Guy Shares The Conversation His Wife Had With A Potential Car Buyer And It’s The Opposite Of ‘Choosing Beggars’

Sometimes, in this crazy dog-eat-dog world, we need a reminder of the essential kindness of the human spirit. Before we were all conditioned to believe that life is a competition, that we should climb over each other in an endless, pointless race to consume more and more stuff, we used to live in communities that looked out for each other and supported those in need.

This story, told on the subreddit r/HumansBeingBros, proves that while the media likes to portray a world full of petty divisiveness and anger, with danger and outrage lurking around every corner, the ordinary person still harbors that innate compassion and goodwill towards their fellow man, and it cannot be quashed!

It started when a woman set out to ‘sell’ her car, secure in the knowledge that she had enough, and that this particular vehicle was surplus to requirements. She was insightful enough to know however that not everyone is so lucky, and what is excess for her could be essential for somebody else. So when she was contacted by a mother whose circumstances were clearly less comfortable than her own, something magical happened!

This is an amazing gesture - I wish I was in a position to do something like that. I would far rather have the satisfaction of giving something to a person who really needed it, than haggling over it's value when I didn't actually need the money.

I did too. It showed she was not looking for a handout or charity, was just having a hard time, but wanted to be fair and honest about the car. She seems sweet, glad she got the car they so desperately needed!

been there, done that! When i was still a student I recieved 2nd hand (or 3rd hand) household items I couldnt afford. I would share rides with older friends after agreeing on splitting the fuel bill, to hear afterwards to keep my money because "they were driving there anyway" etc. Grocery shopping with a friend and notice they buy a lot of stuff I use, to hand it over to me after paying! :-D Now its the other way around.... when I moved in with my boyfriend, I gave away a lot of my old stuff to a complete stranger who saw us loading in the car and wanted to buy something. I gave him everything I didnt need. Later his son told me that his dad just moved into a place of his own after living in a shelter for a while. Together they even hauled my old fridge downstairs 3 flights! Everyone happy :-D I still rather give away things because I know the difference it can make.

That’s a nice thing to do and I don’t see any problem with the guy “humble bragging,” (his words in the comments) either. I think people should brag more about their good deeds, sometimes. Put that kind of energy and ideas out there, other people pick up this kind of thing.

I love stories like this. I like helping those in need & appreciate the gesture. I had a dining room table on CL, which was almost brand new. I listed it under its value too. I had a young Hispanic couple that had recently came to our country & was making a new start here with their kids. We were talking about different places in town that might be a good place for other furniture they needed. The little girl told me she was sleeping on the floor because her mom hadnt been able to buy a bed yet. I took them into our extra bedroom & asked the little girl if she would like a bed & pointed to a daybed that i had recently refurbished. I almost cried when her eyes lit up & screamed "My own bed?". I ended up giving the young family the table set, the bed & two dressers id had stored as extras. The appreciation was worth it. I always believe in Pay It Forward.

This warms my heart more that I can even say. I only pray that one day I am in a position that I can do something like this as well. Don't get me wrong I try as often as I can to do little things to pay it forward, pay for a police officer's (and his partner's ) meal at a restaurant. One time recently I was chit chatting with a single mom while waiting in line at a Panda express. She had one of those ER long sleeve shirts and we were swapping war stories, hers the horror of drug addicts completely strung out and being combative, and me working LE and dealing with the horrors of drug addicts completely strung out lol. But in the end it was almost christmas and neither of us get the recognition or thanks we deserve, especially her being a single mom, and since I spent the majority of my children's lives as a single mom, I had my BF distract her and I paid for her and her kiddos meal. It wasn't much, but the smile on her face made me melt. Good for this woman! <3

That was wonderfully nice of you! Good for you, I hope the good karma returns to you! I just never have the guts for a nice gesture like this, I hope I will get the courage one day. The best I have managed to do so far is teaching the kids of poor families for a symbolic price. I am an ESL teacher in Europe, and speaking English is becoming the one thing every single employer requires. When I statred this profession as a teen (got my certification at 17), I was workng for a fraction of what the language schools take. Now I am starting my own language school, but I have never raised the price for my 2 single-moms and a family on minimum wages - they are teh sweetest people, and just trying to get their kids a better future. As a kid who started part-time working at 14, because I felt the need to support my mom, I can relate, and that is why I have never told them that their price is different - I don't want them to feel bad about it...

When my wife and l (married 48 yrs at the time) decided to downsize to a condo we had to decide what to do with 32 yrs of accumulation of stuff that barely fit in 2500 sq ft + basement. We decided to treat the move as a new start and get rid of most everything. We advertised everything along with pictures on a website called KIJIJI. Things went very easily even though we had long since replaced them and hadn't bothered to take them to a dump. In one instance an old well worn mattress was picked up by a lady who was so happy to have it. To her it was a luxury. She had been sleeping on a bare floor at a friend's house. Many other household items went to predominantly single mothers. That part saddens me to this day. Where are all the husbands and fathers. I am 71 years old and l do not recognize the country l grew up in. Having a good family used to be a goal for both sexes. Now it is a throw away in our society. Very sad.

This reminds me of my mom! Way back when I was small, she lost her license so couldn't use her car anymore. She found out that our ice cream truck man had a partner who had been diagnosed with aids, but the ice cream van wasn't a suitable transport. She gave them the car. At his partners funeral, he thanked my mom for making it so much easier to care for him, as they were barely able to pay for his treatments, anyway. I love you, mom!

I literally cried throughout. I've been on both ends of the stick. When I have more than whomever, I give.. I share. When I've been downtrodden, somebody somehow from somewhere...has found me, and picked me up 'to good.' << Karma, 'Paying Forward,' whatever you will. AWESOME, inspiring story`!!!

I gave away my guitars to a friend who plays with his wife all the time - more than most people watch television. I just wanted them to go to someone who would play them, and they'd been sitting in my closet ever since I had to quit because of arthritis (diagnosed at age 22 with rheumatoid). ...///... They don't have a ton of money, so a Fender Stratocaster and a custom acoustic would have been a stretch for them. The acoustic ended up going to a young lady who just got a recording contract in Nashville.

So not only have you sold out to get Google ads on the website, you are now showing Kardashian videos that can't even be paused????!!!!!!!! Shame on you, you've ruined and destroyed my viewing experience. You were the last bastion of an ad free, normal, cute, moving and touching website. Now you're just like everyone else, a website with a lack of principles and selling out for the big ad bucks.

This is so sweet and definetly shows that the amount of money you have doesn't show the size of your heart. the woman in the story, even though she was somewhat "rich" or had plenty of money, didnt have a terrible heart. she gave a car priced $1200 for free, with $500 extra! if you read throught the comments, there was a broke guy with a big ego. i say this because he got a free car from someone, a ford wagoner, yet his ego was so big, he didnt like beign seen in it so he traded the perfectly fine, good shape, working car for another car that broke down on him!? thats insane. I hope there are mroe people in this world like that woman!

I am glad to know it went off without any problems. I have experienced myself when a person does good for another, it is not always reciprocated in the same manner. We sold a car to a lady who had very little money, we lowered the price to help her out. She neglected to register the car and was in an accident 2 years later. Who do you think the DOR and law firms are coming after now....ME

Super! I'm overjoyed to see someone so willing to do this! At the same time, I'm somewhat disheartened to see Trump bashers responding. As if Trump, our first president and only politician who does not take a salary, hasn't touched anyone with kindness. Please do your research. He has financially supported numerous people over the years, for more than this amount but in keeping with his income. Of course the media won't tell you this, but if you were to look into it, you'd see he is not the demon they make him out to be. Try to find any of our millionaire congressmen and women who have touched anyone with similar acts of kindness. Please let me know if Maxine Waters or any other outspoken liberal has done anything for the "common man!" It hasn't happened.

Very sad.

Hope for humanity slightly restored.....I love to see how God blesses those in need. Message to the OP: Please don't ever let her go. She's a light in a world of shadow and darkness.

BE NICE. Smile. Give all unwanted stuff away, if it can still be used, but only clean and in working condition.

I was able to do this for one of my son’s friends. My husband had bought the car for $600 and driven it for 3 years. This kid has a single mom and just wanted to be able to get back and forth to work. If you are in the position to help someone out...just do it!

If that happened to me, I would have thought it was a scam and would just brush it off and move on. I have never gotten anything for free.

I love stories like this. Often they seem a bit braggy but this isn't like this at all. There are lots of people like this, people who give and give- only we don't get to read about it.

When I was stationed in Germany a friend gave me his car when he PCS'ed back to the states. I passed it on when I left, and so it continued. I think it was on its 6/7th owner before it finally gave out.

I think people post things like this to put it out in the universe that others should do the same thing.

The sales tax thing doesn't work in states who actually charge a tax based on the vehicles actual value instead of what's on the bill of sale.

If she wanted to give it to someone who meeded it then why did she say she couldn't hold it for a week? Rude. Makes her seem disingenuous.

This was a private transaction between two individuals, not done for everyone to stand around and say "whatta saint", "how lovely". It should have stayed private.
