy as well. "I usually do a little research into different locations first, and then head there with my phone to have a wander and see what I can find," she said. "The best feeling is when you stumble across a street full of gorgeous doors that you never knew existed. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's very exciting." It's gorgeous. But my second thought is, 'Is it real?' because wisteria doesn't grow like that, at least, not out of bicycle baskets. Wisteria is a very ugly vine when it's not in bloom, and it only blooms 10-14 days out of the year, in the spring. Either way, this front porch is still beautiful!
I agree completely. I've seen wisteria vines trained to grow over frames to form a giant tunnel (in Japan, I think) but this picture would have had to be taken on the absolute perfect peak day of blossoming. It's beautiful but seems too perfect to be real.
Load More Replies...I love the flower idea, all is very colorful, so inviting I would feel welcome !!!
Probably an honest one....... and one a lot of us are thinking!
Load More Replies...And it has been there a very very long time. Look at how thick the vine is and how it has traveled along the ground there. Wow!
Load More Replies...Another beautiful scene! Wonder how far that Wisteria goes. Does it have a scent?
I once accidentally cut through a customers Wisteria like that one.
It has been many years since I heard it, but I found it: Wisteria - Dan Fogelberg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GtBjND0dE4
there's something magical about this one with the arched gateway covered in greenery and then that lovely hue on the door that - even though it's set back - calls out to you and makes your heart beat with excitement.
M. Maria says it's fuschia, I think it's plum. Anyways it's a beautiful shade of purple, and I love purple.
The blue is simply stunning, it must be a bit tricky painting the wall
No trickier than painting it another color such as- doing it BEFORE trellis framing is in place, and plants a blooming.
Load More Replies...the flowers set against that beautiful ombre shade coupled with the immaculate creme door and window casings makes this both stunning and surreal.
Are you looking at this on a very small screen? It's beautiful, granted, but that front door is filthy and far from immaculate.
Load More Replies...Wisteria doesn't bloom for very long. The rest of the time you have bare branches.
Just moved to NC from Colorado..can't wait to plant this!! Gorgeous!!
The light fixtures fit the undertones of the color.
Load More Replies...Anyone else notice the crooked window on the right side...? Still quite pretty..love the exposed brick..it lends plenty of character...
i wish it didn't bother me that the shutter on the right isn't straight.....
reminds me of the humans from romeo and juliet the animation movie
Or maybe the flowerbox on the right was grown with flowers...:)
Load More Replies...That's funny, I NEVER use the world "lovely" but that was the first word that popped into my head when I saw this one.
Load More Replies...Having been to England, I can vouch for this. Most pubs have flowers outside like this. It's amazing and gorgeous.
Having masses of flowers outside of homes, pubs and hanging from lamposts etc is a big thing in Britain. Competitions across the country are held every year for 'Britain in Bloom' with entries from villages, towns and cities. I live near a small market town that won it a few years back - it's a lovely idea.
Load More Replies...The loveliest of doorways invites you into one of the nicest local places to eat. Great food and all really aesthetically perfect. Why don’t more cafes do this?
This is indeed the entrance to one's own Capitol or - in the best of cases - one's own beloved place on Earth.
Don't know why but a red door would look so much better in this picture! ♥
Notice how the pattern mirrors the walkway tiles! Very creative touch.
Load More Replies...Oh I love this! I would get a dose of happy every time I came home to this.
I could kill for stained glass windows like here ! Imagine the view inside as the sun shines straight in....
These color schemes with all of the old bricks and tiles and stained glass.....it's just so dreamy!! 😍
The windows are magnificent and the tiling on the entry way is also quite extravagant.
hydrangea & a well-manicured hedge complement a classic black and white tiled walkway and a door featuring a nice pop of colour and leaded glass windows that add pattern and texture.
I would like to see the residents of these houses too.. Probably in the foreground..
with all that moss on the steps, it'd also be a nice place for a fall
Load More Replies...Steps could use a good power wash, other wise it is a lovely scene.
Clean the old fashioned way unless you want to damage the steps even more.
Load More Replies...Imagine someone greeting you on this porch with fresh flowers :)
Load More Replies...I think greenery here would distract from the beauty of the entranceway itself.

Wow these pale pink roses make me so happy. I'm sure the interiors of some of these places are just as interesting.
simple but elegant. black and white showcases the bold paint color on the door, the unique leaded glass and a small arrangement of potted flowers that add some sweetness and warmth to this stylish entryway.
Gorgeous. The windows looks very unique until you see it's a screen behind with the pattern.
Anything like that is supposed to be easy to remove on the inside for that very reason.
Load More Replies...the colours of the flowers, lamp and door complete eachother and gives is a sunny feeling.
Very solemn elegance - would make a great door to a funeral parlour... :)
Lol, looks like it's Christmastime on the right and Spring on the left.
Load More Replies...This is like one of those brain teaser drawings: "Which one is bigger/farther away?"
Uh ah...they should have agreed on colors....different, perhaps, but this is unsettling to me.
Some people enjoy a difference or variety !!!
Load More Replies...The windows in these older building are so lovely but there are no screens for them. And you don't really get use to having every bug flying by come in for a visit.
Load More Replies...The year before we moved from Seattle, I decided I was sick of our dull back door so painted it hot pink! It went nicely with the blue house but the family thought I'd finally flipped! No, just tired of dull.
Nice & simple although a little too messy owing to watering pot. Move it please ! LOL
I think the watering pot gives it character, like people actually live here and it's not just a door!
Load More Replies...Not all magnolias are evergreen. Northern Indiana magnolias are much different than Mississippi magnolias. :-)
Load More Replies...Lovely window seat to read a book, with a beloved pet & a hot drink or glass of wine.
The window seat, My grandparents house used to have one (longtime before I was born).
The color just pops and the light gives it a dreamy subtle ombre effect!!
Lol..that feeling when you have to sleep or at least learn for test but instead I'm looking at theese photos :-)
What I value most is safety and it makes me feel good to see the railing at least on one side LOL
There's also one on the other side if you look closely (:
Load More Replies...Does anyone know what this place is? Looks like a hotel? Pardon, Santa's workshop :D
The stuff that nightmares are made of. Just too overwhelming. Lovely, but too too much.
The passion flower extending a tendril of friendship & natural kinship.
Such a narrow door. You'd have to sidle in unless you wanted to release the floor locks on the other side.
The dead black branches have almost a Victorian mourning lace feel...stunning nature tapestry
The light through the window above the door, makes the door even more stand out. It gives the whole picture a bit of a Halloween feel (maybe because of those branches).
Apart from the one tree being taller, I love the symmetry of this 😍
It is because the doors are so heavy, you need to pull them shut.
Load More Replies...I'm glad someone else saw it. I thought I was seeing things.
Load More Replies...The tiny person is part of a boot scraper which were a regular part of older houses.
Love the bright yellow door, but wouldn’t have painted the windows the same color.
I didn't even notice it! Thanks for pointing it out.
Load More Replies...Is this the same door as in picture #24? The housenumber (in the pear) is the same, as is the wall (and colour), they've just painted the door.
The windows on top appear to be a reflection from across the street
I know I'm probably going to sound really dense and dumb, but what is that door-k**b-y thing in the middle of the door?
It is, however there could be a reason !!!
Load More Replies...One is taller than the other. That messes with my OCD. Still pretty.
I can cope with the height difference, but the colors could have been discussed and collaborated on. Shades, hues are too different so it's jarring.
Load More Replies...They are actually the same measure. Just the left one is higher than the one on the right. Must be built up an incline. Look at the bottom of each to see what I mean.
The one on the left is one course of bricks higher, therefore it is obviously on a hill.
Love this project, but I wouldn't call most of them Wes-Anderson-esque. Wes Anderson is more simple silhouettes and (muted) primary colors. Awesome photos, though!
I will be visiting London for the first time this Christmas. I am so excited to see all the beautiful architecture. Maybe I will write my first BoredPanda article about it with pics. :)
This is why the spring is my favorite time to visit family in the UK.
