Russian Body Artist Gives His Hairless Cat Four Tattoos, And People Are Not OK With It
A Russian tattoo fanatic dosed his hairless Sphynx cat named Demon up with pain killers to tattoo a series of ‘gangster’ tattoos on him, and now animal rights activists are shaming him.
“Of course I feel pity for doing it to him. It’s not like he wanted to do it himself. He has a different skin, so tattoos are applied differently,” Aleksandr said. “I hope it is not too bad for him, it is not his first tattoo. Usually, he feels fine and recovers from the anesthesia pretty fast.” The tattoos feature a prison tower, playing cards and a cigarette – all things that are typically worn by criminals in Russia.
Not only are many people shaming the body artist for tattooing his cat, but so is Elizabeth Skorynin – the head of an animal rehabilitation center. She said that Sphynx’ have very sensitive skin and any little injuries cause them pain and discomfort. Not to mention, that anesthesia is bad for Sphynx’ and the survival rate is 50%, which makes this whole case a question of abuse. However, Aleksandr Purtov, a local tattooist, defended the whole cat tattooing case saying that it was normal many years ago for farmers to tattoo their animals, therefore there is no reason for it to be unethical now.

This is sickening. It's nothing short of animal cruelty. Animals are living, breathing creatures, not 'things'. Every time this asshat did this, he could have killed the cat. And as someone said, sphinx cats have really sensitive skin. Those tattoos probably cause it a great deal of pain. The poor cat should be taken away from this clown, and he shouldn't be allowed to own animals again.

Okay, this guy should not own ANY animals. If you've never had a tattoo, let me tell you first hand, it f*cking HURTS! Not just the process of getting it, but AFTER, you are sore, you scab, you have to constantly apply a special lotion, more soreness, the scab peels. Its not a quick healing process. This sweet innocent cat may have been "asleep" when the tattoo was put on, but bet your a*s the cat felt it when he woke up. This is nothing short of abuse. Would you do this to a baby? NO, so don't do it to animals!

Police dogs, race horses, the occasional "show" animal (of various types) are tattooed. Castration is easy enough to see in most animals.

So branding a cow or a horse or putting a tattoo in a dogs ear or in a horses mouth isnt inhumane and cruel. How would you all like it if someone put a brand on your hip or a tattoo in your mouth or ear, so americans are for all this but not putting a tattoo on a cat that has been put to sleep to do the procedure. Im not defending this person but Americans have double standards. I'm sick of people doing things to animals, even if its not in a bad intention. I like tattoos, yeah, it looks cool. But a cat is neither a human who has decided to get a tattoo or a thing that couldnt get anything bad from it. I wonder if its okay for a cats skin. I know that tattoos can cause itching, also the painkiller, I think if it isnt necessary (for health) you should prevent your cat from it. To those idiots who pose false dualities, or propose random hypotheticals: stick to the FACTS. Tattooing a cat this way is needless is cruel, done solely to boost the ego of the owner. It's not some sort of tiny ID number to find a lost animal. Cats' systems are different than ours in many ways, not just the skin. This is sad. She mentioned this was a practice many many years ago. It probably stopped because they realized it was abuse and hurts the animal. Cats are very independent animals, and they don't let us know their hurting. My cat, he had bad ear issues, and he was hurting. But he acted like himself. He played, ran, ate like he always did, even snuggling with me. If I didn't take him to the vet for his normal check up, I wouldn't of known about his ears. So because your cat went back to her normal routine, doesn't mean she doesn't feel it. It's just mean and cruel. You ruined the body of a majestic cat. Their bodies are so sensitive to everything as it is. They don't have the coat to protect their body, so it doesn't have the natural oils. Gotta give them baths and lotions, than on top of that. You had to give this poor cat a tattoo? That's just sickening, and it looks terrible. Couldn't you of just given a tiny tattoo if you are sick enough to give one? Poor cat. :/

As an animal lover and a tattooed woman I can say from personal experance that tattoos stay sore for a week. An animal also can't look after a tattoo properly and would be more likely to get an infection. This is nothing more than out and out animal cruelty!

Well if its not dangerous in aspects of healt of the animal, opposing it makes no sense since you are feeding them in your home without asking them. What I am trying to say is everything you do with pets is against their free will. Castration, vaccination and such... they're not things for sure but they're not humans. Two points: First-maybe it is normal to mark livestock in the old days but I think it wasn't anything as elaborate or time consuming and painful as this job. 2nd-don't hairless cats have extremely sensitive skin? I have a tattoo and the process felt like burning and cutting. I can't even imagine what it felt like to this poor cat.

I have five Sphynx cats. I can tell you from experience how sensitive their skin is. This poor cat didn't ask for a f*****g tattoo. I have around 50 tattoos but no one forced me into it. That's what the Nazis did to the Jewish people!

I understand your point and I don't disagree that both of those procedures can be viewed as a form of cruelty themselves, but while I can't speak for declawing (personally, I find that just as objectionable), spaying and neutering do at least have a higher (positive) purpose, and some even argue they are actually beneficial for the animal in the long run (although I'm not a vet, so obviously I can't vouch for that). This cruelty, however, is simply disturbingly pointless.

No body screams animal abuse when people tat show dogs. Yes show dogs are tatted. So are rabbits. The tats look good so obviously the cat felt no pain nor did he get scared. Doesn't appear to be scarred so the artist did a good job. No infection so obviously it was properly cared for afterwards. Nope cant see the abuse here. People just want s**t to b***h about that is none of their buisness as usual.

Does the cat live a happy life? That is the only question I would ask. Pet owners are seen all over the world changing parts of their pets to suit the owner life. For example, declawing cats are far more painful to the animal. The cat is not awake and is happy then I see no problem. I understand where people are coming from that this is animal abuse, but all that really matter is that the cat is happy and that the owner loves it.

1 - is this fake ? ,,,2 - anasthetics are *dangerous* ,even with humans the dr will say aprox, there is a risk with this. ( in Australia it is a legal requirment ) what they mean is some ppl die from the anasthetic. ( not the operation ) ... 3- this "breed" of cat comes from a rare mutation , then the cats are very very inbred ( which frequently causes other health problems ) ..... 4 - fur protects cats from fighting/ playing injuries. Just lieing down on minimaly sharp things. Fur helps cats regulate their body temperature. ....... so in short i am skeptical about this entire article, / do not agree with keeping this mutation going and calling it a "breed ".

First thing, it's a Russian artist. However, I would never do this to my pet. To tattoo an animal to this extent is cruel, given they aren't able to regulate their pain like we are when we get a tattoo. Agreed this poor thing should not have had to endure this kind of experience. On the other hand, most of us put our animals through small portions of torture when we have them tattooed/ micro chipped in case something were to happen to them...

Not just the process of getting it, but AFTER, you are sore, you scab, you have to constantly apply a special lotion, more soreness, the scab peels. Its not a quick healing process. This is sad. She mentioned this was a practice many many years ago. It probably stopped because they realized it was abuse and hurts the animal. Cats are very independent animals, and they don't let us know their hurting. My cat, he had bad ear issues, and he was hurting. But he acted like himself. He played, ran, ate like he always did, even snuggling with me. If I didn't take him to the vet for his normal check up, I wouldn't of known about his ears. So because your cat went back to her normal routine, doesn't mean she doesn't feel it. It's just mean and cruel. You ruined the body of a majestic cat. Their bodies are so sensitive to everything as it is. They don't have the coat to protect their body, so it doesn't have the natural oils. Gotta give them baths and lotions, than on top of that. You had to give this poor cat a tattoo? That's just sickening, and it looks terrible. Couldn't you of just given a tiny tattoo if you are sick enough to give one? Poor cat. :/

As an animal lover and a tattooed woman I can say from personal experance that tattoos stay sore for a week. An animal also can't look after a tattoo properly and would be more likely to get an infection. This is nothing more than out and out animal cruelty!

What I am trying to say is everything you do with pets is against their free will. Castration, vaccination and such... they're not things for sure but they're not humans. Two points: First-maybe it is normal to mark livestock in the old days but I think it wasn't anything as elaborate or time consuming and painful as this job. 2nd-don't hairless cats have extremely sensitive skin? just type in tattoo on pigs and you'll find a lot of s**t happening to pigs, they say that they have a good life but how good can a life be where you wake up with a feeling of a horrendous sunburn every now and then..

Not trying to defend him, however, all the people that are saying it's cruelty. How many of you have had your cat declawed or spay/ neutered. I'm pretty sure that's painful to the animal too and not natural.

I understand your point and I don't disagree that both of those procedures can be viewed as a form of cruelty themselves, but while I can't speak for declawing (personally, I find that just as objectionable), spaying and neutering do at least have a higher (positive) purpose, and some even argue they are actually beneficial for the animal in the long run (although I'm not a vet, so obviously I can't vouch for that). This cruelty, however, is simply disturbingly pointless.

I dont see the big deal. I think its cute. No body goes bat s**t crazy screaming animal abuse when a farmer burns his cows and horses with a red hot brand. No body screams animal abuse when people tat show dogs. Yes show dogs are tatted. So are rabbits. The tats look good so obviously the cat felt no pain nor did he get scared. Doesn't appear to be scarred so the artist did a good job. No infection so obviously it was properly cared for afterwards. Nope cant see the abuse here. People just want s**t to b***h about that is none of their buisness as usual.

Does the cat live a happy life? That is the only question I would ask. Pet owners are seen all over the world changing parts of their pets to suit the owner life. For example, declawing cats are far more painful to the animal. The cat is not awake and is happy then I see no problem. I understand where people are coming from that this is animal abuse, but all that really matter is that the cat is happy and that the owner loves it.

There is nothing wrong with this :/ if you have a problem with this then you shouldn't neuter your pets, cut off their tails, declaw them or even tag them.

1 - is this fake ? ,,,2 - anasthetics are *dangerous* ,even with humans the dr will say aprox, there is a risk with this. ( in Australia it is a legal requirment ) what they mean is some ppl die from the anasthetic. ( not the operation ) ... 3- this "breed" of cat comes from a rare mutation , then the cats are very very inbred ( which frequently causes other health problems ) ..... 4 - fur protects cats from fighting/ playing injuries. Just lieing down on minimaly sharp things. Fur helps cats regulate their body temperature. ....... so in short i am skeptical about this entire article, / do not agree with keeping this mutation going and calling it a "breed ".

But it's TOTALLY cool to tattoo inside their bellies/hips/thighs/ears for Kennel Clubs and Breeding. Don't start that 'It's just a little tattoo' or 'That's for identification purposes' it's basically the same deal. It's for the pride of the human. IT's not cool either way.

First thing, it's a Russian artist. However, I would never do this to my pet. To tattoo an animal to this extent is cruel, given they aren't able to regulate their pain like we are when we get a tattoo. Agreed this poor thing should not have had to endure this kind of experience. On the other hand, most of us put our animals through small portions of torture when we have them tattooed/ micro chipped in case something were to happen to them...

Drugs could have killed the cat. And as a person with tattoos I can tell that even with anaesthesia it still is damn uncomfortable_ especially on the bones. The tattoo doesn't make the cat badass, it makes it a victim of abuse :c

Even if it would not bother the cat at all (which is doubtful), it is highly questioable to "modify" animals. Just think of cropped ears and docked tails in dogs...they are banned in more and more countries for a reason.
