It's fascinating how most of us are somewhat acclimated to the fact that there are some terrible people out there, but when it comes to famous personalities, whether that would be talk show hosts or full-on Hollywood actors, our judgement gets a little clouded. Who can blame us – it's hard to imagine celebrities living a morally incorrect life when their life seems to be so flawless. We're used to seeing them on big screens, where no mistakes are allowed, so we automatically assume they could do no wrong.
What doesn't help is their ability to have any potential scandal go away. Odd things they might've done get proclaimed as rumors, and the fans continue praising their favorites for their endless talent.
However, this Reddit user decided to dive into the celebrity drama world and asked fellow users to reveal why they've happened to lose all their respect for a well-known personality. The post received almost 30K upvotes and over 24K comments worth of names.

Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Elisabeth Moss, Kirstie Alley...the list goes on. The late Isaac Hayes famously left his role as Chef on Southpark after the Scientology church made him after Southpark ridiculed Scientology. This one I disagree with. It seems odd to dump on someone for their choice of partner - I haven’t heard anything negative about him from any of his past girlfriends, so why should one "lose all respect for him" because of his relationships? Regarding his so-called hypocrisy on the climate change front: I don’t get why so many people expect anyone who points out that we have to fight climate change to basically live in a barrel wearing nothing but sack cloth. At least he is doing something and trying to create awareness - it’s way more than I can do with the means I have. Sure, I wish he’d have a more modest lifestyle, but I still absolutely respect him as a person and as an actor.

She had a body double for a film they were both in. She lost a bunch of weight before filming and became really opinionated about having somebody who accurately represented her idea of her body. She finally settled on somebody (this is usually the role of the casting crew based on your height and weight but she insisted she had final say). The body double showed up on set and Rebel decided the woman had put on weight between casting and filming. She grabbed the poor woman’s hips and stomach on the set and yelled at the casting crew for bringing “a hippopotamus on set” to represent her.

So... a secondhand experience is fact now? Hmmm I've met her three times and she's always been friendly, approachable, and professional. This behaviour doesn’t just apply to celebrities. I had 2 friends (had because one got told to fk off) who lost a lot of weight. My best friend had gastric sleeve surgery as she is a single mother and was told she had to lose weight or she wouldn’t make it 5 years. Her endocrinologist had exhausted every avenue with a patient who was a healthy eater her whole life but with her med conditions weight gain is a given. She had the surgery, lost the weight, had the excess skin surgery and never did she make any reference to her image and the only photos I saw were when she was worried about something healing wise. The other friend did the same and OMG! She turned into a vain nasty cow that everyone in her life nearly dumped her. The nasty comments about lifelong freinds with medical conditions on their weight ect drove most of us away. One did it for her health and her child and the other did it for vanity. I had a friend who went through that too. Despite her weight she always quite vain, but when she had the surgery she became so much worse. Myself and my other friends ended up dropping her because she just focused on herself and didn't want to hear anything about us. All she really cared about was posting selfies with 'inspirational' quotes and going out to bars with other friends.

I don't know anything about Drake. But he obviously busted his ass working to become who he is and have what he does. Anyone who becomes a celebrity has, unless of course they were born into it. But many got there themselves. How can you, and others, hate on someone simply because they have more than you and you simply haven't worked to achieve what they have? It isn't some rich person's fault your husband got cancer, yet you're acting like they personally slighted him and you. That's so weird. I also find it weird people feel after someone works to become successful people think they should take what their hard work and dedication got them and distribute it to those who don't put in the work. I don’t like this negative kind of BP posts, that wants us to feel morally superior to others. We’re just as bad, stupid and hypocrite as the average celebrity, but since we’re not rich or famous, the impact of our deeds is a lot smaller.

I think you're right when people start crowding around talking s**t for superficial reasons. But the Polanski support? I didn't know that and I'm glad I do now. And it's clear very few people have bothered looking up Mark Wahlberg's history.

I felt like that with one of these. He was sort of bad, but he's improved, and become a good person for the most part. I think (I might be wrong, but) that most of the reason is his weight

One of the worst thing we have done as a society is to raise celebrities up so high, they are beyond honesty, decency and the law, and we keep them up there, making them rich and famous, while they contribute nothing of value to the world.

Well people DO go watch their movies and listen to their music. It's the same with sports stars. If a person really has a gripe about a particular celeb then their duty is to stop supporting them. As long as they keep appearing in films/songs/matches and people keep going to see/listen/watch, well... the celeb retains their status.

You seem to have forgotten that everyone has a past, everyone changes, sometimes they even learn from their mistakes, stop being so judgemental of people you’ve never met, you don’t know 99% of the story and you only know what some half-assed tabloid has decided to print. Yes have an opinion but don’t throw someone under a bus and perpetuate the hate, it’s unhealthy for you and them. No winners here.

I can't understand the cult of celebrity. Why do people get fixated on these people? OK, they are good at acting or whatever, but they are well rewarded for their talent. Some haven't even got talent, just a good agent and an overinflated ego. Then they treat the people who enabled them to get rich like dirt? Honestly, stop flattering them with attention. There's a lot more deserving people out there. celebrities may have a lot of money in the bank but unless they contribute something worthwhile to society they aren't "worth" any nore than the rest of us.

It's natural for people to get attached to those that make them feel a certain way. It's like following a song, character or perosna off screen. I think there should be some kind of education about this though because it can be dangerous.

I think the fame extrapolates the scumbagness in someone...its not hard to be a decent person and keep being it. Keanu Reeves, Denzel and lots others are so much decent but theres a certain entitled group of assholes who feel like the world owes them

Jim Carrey. Every televangelist. Cosby. Zuckerberg. Bezos. Ugh. Never much for celebrities because Dad was fairly well known in his time and often said stars are just regular people with a talent. Celebrities rely on publicity instead of talent.

I certainly agree especially about Cosby. His troubles only started when a couple of women had the guts to report him. I think this has been going on for a very long time! I know this will get me in deep s**t but could his son have been murdered by an irate person in retaliation for one of his escapades?
